I love the location of the notification light too. Again, entirely possible to have it without interfering with design aesthetics. Ahem, Apple.

To be quite honest, Apple could make a notification light that ADDED to the design aesthetics....

How about making the square on the home button glow?

I'm an iPhone guy but I must admit the HTC One is a winner in my eyes. It's the only Android device that has actually got my attention. The aesthetics, build quality, specs, all very impressive. I'm too heavily invested in the ecosystem to make a switch, but I can definitely appreciate what HTC's done here.

I hope HTC succeeds with it as they deserve to. It's sad to see just one dominant player (Samsung) get all the attention in the Android space when phones like this one should be selling like hotcakes.

If I ever needed a 2nd phone, it would be the One without a doubt.

Reminds me of the sleep pulsating light on Macbook Pros. I'd love to see an iPhone with one.

If Apple were to add LED it will probably be discrete like HTC One. Or make the home button with LED build in.

The HTC One photos look pretty bad to me:

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/C...a-Lumia-920-and-Galaxy-S-III_id3285#4-HTC-One

There is a serious lack of crispness and color in almost all the One photos. That's seriously disappointing.

On top of that, the sharpness and the colors of the S4 mostly look great, too.

I think HTC may have made a mistake...

EDIT: To be fair, I don't see any mention of the firmware update for the One, so who knows if these are with or without the update. I'm really hoping these are without.

Likewise, as I discovered a factory reset and setting sharpness to -2 actually dramatically improved quality. I suspect most ofthe HTC Ones camera problems are actually software related currently. That being said a 12-13 mega pixel photo is going to look dramatically cleaner and more detailed than a 3.8 megapixel photo regardless.

Basically the HTC one takes good enough photos for social media needs, if you expect more you'll likley be disappointed. Personally I think I'd have preferred a 8-13 mega pixel camera with all the HTC Zoe features, but as with everything there always seems to be some tradeoffs / sacrifices with every device.

All this time, the smartphone camera has been moving toward this idea that it's a camera that you can use without the need to bring a second device (an actual dedicated camera). All this time we've been building and improving up to this, much of it led by the iPhone.

And to now settle for just good enough for social media needs seems very backwards to me.

It's great it works better in the dark, but I think HTC may have made a mistake here. I say may because the verdict is still out whether this gamble and bucking of the trend will pay off for them. I really wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

If you look at the bottom of the last page, it gives details of firmware and software versions.

HTC One - Android 4.1.2, Build number 1.28.401.7

So you'll be pleased to know that their results are pre firmware update.

Just played with the One and WOW...stunning device. Best screen I've seen on a phone and build quality and design is phenomenal. Like what HTC did with the UI too. Responsive, smooth and great fonts. Didn't have an issue with power button placement either.

If I was in the market for a non-Apple flagship...no question. Might even trade my N4 for it.

I posted this in the other HTC One thread but thought it would be more apt here.

Had a play with a working model in the O2 shop in Harrogate this afternoon, the device is beautifully crafted with a screen to die for, I like the OS and was really impressed with Blinkfeed, bottom line is, IMHO, tis a stunner, and my first impression is that one would need to look far and wide to find a better phone. :)

Very good to know! Thanks.

The pics from the Android Police review are much better, too: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...nt-smartphone-this-year-may-also-be-the-best/

Yeah they mention my issue with camera and that the HDR software is inconsistent to say least, yes it ges the sky perfect but often over exposes other areas, or introduces compression / softness that isn't there without,

So HTC so have software to improve camera wise definetly but its clear that they are making ongoing changes, and the fact they have laid so much on the line with 'ultra pixels' that it acts as great incentive for them to continue to improve the software.

They also need to make camera UI little easier for selecting scene mode. Its a tiny bit cumbersome to select between modes.

But otherwise another glowing review that I definetly echo his opinion. Its a great phone.

April 18th can't come soon enough.

I'm still worried that the unlocked version won't run well on Tmobile. The iPhone 5 without Tmo's AWS HSPA+ band runs 3G and 4G like crap. =T

You shouldn't be worried you should be certain by now. No 1700 MHz band pretty much guarantees it won't be a pleasant experience unless you live in a city that has T-Mobile LTE. Otherwise you'll be bouncing from 1900 MHz if your area has been refarmed and being forced to live on the Edge.

I'm in NYC so it's refarmed and has Tmo LTE. It just sucks, then, I guess. :T

Wow!!! Pictures from Androidpolice are nothing short of amazing. I'm not worried about camera anymore.

Are there any issues of heat with the aluminum back?

I notice even my iPhone gets hot with gaming. The back and sides.

Any similar reports for the one?

I did see something on the TechnoBuffalo review stating that it did warm up but nothing more than the iPhone or S3 did. He said it was a non issue and often times loved the "literally cool" feel of the One. Being cold to touch that is.

Can't tell, the benefit of the double dip case ;)

But I imagine like most supercharged android device, when gaming it'll probably get warm. Though I don't game hugely on my mobile, I usually save that for my iPad mini.

They're great, they clearly have different firmware to me. I wish android software rollout was more consistent, especially when a device launches and in almost every territory there is a different firmware.
