And what is wrong with being able to take a cable, connect it to a computer, and having access to it as an external storage device? I surely don't need a chaperone: I'm not a child, and I own all the hardware in question.

But it's not amazing at all ....
Only ordinary, mundane or terribly useful ;)

In Australia our biggest Telco gives a bluetick to phones that they test and have better reception in rural areas. All the latest Samsungs and the last few years all have it, the last iPhone was the 8 with Qualcomm modem.
The 12 has the Qualcomm but didn't get the bluetick, doesn't give me much incentive to swap my 11 pro as i would of in a heartbeat if the 12 had it.
What do you mean by a "bluetick"?

How do you like the 12 pro camera? That's my only concern. Is it as good as 4 XL?

I’ve not tested the 12 enough since I’ve been working from home ...I prefer videos on iPhones always and expect this one to be same or better ..photos both do great with slight differences depending situations ...you can’t go wrong IMO

While the video quality is better on the iPhone, the sound is far better on the Pixel using the main cameras in these clips. It's actually pretty bad which is surprising.

I'd have to watch some other direct comparisons to see how they compare. Because in that video there's a night & day difference.

Front camera & portrait mode (to me) always look better on the Pixel compared to any phone.

I like a good front camera for taking pics in front of landmarks etc while traveling. Which is a bit ironic right now since I can't go anywhere. lol

Hopefully in 2 weeks we'll start to see if the Pro Max and it's bigger sensor makes any noticeable real world difference. Although the slower aperture might cut into any improvements. Strange decision that one.

Agree more comparisons needed.. Night and day indeed.. Tough testing stuff at these times... I'm looking forward to Max and reviews...

Wow! There is a significant difference in audio quality between the iPhone 12 and Pixel 5, with the Pixel 5's audio sounding a lot crisper and cleaner. Also, I think the video from the Pixel 5 is a lot sharper. The still images are for me kind of a toss-up.

Battery test for the day.
I haven’t used my phone much today really as been working and have picked my Fold 2 up too at points.
But it’s currently after 10:30pm and I’m on 61% with the below SoT.
Which I’m very pleased with.

If you had to keep one, would it be the iphone 12 or the Fold 2?

God. Honestly not sure i could answer that.
I’ve always got bored with iPhones very quickly, and the 12 is just another boring iPhone to me. I haven’t been excited about an iPhone since probably the XR which is when iPhones got fun again with the bold bright colours. But it still ran iOS, so I still got bored.

I like iOS, it is polished and apps run wonderfully etc, but you’re so limited. There’s also no innovation from Apple now for what feels like years. The Fold 2 is a totally different beast but I know I will not carry on running both of them as it just isn’t feasible. Well, it could be, but I don’t want to really.

The Fold 2 is honesty a way better product than I ever thought it would be. It functions great as a smartphone but gives you that really immersive large screen for things like YouTube and Kindle reading and web browsing which then just feels laboured and ‘wrong’ on a normal phone.

I also think the iPhone camera is a disappointment. There’s no change from the 11 Pro and I know I could move to a normal 12 and be happy. This is the first year I’ve bought the “pro” or more expensive iPhone model over the cheaper XR, 11 etc (although I had an 11 Pro I swapped for an 11 last year) and I don’t feel like it’s a warranted purchase. At all.

I am trying to answer your question but as you can tell, I can’t :p.
I love this new iPhone design and I like that it’s a solid, reliable phone. But Android cameras are better to my eyes (please no one chime in with ‘but video’ We all get it), I prefer more customisation and the Fold gets better the more I use it. The longer I go with it the harder it is to move away from it. Not that I’m trying to, but I bought the iPhone with a view to just have this one phone. Yet I find myself picking the Fold 2 up more often every day.
Ive waffled. I can’t answer it haha. Sorry!

Which is hard to believe considering certain reviewers have been trashing the pixel 5 for the sound quailty.

No worries. It sounds like you did answer the question. You seem way more fond of the Fold and what it offers than what the iphone offers.

Speaker, yes, this is the microphone. Completely different. Besides, while not as good as some phones, the speakers are perfectly usable.

I know this isn’t to me but i have fold 2 and will get 12 pro max and have no intention of not having both. If i had to choose to get rid of one it would still be the fold 2 as when it comes to ecosystem, apps, camera/video i still think iphone is unmatched. Fold 2 is a better spec and can do a lot more and naturally due to the folding screen there isn’t a device out there like this one. It’s the one device that i think is truely exciting. No other product for me is as exciting as what foldables are and i love what samsung are doing in this area.

the fold 2 camera is better than i expected for overall stills it is great. Only area where disappoints is the area most have mentioned and that’s skin tones and pictures of moving objects like pets. In this area the pixel and iPhones are the true kings when it comes to natural looking portraits.

I think the iphone 12 pro from the samples i have seen is the best for this but pixel is right there so much that it is a toss up in this area.

To be honest the pixel and iphone 12 are pretty much blow for blow in most areas for taking photos. When it comes to choosing which phone to go for i don’t think that would be a factor in which phone to choose between. It’s more what is more important in the other areas as most reviews i have seen shows their very little between them. iPhone is still the best for video but pixel 5 has made a big jump in video quailty this year which is good. However depends if video matters much to you as video i thought as lacking on the pixel 4 from what i saw.

Obviously i know you are talking about pixel 4xl but doesn’t seem like there is much improvement from pixel 4 to 5 image quailty like there isn’t a big difference from 11 pro to 12 pro.

pro max i fully expect to be better but if you are comparing the price points i don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Yeah but I think a lot of that us because its new and Innovative.
The Fold 2 has way more shortcomings than the iphone. That gives me pause for thought. When I want to quickly reply to a text, it's a pain in the arse. When I have only got one free hand and want to check something quickly, its cumbersome and bulky and difficult. The front screen is too narrow to be functional, apps are cut off.
YouTube can't play in a resolution past 720p when you open the app on the front screen and then unfold to bigger screen.
It has to be babied to not damage its fragile screen. I could go on.

But you open it up and its immersive and brilliant. I don't think it helps that I'm working at home and rarely leave the house these days other than to get food in. If I was in the office everyday, I know the Fold 2 would be sold. It isn't practical for my normal day to day. But this new normal where I am home all day and can unfold it and reply to texts on the big screen or have keep it on a desk all day and not have to have it in and out of a locker or pockets is easier to manage it than before.

So whilst life is like that I am definitely enjoying it more. But I don't think I'd want to be relying on the front screen like I know I would if I was living my pre Covid life which was quite different to now. I dunno. Its tricky really but I like both.

This video compares the Pixel against the regular iPhone 12 (and S20 FE) and the video sound quality is much better. I imagine the 12 Pro would be the same, so can only think the guy had a faulty mic on his.

Plus I'm much more familiar with Tom's channel, so put trust in his reviews/comparisons.

Finally was able to check out the iPhone 12 at Best Buy. Holy crap that thing is nice looking. Probably one of the best looking/feeling phones I've ever seen. Build quality is second to none. Feels like a solid piece of polished steel.

Agree with others who say they wish they could have that phone, but with Android instead of iOS.

I'm starting to feel like no device either Android or iPhone will ever reach the 11 Pro Max in terms of battery life. Standby of almost 14 hours and 0% battery lost. jailbreak makes settings look different but the stats are accurate. Anyone with a newer Android have good specs they can share? My G8 might, unfortunately, be on its last legs.
