My problematic iphone 4s and old mophie juice pack is barely getting me through the day now. Can't wait for my HTC One. Hopefully att ships on the 16th as stated on their site.
This is the last issue I have with HTC.....battery life seems to work well for people with heavier usage than I will have, so all that's left to see is if HTC can provide timely updates - which is a big deal for me.
I guess its a good thing I have to wait until September....by then we'll be able to see if HTC is actually making good on their word to provide updates quickly.
And I agree wholeheartedly with your last paragraph.....HTC seems to be marketing the thing well (with the whole Experience Tour thing), and once they get the phone out to users, hopefully it will take off. I really think they will - they have to as this is their only flagship of 2013 and they aren't in any position to be resting on laurels.
Yeah it's grand.
Emails with rich HTML content are better viewed in landscape though.
If timely updates are important to you then make sure you get the unlocked HTC version (either 32 GB or 64 GB developer edition) directly from HTC's website. You will get the update as soon as HTC is ready to push it out without having to wait for carrier approval.
Yeah you brought up one point that I forgot about, and thats the fact that the phone ships with 4.1.2. Based on HTC's previous track record on updates, I have a suspicious feeling that it might be a few months before we see 4.2.x.Me too. I'm really warming up more and more to the One now that I have it preordered and am prepping myself to deal with the few things I don't like. I'm really quite excited. I think my "plan" to get around the home button, power button, etc will work swimmingly. I even bought a pouch already from Etsy!
Plus, I can't get over what a value HTC is offering. 64GB at the same price as Apple's 16GB iPhone, and the $100 trade-in makes the deal outrageously sweet for a 2013 superpower smartphone.
The other hurdles for the One to get over, to me, are my own real-world battery tests and whether HTC finally learns from their mistakes regarding software updates.
Regarding the battery... though most reviews sound promising, I am cautiously optimistic because I got burned big time with the One X when its battery reviews were good too. The actual experience was far from good. So just being cautiously optimistic.
Regaring updates... unfortunately, there's no way to know within 14 days if HTC has learned their lesson or not in this area. It definitely worries me there's no hard date for 4.2.2. I can forgive them for releasing with 4.1 due to scheduling and whatnot, but it would help if they gave us a more concrete promise of 4.2.2. HTC has made these vague promises of updates in the past and historically have no kept to them. I -- and everyone else who cares about updates -- have every cause and right to be worried. I'm hoping the developer's edition also helps speed things up, but again, won't know if this will be true or not within 14 days. This one area will be a gamble...
C'mon HTC. People are rooting for you. It's up to you to bring it. There's really no one else to blame but yourself if you can't dig yourself out with a device as gorgeous and promising as the One.
I can guarantee you, at this point, you're pretty much just like me. Something new and exciting comes out that makes your senses tingle. After a few weeks of honeymoon period, it's back to the iPhone.Well after about three weeks my little "experiment" is over and the One has been sold on eBay. I'm back on my iPhone 5.
Once the initial wow factor wore off and I'd played with it to death. I had cravings for the simplicity of iOS and the way the iPhone generally fitted into my lifestyle better. The HTC was/is a great phone but for me the iPhone did all the critical things I needed with ease and no fuss.
I'm a sucker for shiney new things so I guess I'll be back on an android sometime soon, but for now I'm going to run with iOS and see what the next round of big updates bring.
Quick question. When you open a new email, do you have to zoom out to properly view it, or can you set the default view as zoomed out like you can with the Gmail app. I find I like the Gmail app the best, but it only works with Gmail and I also have a couple yahoo accounts I want synced up.
Why flip now when you can try the phone for two weeks and decide later?
The HTC was a impulse pre-order for me, since it wasn't available yet and gave me some time to do more research before I set my mind on it. The only reason why I pre-ordered right away was for the limited developer version release, as well as to get in on the $100 HTC trade in offer they're running until the end of this month.A lot if flip floppers in this thread. I"'m starting to like the one, actually no, i just cancelled my order/sold the phone"

Not sure what other people's reason were if they decide to return the HTC One, but the deal breaker for me was the phone being released on 4.1.2, with no timeframe of when 4.2.x will be out for the phone. I got myself confused with the Samsung S4, which ships at launch on 4.2.2.
If it's anything, I hate buying a brand new phone only to be behind in updates, or lack thereof. The Galaxy Nexus on Verizon really put a sour taste in my mouth in the delay of updates, and HTC regardless of whether if its unlocked and/or developer version doesn't exactly have a strong place in my heart on releasing timely updates (HTC Thunderbolt comes to mind).
Is 4.2.2 that much different than 4.1.2? What features were added?
4.2.2 came with a ton of bug fixes as well, top 2 being bluetooth and battery life.
By the time KLP is available for Nexus devices, I'd be surprised if HTC has 4.2.x out for the One. Has HTC said anything about KLP + Sense 5 on the One?Right, because 4.2 came with a lot of bugs....
All-in-all, as long as HTC gets to KLP in a timely fashion, I'm not too worried.
Though whether or not THAT will happen is still up in the air.
I'm going 90%.....now HTC needs to come the other 10%......I don't want to go the full hundred

I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, just curious at this point to see what their "new" support plan is.

Lock screen widgets and swype-like typing on the stock keyboard.....at least those are the two I use and I think both came with 4.2

Yeah I know. I just want to be sure that HTC will support the phone for at least 2 major OS releases. It would be a damn shame for them to just give us a 4.2.x update, whenever that is, then move on to the next phone. How can it say anything about KLP when google haven't announced it officially or given a release date themselves ?
Your 'way' ahead of yourself![]()
Correct, I'm just throwing 4.2.2 out there since thats the most current update of JB. If HTC was to give us a 4.2.x update, 4.2.2 will be the only logical candidate, as of this moment.Yeah, but those bug fixes were for 4.2 and 4.2.1.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses for HTC, really hope they follow through on this. I just find that in this case it doesn't really impact me personally.

A photo snap after the factory reset. The softness is much improved (no mass compression) and there is no bluring to the bottom left (portrait) / bottom right (landscape) of images. This was taken on a dull windy day.
So definitely if you experience any problems try a factory reset first.
