Main disadvantage

4MP camera has disappointing performance in good lighting conditions

Way to have it backwards, HTC. :T

Awkwardly-placed and uncomfortable power button

And while the power button does extremely well at its hobby, it's rather less comfortable for the main job. HTC's decision to place the power key on the top of large screened smartphones such as the One makes little sense, as this is one of the hardest places to reach. This time the key itself is also sitting pretty low and its press feedback is poor. That's bad news about one of the most used controls on the phone.

Sigh. Reliving the discomforts of the HTC One X... want, I do not.

See I think it is placed perfectly. I hate the side power button if my S3 because I love Netflix and YouTube and it is right where my thumb normally sits. I like the placement because it's easy to hit as you place in your pocket. For me at least.

I agree, find myself accidentally hitting the power/sleep button on my Note 2 all the time with my thumb. As I usually use the phone with my right hand, I think the placement on the One is fine, an easy reach with my right index finger. The placement on top of the iPhone never bothered me and actually this position is even better as it feels more natural than the top right-side of the iPhone. Simulated using it on my Note 2 (far larger device) and doesn't bother me at all.

I also find the integration of the IR port into the power button much better aesthetically than how it's done on the upcoming S4--one less hole in the device.

So apparently HTC One is pretty good in terms of battery life. While i await the real review from anandtech, i wonder if theverge.com has degraded so much in terms of a proper objective review.

My biggest gripe seems to be virtual menu button (which is hopefully fixed) and blinkfeed. Although may be by putting nova i can get over the feed and menu will come too.

Hmmm, HTC really needs this to be a hit or they are done.

Most reviews (except The Verge) say the battery life is actually decent. As for the power button...meh. Doesn't bother me. Camera performance is same old story from every OEM out there except Apple, the 808 PureView, and N8. Over-processed images galore.

If i was in the market for an Android Flagship i'd definitely be getting the HTC One. I'd get the N4 for stock Android but the CPU/GPU throttling, battery life, LTE absence, and horribly calibrated screen are huge turnoffs.

No Sammie for me because personally because i can't stand TouchWiz plus i don't want to revert to dealing with a plastic shell which i waved bye to when the iPhone 4 launched. Its either Unibody-Polycarbonate, Aluminium or Glass for me. Hyper-glazed plastic is simply a no no...regardless of how modular.

Isn't gs3 polycarbonate? I like the aluminium.

Best review of the HTC One I've seen yet.

He too complains about the power button, saying almost exactly what I've been saying; htc needs to get with the program regarding placement.

He brings up a great point. If you have a lock screen you have to shuffle and reach up to wake device then shuffle and reach down to slide unlock the software lock screen. (During one handed use that is)

Same with htc one x. It seriously sucks. Good luck to all who don't believe me.

But seriously with a near 5" display 99% of people would use two hands.

I appreciate you don't like the button placement or the home button arrangement, that's fine - but telling us 399 times isn't going to move it at this stage ;)

Trust me - everyone knows your feelings about it.. But maybe...

Small hands maybe? I have the One X plus and have no problems palming the device, pressing the power button with my index finger and slide to unlock with my thumb all with one smooth motion.

Then again, I'm 6"4 and can palm a basketball with one hand. Also, I've been using HTC devices for quite a while and the button placement at the top is second nature to me :)

London, England.
I've preordered HTCOne from their official UK Website,

I cannot wait for the handset and this is something which can truly rival the iPhone.

I've had nothing but iPhone's since 2007-08, but finally looking forward to a change.

Well, I'm 5'11" with what I'd consider average size hands and I can simulate the One's wake motion on my Note 2, a significantly larger device, one-handed with no difficulty. As with most smartphone features, it's really just coming down to personal preference. I personally think far to much is being made about this feature by some folks...;)

AGREED

My biggest concern is battery performance. In editions past sense has been pretty heavy which taxes the battery. Sense 5 is supposed to be a much lighter, slimmed down package and even with the addition of LTE it should be more efficient.

Even then it won't be much of an issue because as soon as a root exploit is found and developers start cranking out custom roms/mods, ill most likely run a more efficient custom version of sense that will drastically improve battery performance.

Agreed, after trying it on my S3 hitting a power button on the right side (iPhone) seems far more awkward than the left side. Well at least for me being right handed.

This phone just destroys the iPhone 5!

Looks better, performs better, larger screen.

Their dev site.

Yup, have that page bookmarked for future use. Considering I don't have an available upgrade until December, figure if I'm paying full retail I'm getting the unlocked version. Just would like to know if it'll have S-off as well.
