I was under the impression all of the Samsung phones are still at 4.1. Which is that the one x currently has. And the only complaint I've heard from the many htc owners I know is poor battery life in some instances. Sense is one of the better UIs as far as usability goes. It's still a pig though in some cases. Hopefully htc fixed that with sense 5. Can't wait to get my hands on the one.

That's correct. All North American samsungs are on 4.1.2 or older. Only the nexus 4 is on 4.2 I believe. The one x was ok on battery life but still worse than the sgs3 and even more subpar compared to the iPhone.

Here is a review of the HTC One from one of the "major" sites. Ideally anandtech seems to be by far the greatest for in-depth reviews but the verge is still very good. Battery life is seen as questionable again. There is also a review of the Xperia Z there. Both these reviews were published today:

http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/11/4086390/htc-one-review

http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/11/4084004/sony-xperia-z-review

I have issues with both reviews. I think Vlad makes too much noise about the off angles viewing on the Xperia Z. I think David was very vague about the conditions of the battery test. Both are worth reading, but it's important to read a variety of reviews in order to help make your purchasing decision. Browsing the comments on both reviews shows me that too many people value one single review too much.

Have you seen the Z screen?

Think of the htc titan screen but with a resolution of 1080P and that is the Z screen.

The Titan has a great screen with good viewing angles. What are you getting at?

Seriously?

Don't talk crazy man.

I had both and got rid of both cause the screen was horrid on anything but straight on.

The smallest whiff of a turn off centre and the screen turns white.

I sent the Z back with in one hour of buying it.

Maybe the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 have spoilt me, the screen on the one though looks very nice, can't wait for it to arrive.

I've handled the Titan and Titan II and never saw an issue with viewing angles. I also find it bizarre that you returned a phone after an hour of owning it. You didn't notice such a thing before making your purchase? Also, who cares about viewing angles? I look at my iPhone screen front forward 99% of the time.

If you read below regarding the twitter comments you will see that Brian Klug of anandtech has made a comment regarding battery life, in effect disagreeing greatly. Brian Klug (with anand lal shimpi) do by far the most exhaustive phone tests.

Wow. This review seriously has me rethinking about purchasing then One now. I wasn't expecting the best battery life but he made it sound terrible and the camera which is supposed to one of the most innovating things in the phone got ****** all over in the review :|.

Not to mention my biggest concern getting the phone, Sense, was also complained about.

Oh great. Another HTC fail. HTC ticks all the boxes and puts it in a beautiful case, but they always seem to screw something up, just like the One X, etc.

Poor battery. Why is this STILL an issue for HTC? What are Sammy and Motorola doing that HTC doesn't seem to understand?

Poor camera
Non-removable battery
No sd card slot
Sense 5 isn't all that.

Good luck to HTC, but I'll be buying the Galaxy IV.

That's still a very early review. Wait for more in depth reviews from people who spend more than a couple days with a device.

I'm not sure why no sd card slot is an issue still. The Lack of said "feature" has been absent on most flagships for a while now barring Samsung phones and the Optimus g. No sd card slot should not come as a surprise anymore despite how useful it may be.

Verge review confirms all my reservations of the HTC one.

1) stupid power/wake location. Requires shuffling your hand to wake or sleep device. It was annoying on the one X and will continue to be so on such large phones. HTC needs to wake up; some things of the iPhone should not be mimicked and the top power button is one of them.

2) uncomfortable home button. And why is it there? All for a logo. Like salt on a wound.

3) battery concerns. It's HTC. Nuff said.

Also shocked about the mediocre camera.

HTC and Apple have been ****ing around when it comes to removable SD cards. They're infinitely more useful than people say they are. I can always expand memory. If I had a Nexus 4 or HTC, I would have to go out and buy another phone. Ridiculous.

Another thing is transferring large files, like movies. It takes forever to move files to my Note 2 with the USB cable, but if I pop out the SD card and put it into my Macbook, it is significantly faster.

I'm not debating their utility, I'm debating whether or not we should be surprised phones are lacking them these days.

Can you imagine how angry HTC One users would get if the next HTC flagships this year (like the One +, One DNA or whatever) drop the ultrapixel (4 megapixel) camera and go back to the traditional 8 or 13 megapixel camera because of the bad reviews the camera is getting?

It would be like HTC admitting they made a wrong choice.

But wait.......... does this new ultrapixel strategy mean that ALL HTC flagship phones from now on will have it too? So should we expect a 4 megapixel camera on all their flagship phones this year and beyond?

That could destroy them........ and if they return to traditional cameras it would also destroy them, since HTC One users would be so pissed and everyone else won't trust them again.

I mean it kind of sucks, but 4.2 didn't really bring any must have features.

Even if this was an acceptable response (it shouldn't be), do you feel confident HTC will provide 4.2 in a timely fashion? And in 3-6 months time, whenever KLP comes out, do you feel confident they'll provide that update soon after?

Keep in mind, I've lately been of the opinion immediate updates aren't that important. I created an entire thread about it. But, I also don't want to wait forever (figuratively speaking, but sometimes literally speaking, too), and with HTC's history, there's a good chance of that happening.

I feel about as confident as any other manufacturer in regards to timely updates..... (which is they wont be timely but protracted)... If you want that update faster, thats why you buy a nexus handset.

Your selectivly reading the phone review to make sure it confirms to your existing point of view. You were never going to buy the phone so the points were moot before the review even existed to be honest.

Point 2 for example. Yes he said

the Home button that’s far enough to the right that it’s hard to hit unless you’re holding the phone in two hands

but he expanded on the comment and colunter-balanced that by saying

Even if I never did stop pressing the center-located HTC logo trying to go back to the home screen, the One feels a lot better than most phones this size, and I did eventually learn how to shimmy the phone up and down in my hand to reach the various parts of the screen and body.

Point 3 - battery concerns.

Every android phone I've had has had battery concerns and to be honest battery tests in first reviews are often a little off as it can take a week of usage before the battery settles down and in the first few days you are using the phone far more excessively than you do once the novelty wears off, and so in the early days of course your not going to get the best battery life compared to 2 months in.

HTC-One-Battery-Life.png

--------

Just seems your being overly negative on a device you were not interested in in the first place. There are far more good points in all the reviews than negatives so far.

I imagine once the S4 is released anyone will be able to pick apart a good review to focus on the negs just as equally.

It's amazing when people claim to know what's in your head, or what prerogative or course of action you will make.
