One major problem with SwiftKey you gotta inform people of, it works great until you pay for it, then every time you restart your phone it goes right back to the default keyboard. You have to change it to swift key every time you restart

No way, never been an issue on any of my devices:)

A quick Macro shot with the HTC One

Tmobile LTE is horrifically bad. I mean, the range of the services is just pathetic. The moment you step inside a building, even remotely inside, service is gone.

And even when you have service, it's very spotty and poor.

If the HTC One unlocked version runs like this, too, it's going right back. If I like the device, I'll have to get the actual Tmobile version. If not, I'll have to get the Tmobile version of the S4.

I don't know why HTC didn't include Tmo's AWS HSPA+ bands. Stupid move to offer an unlock phone that only runs fully on AT&T.

Tried stopping by a tmobile store to see if they have one on hand? They don't have a demo unit at att yet, but an employee had one and was willing to show it to people.

Looks pretty good. I think one thing they said about the One was that it takes very good macro photos. I'm impressed.

Testing it with some more seascapes definitely improved with -2 sharpness.

I suspect the camera software is still in its infancy, i find HDR tends to be hit and miss. It will sort out the sky's without problem, but often tends to lose definition in the rest of the picture - without HDR everything is much cleaner.

So HTC definitely have to tinker with the software some more, it feels like the software is holding back the hardware as it were.

I know they released a firmware of some such a few weeks back, but we could do with another.

A LOT of people are reporting unlocked HTC One being back ordered. Myself included.

Luckily it's not too bad. From 4/19 to 4/24 (if that date sticks).

This is forgivable, I guess, but that's really disappointing. It better not slip any further.

Again, HTC just does not instill any confidence or stability in me. This does not help. Not to mention they really can't afford unsatisfied customers at this point.

EDIT: My trade in deadline is May 5th to send back my old device. If the ship date slips any further, that is very unfair.

Yeah, mine has pushed back to 4/24 as well. Disappointing as I was looking forward to playing with it all weekend but certainly not that big of a deal.

Hey, look at it this way, it is now more likely that you'll be able to hold the HTC one and S4 side by side before your return period is up.

Did I see somewhere that the One comes with 50gb of Dropbox storage? I've been looking thru android sites and can't find it but thought I saw it somewhere.

EDIT:
https://www.dropbox.com/help/249/

Says AT&T opted out of this feature :/

Dont know wtf is "s-off" but if you can put stock android on the one dont know what more will you want.

S-Off is basically having the NAND protection off. (Security Off)
This allows custom bins and imgs to be flashed. Without it custom kernels, and furthermore a vanilla-esque experience (AOSP, CM, AOKP, etc) will be impossible. HTC lags to death when it comes to this, one of their many shortcomings over the past years. That, bundled with their non-removable battery and lack of SD has crippled their fanbase and sales. I, for one have used Android since it's introduction because of these features. I opted for the G1 (1st Android phone) over the iPhone for this. To each their own, I love android and Samsung for the ease of use when it comes to open source and customization. Samsung is notorious for releasing the source code for a device before it is even officially released, making it worlds easier for the development community. The original ROMster Cyanogen was eventually hired at Samsung. That's innovation right there ladies and gentlemen.

Negative champ, s-off doesn't stop you from flashing Cm, aosp, aokp etc. Now a locked down bootloader will.

Certain things s-off will prevent are things like usb-otg.

Also Cyanogen is no longer in bed with Samsung and he had a few parting words for them on his way out the door.

Yup.

That doesn't bode well for HTC overall. I think the S4 will make a big impression on people in person. I know the Note II made a very positive impression on me when I actually handed it.

A lot of people are giving HTC a shot. They just have to deliver on the goods and promises. With their track record, we all have very good cause for concern...

You know what I keep reading about? How Samsung mid range devices are getting jellybean updates on sprint etc. is it just me? I feel like I've seen a few reports of this recently.

I don't get the same feeling with htc devices of old. Please correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't sound like htc is in the news a lot with their older devices being updated while Samsung is.

Am I wrong?

I always think I'll want to get one because of all the positive commentary about it.....unfortunately, it's when I handle the device that I snap back to reality and remember - its just too damn big.

Too each his own - my wife had always thought Android phones were too large. We were at Best Buy last night buying filters for our fridge and she picked up an S3 - she said she loved the size and how it felt. Samsung certainly has the ergonomics right.

We also saw a dummy HTC One (first time I've seen one) and she hated the speaker grills (of course I loved it). Looking forward to comparing the two (One and S4) in person!
