Top is iphone 12. Bottom is Galaxy Z Fold 2...

Both night mode for 3 second point and shoot. The iPhone is... underwhelming.
Wow....would not have guessed the Fold 2 to be honest. I figured you were a Sony phone fan so took a shot in the dark :)

I always made an encrypted backup through iTunes of my current phone so when I upgraded I could just restore the back up to my new phone. Takes about 20 minutes and the new phone is exactly like my current phone.

Wireless back up and restore takes hours....
With any phone, I always start fresh. I don't like using backups in case of anything rogue, incompatibility problems etc. And I couldn't rely on Apple for backups. Lost the ability to restore a device once because it said it was encrypted when it 100% wasn't. So I sync my media direct from my pc.

I think I'll still pre order the Max, better to give it a blast than not. But I'm seriously doubting it's going to be worth (to me) £700 odd more than what my Pixel 5 will sell for.

Could get a Tab S7 plus instead. Or put it towards the Canon R5 I've got my eye on.....

Yeah its a strange one alright. Nearly every photo I have taken with the Fold vs the 12, the Fold has looked better. If a little "boosted". Sometimes that works in its favour I guess.

I never really rated the Fold 2 camera but it has grown on me. Same with the phone in general really. It is hard to watch YT and things like that on a normal phone now. :p

The bottom photo has more detail as well. Look at the hair from ear on the arm of the chair. In the bottom photo it captures more detail. Sometimes a little boosting helps a photo imho. But too much and it looks oversaturated. The bottom photo does not look over saturated at all to my eyes.

Anyone moved to iPhone 12 pro from pixel 4 XL?
Any comments?

Now there's an interesting question. I have the Pixel 4 XL a year now, and I still like it, but the mediocre battery life and dim display are frustrating. Plus the phone's too large for what it should be. A 6.3" screen with large forehead bezel, and non symmetrical bottom bezel, it just feels like a much bigger phone than it is.

Out of curiosity... which photo do you guys think is best.

Without reading ahead to spoil the details, at first glance I find the top one a bit more pleasing, though far from perfect. The color balance seems a bit more even and good detail though a bit softer than the bottom photo. Problem is that it’s focus looks like it was at the front of the dog’s nose so detail is lost further back on the dogs face and body. The bottom photo selected a better focus point so the dog’s detail and the bokeh is better, or at least, in the right spots. It does look a little over sharpened though and the color difference in the chair/couch is quite jarring. Colors look maybe a bit boosted.

My first guess was Sony on top, iPhone on bottom (due to it’s warm color tones) but on second glance, I’d guess it’s maybe a Samsung on the bottom and the top photo is either your Sony or an iPhone.

EDIT: Oh interesting, the top is the iPhone and bottom the Fold 2. I’m nothing close to an expert on photography, actually quite far from it but like I mentioned, just glancing at it, I find the top photo more appealing. But that’s mostly probably due to the color tones.

@Aneres11, which photo’s colors are closer to reality?

Both focuses were tapped on the dogs nose. :)
Both had night modes on and both shot over a 3 second exposure.

Top is iPhone and bottom is Samsung Fold 2.

Samsung photo is more pleasing to my eyes. Iphone photo is just a little bit muted and less detailed to me. The colours are not right on either. In actual fact it is somewhere between them both that is right. One has underexposed and one has overexposed.

Certainly not what I'd expect from low light on the iPhone though, which is meant to be improved in the 12.

One good thing about going port-less is that's the end to mate/de-mate cycles for connectors.

Bear in mind, I'm not trying to take sides here. In fact, my only real concern is the ability to access the phone from the computer such that one can transfer files onto or off of it. If that can be trivially done over a (wireless) network connection, I don't have a problem with that. What I would have a problem with is Apple making this process locked down and proprietary. That's one area in which, frankly, Android has historically been far superior.

And what is wrong with being able to take a cable, connect it to a computer, and having access to it as an external storage device? I surely don't need a chaperone: I'm not a child, and I own all the hardware in question.

Played around with a 12 Pro today. Due to the 60hz, ios animations, and coming from 120hz it just felt slow and jittery. I'm sure that would wear off after a few days and those coming from other 60hz phones wouldn't notice a thing.

Otherwise, screen and hardware looked great. Fully flat screen and sides were a good choice.

Yeah had no issues with the fold 2 camera. Night mode i think is very good generally. Think samsung have really stepped up their game in this area.

I hadn't realised that these screens are actually totally flat, not even that little rounding at the end. MKBHD pointed it out in detail in his review of the 12. Making me look forward even more to the 12 Pro Max as the #warOnCurves continues :p

Ha true on YouTube. Even when i get the pro max i don’t expect to watch any video on it or shows/YouTube e.t.c apart from to view something quicker. Easy to get spoilt with the bigger display.

I will say the flat edges / sides are lovely.
I really like this design. It feels like a more immersive design somehow. Not sure why though.

Do still find it annoying that there is no way to see battery percentage until you swipe down or use a widget, but there we are.
Still pleased I went with gold. I think it’s such a nice colour in this design. Most are flocking to the blue which always happens with early adopters. They often want people to know they have the new iPhone ? but I think the green looked better last year and would have looked amazing in this design.
Not saying everyone is buying blue for that reason, but a lot over in the iPhone section are and have even admitted it as such!

Will do a full battery test tomorrow as the last two days I’ve driven with the phone connected via USB which has topped it up a fair bit each time. So haven’t really had a true feel for battery still yet. Don’t imagine it’ll disappoint though.

Is it true the screen on the 12 Pro is amazing? My brother just got the phone coming from the iPhone XS and he said the display was noticeably better on the 12 Pro in comparison.

In fairness i will be buying the blue 12 pro max due to being something different. Plus i have the blue series 6 so want to go with the blue/navy route. I do like the look with the blue products/cases. Granted i may put the phone in a blue iphone case but still i do like my products matching.

Same, if I decide to get it. I had no interest in the green but that blue looks really nice. I'm usually a black phone kind of guy but that dark blue is beautiful.

I have a 12 Pro sitting right next to my XS Max and I can't tell a difference at all between the screens other than the 12 Pro being ever so slightly warmer in comparison to the XS Max.

Edit: I should have added that there is something about the screen being flat that is pleasing and makes it feel nicer. However I’m sure that’s lost with 99% of the people once they put the phone in a case.

In Australia our biggest Telco gives a bluetick to phones that they test and have better reception in rural areas. All the latest Samsungs and the last few years all have it, the last iPhone was the 8 with Qualcomm modem.
The 12 has the Qualcomm but didn't get the bluetick, doesn't give me much incentive to swap my 11 pro as i would of in a heartbeat if the 12 had it.
