If you go Android, you're going to get lag, period.

Unless you are rocking a Nexus or something similar to stock Android this is true. What it comes down to really is how much lag can you deal with. I even have some lag/stuttering on my iPhone 6 from time to time. Apple guys will never admit that this happens to them too.

Just ordered one from T-Mobile for a good price. Hopefully it's not as bad as some people are making it out to be.

How's performance on Lollipop with the G3 ? I see the 32gb / 3gb ram European model can be picked up new for €370 now ... Bargain really.

It's only been since last night but thus far much better than I expected.

Really smooth, animations are great and actually battery life seems better already.

But let's give it a week to settle in. Impressed thus far.

Cinsidering buying one/Mac sync possible?

Considering getting a smartphone for the first time the LG G3 looks like a good deal. I've tried reading through this thread but still have some questions:

1) Is it possible to sync the Mac OSX calendar (iCal) and address book with this phone? And preferrably directly (not via Google etc.) between the two devices. I suppose dumping photos, video and audio recordings from the phone is a matter of attaching a USB cable and a "disk" icon pops up on the Mac desktop where you can just drag and drop the files you want in order to copy them?

2) earlier in the thread I read about some serious issues (photos taken can't be saved because media isn't found, time lag when opening apps etc.). Are these common issues for all G3 owners, and is there a fix for this? I read someone else saying Android is known for "we'll fix it in the next release" when in reality things never really get fully fixed (more or less). Having no experience with Android, I don't know what to expect.

I've had mine for a month now and I'm not seeing any lag or any of those issues. Of course I'm using Nova launcher. And I haven't seen any overheating issues from daily usage.

LG issued an update in October addressing UI lag issues. And you can also follow this if you really think you need it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/mod-root-rid-lag-g3-t2819365

Transferring files is just a matter of dragging and dropping it into the disk list on OSX, really simple stuff.

This update is fantastic.

I'm not entirely sure yet but it seems to fix a LOT of issues too, besides being visually stunning. FYI I'm using Google Now Launcher and have switched all animations on to 1x.

Battery life - I've only lost 7% in 12 hours!! That's with an hour of onscreen time and listening to 2 hours of music/podcasts.

The Aux Input problem doesn't seem to be happening anymore (fingers crossed).

Animations - brilliant, basically up there with iOS 8. It's not really lagging much now at all.

The Multitasking button actually ******* works now!! It's a Xmas miracle.

Haven't used the Camera much but will report back on Photos/Gallery soon.

It's almost like getting a new phone, this is crazy good. Well done, LG.

So for a Mac user, getting this phone wouldn't be a disappointment compared to buying an iPhone?

Nice to hear that file transfers work without problems -this can be done with a USB cable? But how about syncing the calendar and address/phonebook with "iCal" and "Address book" on a Mac (without using the cloud)? Third party software is OK if it can't be done out of the box.

I was on iPhone for 5 years and I'm still a MacBook Pro user.

The phone itself isn't a disappointment, in fact after this update, I'd say the cost/value ratio compared to an iPhone 6 Plus is just 3-4 times better in favour of the G3, no doubt there.

File transfers with a USB are super easy.

However, if you're talking about ease of syncing to iTunes, especially photos and music, then the iPhone wins. Backing up too, Apple wins hands down.

The Address Book, personally I just synced everything from Apple over to Google Contacts and it works fine, the Calendar was easy to sync too.

Basically you will have a couple of weeks of fiddling around and getting used to things, that will happen regardless. It's a big change. But I just got a bit bored of iOS and frustrated at the escalating prices.

Nice! I'm still waiting for Lollipop on my SGS5. Should arrive in a few weeks I heard.

What about the overheating issue? Did you have it before and if so is it better now?

Overheating has only once ever cropped up, as long as you keep it at 80% brightness (which is perfect level IMO) then it's absolutely fine.

Overeating, however, is a problem at this time of year!

I was hoping for a way to sync without going online.
Having done some research I've come across a few software packages which supposedly do what I'm asking for (syncing between iCal/Address Book on the Mac and to the phone's calendar/address book, and if possible also keeping SMS/MMS messages). Without the phone I can't really try them out, so I'd like to hear from anyone who's used any of this software or can recommend other Mac software:

Yes, this looks to be a good phone (based on reading multiple reviews and forum comments) for the money. And I assume with LG being a reputable company that it won't fall apart after 12 months like so much these days.

I see there are 16GB and 32GB versions available. Most ads/comments rarely mention the amount of RAM (which, according to LG's site is 2GB and 3GB respectively). With computers, the amount of RAM determines how large/how many apps you can run at once while the 16 and 32GB is the equivalent of hard drive space which determines how many photos, videos, text messages, apps or other files you can store on it. But since there's rarely talk of the RAM inside phones, does this mean the storage space is used as virtual RAM perhaps, so havign 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB really doesn't make a difference? Or does a smartphone work in the same way as a computer and I should really get the one with 3GB RAM?
The 2GB/16GB model is cheaper than the 3GB/32GB model, and MicroSD memory cards can be had for next to nothing, which is why I ask.

Thanks, that's what I thought ;)
I can see getting used to it is going to take a few weeks -it's way more complicated than what I'm used to in IOS. Lots more options, sort of like Windows vs. OSX.

Which email app is recommended for POP3 access which also allows configuring the pop server for "leave on server"? Also, I don't like the idea of Google syncing/prying into (non-GMail) email accounts.
I've tried both K9 and MyMail, but can't find any server configuration options for the above.

Finally, which address book and calendar apps are best for syncing with OSX's iCal and Address book? I intend to try one of the OSX apps mentioned in a previous posting for actually transferring the data without going through Google's online services.

Android is pretty different from using OSX and IOS, and I'm struggling a bit to figure out all the options/choices.
More specifically I'm trying to sync it to the Mac using the free version of SyncMate (they're having a 50% discount for their "pro" version during Christmas and New Year!) but am not quite getting there.
I suspect it has something to do with enabling privacy for the phone which has resulted in the calendar and address book being blocked for syncing.

What I want is to sync "locally" (USB between the phone and Mac) but have no interest or need to upload the phone's contents to Google's (or others') online sync services.
I did find a sync enable/disable option in the phone's preferences, but this only seems to enable or disable ALL syncing. Is there no way to choose one or the other (i.e. am I forced to sync the phone to Google even if I just want to sync it to the Mac via USB?).

I found a decent priced white G3 on CL, but guy said it's from Verizon. He said it works on ATT though ? But how's that possible ? Verizon is CDMA and ATT is GSM ?

And can the Verizon version be rooted and have full TWRP Recovery installed just like the international or T-Mobile version ? None of that stupid Safestrap weird crap like ATT phones need to go through

I believe many Verizon devices also come with a gsm SIM card slot that is unlocked to networks.

Every since LTE phones were on Verizon, they come unlocked to work on gsm carriers like Att, Tmobile etc but they do not work on LTE speeds(most anyway). Sprint phones will work internationally but not in the US on other gsm carriers

Do you need the sync? The main advantage with android over iOS in my opinion is to get away from that god-awful syncing with iTunes.

I use Android File Transfer myself. Whenever you connect the phone by USB you just get a file window (like Finder) where you can drag/drop your files. Just drag over a couple of movies or whatever documents you need, and use your favorite viewer app later to view them. No need to sync files to specific apps or to have your entire library of stuff on the computer you're transfering from. Just plug and go :)

All Verizon LTE devices sold since 2013 are pretty much gsm/HSPA plus compatible with ATT and T-Mobile.

Notice I left out LTE compatible.

The issue is unless u have iPhone 5s or newer iPhone 6/6 plus. Very few (or no other) Verizon phone has support for ATT lte band 17.

Verizon phones generally have band 13 LTE support. And newer ones have band 4 AWS support (att does support band 4 and 17).

But ATT band 17 is more widespread.

So chances are u will have only HSPA plus with a Verizon Lg G3 on ATT network.
