Anyone with experience with the current Moto X can comment on it's GPS performance and cell reception?

My G2 had terrible GPS and cell reception.

Very good GPS and cell reception.

In fact, very many things good about the MX: speaker, screen, size, battery.

The only one very very sore spot? The camera -- it is bad. Like, atrociously bad. Here's to hoping that the MX+1 addresses this.

Don't know about gps but I believe it has the best cell reception of that generation of phones.

My Moto X was excellent in both regards.

Excellent. Thanks.

It's gonna be two long weeks (if the indeed announce the device at the beginning of August).

Can't wait.

Only thing I don't like is if they use an AMOLED screen again (which I bet they will to keep the touchless notifications).

Just want to chime in and say that the speaker on my Moto X is unbelievably loud. In fact I'll take a chance and say it gets even louder than the M7 or M8. I listen to podcasts daily using my phone speaker and I really love how clear and loud they are with the Moto X.

My only complaints with the X are the camera, which is fine for casual use but mediocre in poor light, and the battery, which takes a serious hit with on-screen usage.

Also Active Display is second to none IMO. Much more useful and smarter than a notification light.

Agree on all fronts except for the camera. I think you're being too kind to say it's fine. :p The camera is far from fine for any occasion. The camera straight up sucks. =(

I have a Moto X and it does not get louder than boomsound. It's loud but not that loud. 2nd place at best. Still a great speaker though.

I took this last week in Italy with my Moto X. I think it's solid.

You folks ever listen with the speaker on the LG G3? Serious enough amongst the others for top honors consideration!

----------

Motorola should have announced the new X+1 already. The wait is just too long.

If I like it, my S5 is seriously gone. I haven't put it up for sale yet but this device may end up tossing me over the fence. Geez, can't I just live with one device? The LG G3 should not mind company though hopefully. :)

Might get it to replace my Nexus 5 which I am disliking more and more each day.

What's wrong with the Nexus 5? I was kind of choosing between a Moto X and Nexus 5, sooo...

Regarding the X+1, I'm sure it'll be nice, though the X is already nice so I'd probably go with it if the X+1 is more than $100 more.

Battery life, app crashes, total phone crashes, camera quality, etc.

Pretty much any camera can take good pictures in direct sunlight. When you understand how image sensors work, daylight shots do nothing to impress. Shots indoors with limited light show a camera's "true colors."

I really hope they use an LCD this time. The AMOLED screen was the only thing I really didn't like about my Moto X, and the ultimate reason I sold it. Now after spending some time with the G3, M8, and S5, I won't settle for AMOLED again. It just isn't as good as LCD. No matter what Screen Mode I use on the S5, colors don't look good. Colors are either too vibrant or too dull. And I don't care what the guy from DisplayMate says, white just doesn't look as good on the S5 as on an LCD.

I hear the complaints on amoled, there certainly are drawbacks. I think I lean towards LCD too, though I am pleased with my s4 aside from in direct sunlight.

I can't see them going LCD with active notifications due to the way amoled handles black pixels.

Yes I know. I said from the start that the X is bad indoors with low light. My point was that people seem to declare the X as having a terrible camera and I think it's solid in the right conditions like outdoors.

Because it does.

The iPhone 3G camera is solid in the right conditions (blaring sunlight outdoors). Does that mean its not a terrible camera?

Yeah I really don't see your point here. I disagree that the Moto X is a terrible camera. It fails in some scenarios for sure and I wouldn't call it anything beyond average for a camera phone. But in my recent trip I shot plenty of good photos like the one I posted. It's not just outdoors in the sun. I have some nice shots at night too. Granted in well lit areas. So if you deem it terrible, that's your opinion. But terrible IMO implies it sucks in most or all situations and I don't agree.

When you understand how image sensors work you know that just about any camera can take acceptable shots in satisfactory light. You should never judge a camera based on outdoor shots. Its deceptive. If you think a camera is good, take it indoor with limited light. That is how you judge a camera.

Most camera phones IMO are mediocre to bad in indoor limited light situations and I wouldn't label those phones as sporting bad or terrible cameras.

turns out to be the real Moto X1 deal then I am out. I cant believe how they could ruin such a nice design with this atrociously bad looking phone. Its just so... wacky. I particularly hate the front speakers, they make the phone look so cheap.

And why would they kill the dimple for that plastic logo? and what is up with that camera... god damn it looks like a manhole cover

I agree that the front facing speakers don't look good... on the white model.

Maybe on the black model they won't be that noticeable.

Why are you expecting invites this soon? Didn't Motorola say it's going to be a "late summer" release?

True! Forgot about that report.

I remember the Moto X was announced at the beginning of August last year (I thought it was the 10th but just checked and it was on the first of August), so I assumed they would announce the successor on the same day, but it has already passed.

I guess we will need to wait more.
