This phone just destroys the iPhone 5!

Looks better, performs better, larger screen.

Larger screen for sure...looks better? Looks good, that's also for sure. Performs better? That is TBD...

I still don't believe it will be as smooth as the iPhone, but surely hope so! If this thing feels like the iPhone 5, then I am switching to it.

Unlocked HTC One will only work well on ATT? On Tmo it'll only get 3G? Is this true?

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416536,00.asp

"Here's the problem: the Developer Edition has HSPA/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 and LTE 700/850/AWS/1900. If you don't know what that means but you're still cheering for unlocked phones, you need to get educated fast, because this is the problem with unlocked phones in the U.S.

This phone will only work properly on AT&T.

On T-Mobile, it will get 3G in some cities, but not in others; it'll be stuck on 2G in many places. It might get LTE in the future, but we're not sure. Ditto for Simple Mobile, Ready SIM, Straight Talk, and any other carrier that uses T-Mobile's network."

In sincerely hope not, because despite my reservations about this phone, it's still one that I'm keeping a close eye on.

Also, is there any sort of return policy for their developer unit?

Yup, have that page bookmarked for future use. Considering I don't have an available upgrade until December, figure if I'm paying full retail I'm getting the unlocked version. Just would like to know if it'll have S-off as well.

It is not S-off. Only unlocked bootloader.

Don't know about return period. And as of now, AT&T is the only LTE-GSM network in the United States so yes, the dev edition will only work on their LTE network. T-Mobile's future LTE network is built on completely different spectrum so will not be compatible with any current AT&T LTE devices (or most unlocked devices).

You can't blame HTC for this.

Thanks for clarifying. So will the tmobile version of the one have tmobile lte radios? It must right? We're only speaking about the developers edition above correct?

I'm not sure if this is true. I just bought an unlocked HTC One X on amazon (At&T branding) and today i popped in my T-mobile prepaid 4G sim. I am getting LTE speeds on it. The fastest i got was 30mbps. Earlier in the day i was getting regular speeds but i think T-Mobile just switched on their LTE in the DC area.

Amazon now says release date has been pushed to Apr 12th

Just checked my status on Expansys and shows 29th still, but wont actually ship till the 2nd of April due to the bank holiday  Of course that can slip.... :(

edit...

It may be the case that Amazon have heard how many they are getting 'officially' now and have allocated them to exisiting pre-orders and that they will ship the 29th March, but new orders will have to wait for the next batch 12'th April.

Clove.co.uk are mean't to be making an announcement today on twitter regarding their actual stock position.

At this rate the S4 will be out everywhere before it.... not something HTC needed........

Yeah. It seems they've ran out of first batch stock. Their 3rd party partners are the ones quoting Apr 12th. HTC only have themselves to blame for the mess. They are making the option to wait for the S4 much easier for consumers.

To me once the S4 launches and floods the market...it'll be game over.

Update from Clove.co.uk

HTC One stock update

If you have an order with Clove for a HTC One, or have been planning to place an order, please find the current stock situation below:

Silver HTC One – First stock delayed until next week, 3rd April.

Black HTC One – First stock delayed until 10th April.

Orders placed on or after 26th March are likely to ship late April.

We are very sorry to deliver this frustrating news, but it is very common with new launches of Smartphones. We are of course keen to ship your order as soon as we can.

We do not yet know what quantity of stock we will receive, but as soon as we do we will advise you.

Talk about HTC getting it so wrong.

I wonder if this is also the case with pre-orders made with Expansys UK?

Well I'm in the same boat, I too pre-ordered with Expansys.

I rang them today. Simply put, they haven't a clue!

Regardless even if they get them in 29th/30th then it wont ship till the 2nd anyway because of the bank holiday weekend.

So given that Clove don't expect the silver till the 3'rd - in worse case scenario Expansys are the same - then it only essentially means 1 day difference. But still bloody annoying.

My expansys tracking shows expected stock 5 days... Yet store says 4 days ? So who knows...?

While I love the HTC One, I'm afraid HTC already lost this battle. They really screwed this up.

Screwee how ?

I've yet to see any marketing (online, TV, what have you) for the HTC One. They announced the phone and let it die. Where's the clever commercial. Samsung (with their crappy S3) nailed their commercials touting what their phones did over the iPhone. It was bold and in your face. HTC, not so much. I guess they are relying on the blogs to sell this phone. And now with the shipping delays, they just ruined their momentum. Samsung will have their commercials and those commercials will be playing through a customer's head when they are choosing between the HTC One and the S4.

Very strange,

Also how come you've had to send ID to Expansys?

As i'm not in the UK and we don't have house numbers or postcodes...

Most folks who make up the 'majority' of customers are not the geeks like us who watch launch events. They're your normal folks who find out about the phone only after it's available and from carriers / phone shops / newspapers & magazines and TV adverts.

No point HTC spending a fortune on TV advertising when it's not freely available on carriers / shops or online. Why advertise something people can't buy ?

Once it's officially launched and stock levels become sustainable - expect a big TV campaign and press campaign then.

But they're "quietly brilliant" :)

London, England.
I will be ringing ExpansysUK first thing tomorrow morning,

They haven't updated their stock allocation dates yet...

Fingers crossed, should receive it early next week when they are back open after Easter break.
