Apple is the only company making sure their products look nice both on the outside and inside. Did anyone see the disassembly of the HTC One on iFixit?Compare that to the internals of iPhone... or just any Apple device. It's pure beauty.

Except you don't open up the device so it really doesn't matter. Who cares if you're servicing the device and it looks pretty.

onto the device. Again it begs for gestures. Swipe pad unfortunately didn't seem very responsive on the one. This is odd cause its very responsive and reliable on the s3 where I first used it. I'm hoping its just cause it's a display model or something and just needed a reboot or something to be more responsive. I don't know. When I get my own I'll be able to test for sure. If swipepad is more responsive and reliable I can forgive the home configuration. Again, suck a stupid illogical and senseless move by htc regarding that. Oh and guess what? When the giant menu bar is displayed in an app, swipepad (swipe up from bottom) doesn't work cause the screen thinks you're trying to hit the giant menu button on the bottom. Wonderful.

Overall I walked away pleased. I think the one can work for me. I can't wait to get my actual device and really set it up my way to test.

Swipepad works very responsively here mate. You must tinker with the settings because at default settings they have only zone a very small area for swiping and the sensitivity setting is set to low.

I've adjusted my swipe area to be much bigger and turned sensitivity up.

I have no trouble launching it :)

Also the free version has less options.

I can do a video of me using it if you want to see how smoothly & effortlessly it works here.

You know what else I noticed that sort of bugged me a bit? The glass where the camera sits in sort of flexes. Is it my imagination? I was holding it and gave it a slight nudge with my index finger and I felt it go in a little. And so I pushed it a little harder, and it definitely flexed inward. Isn't it hard glass? Maybe it's just the display model? I'm not sure.

Could just be me.

----------

Possibly. :)

Yes just you. There is certainly ZERO flex here anywhere on the one.

If you want to use the HTC logo for something you can always load wave launcher. Because the logo isn't a button it gives a perfect area for you to assign the swipe up and launch the wave launcher.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5tb2JpbGVtZXJpdC53YXZlbGF1bmNoZXIiXQ..

Personally doesn't bother me, but if you are looking for something give wave launcher a go.

Apparently Apple cares, and I think when companies do pay attention to details, both outside and inside, it says something. iFixit couldn't really open up the HTC One without destroying it. That's pretty sad.

For people who want to keep the beauty of the HTC One, don't look at the disassembly. :p

It actually wasn't so much an issue of launching it. It would launch fine (except if the on-screen 'menu' bar was at the bottom. YOu ever have trouble launching it with the on-screen menu bar?). It was an issue of it taking my command on one of the portals. I had set the bottom row of three portals to all "Home" and sometimes when I let go on a portal, it wouldn't take me Home.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. That's what I mean with unresponsive. Like I can't do it quickly. I have to do it slowly for it to register the portal.

Do you experience that?

No, for me each icon launches immediately and I too have set the bottom one to home and as soon as I press i'm taken to home instantaneously, there is no delay what so ever for me.

Edit.. Never mind..

Homer Simpson Moment !!!!!!

DOH!!! I think I have mixed up sidebar with swipepad. ?? :( sorry bud.. Yeah it's sidebar I use not swipe pad.

I'll install swipepad and see what it's like. Quite possibly its not optimised for the One. I'll install now..

Edit 2.....

Well I've installed Swipepad, I've assigned apps and home button to the default pad in settings and made the area more sensitive / bigger, but I can't even get that ring thing to show or activate. I rebooted to see if that helps but nothing. The app is just not working for me at all.

It can't be a device fault it's clearly something wrong with the software, maybe it doesn't work with 1080p screens ? Either way it doesn't work for me.

Try Sidebar, like I say I know that works perfectly and you can assign just as much stuff to it.

Yeah too bad they lock you up tighter than a lobster's claws. I could care less what my phone looks like inside when i can't use it to my whims.

I guess some people routinely open up their macs and iPhones to gawk at the internal beauty.

I think my point was that for companies that really care about the design and details, they just can't stand knowing that the internals of their product look like a turd. ;)

Classic Apple RDF at work, if it isn't Apple made, it is a turd now.

YouTube: video

Wave launcher is pretty cool. Just like Palm Webos.

If this proves true, it could potentially really embarrass HTC's camera decision: http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...egapixel-camera-with-improved-sensitivity-hdr

Rumor: Apple's next-gen iPhone to boast 12-megapixel camera with improved sensitivity, HDR

According to a fresh report out of the Far East, Apple's next-generation "iPhone 5S" could employ a rear-facing camera with an improved 12MP sensor capable of producing high dynamic range images and better nighttime photos.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: I'm gonna laugh if my 920 takes better pictures then the iphone 5s.

That's what I thought. SwipePad ran very funnily on the One when I tested it too. I will def. try Sidebar. Looks very cool, too. Can Sidebar be activated from the bottom though? I would prefer to gesture upward from the HTC logo.

Thanks for testing so thoroughly.

Yeah you can assign the side bar to come in from either side and set the area so if you prefer it at the bottom you can do that :)

You can also make it scrollable and have your recently launched apps appear too, I prefer to keep it minimal with my most used apps and the ones I most likely to need to jump to if I'm doing something else :)

Classic Apple RDF at work, if it isn't Apple made, it is a turd now.

I don't think that's what he meant at all. I believe he was stating that if the outside is going to look finely jeweled, like the HTC One, they would want the inside to look the same way - even if most people will never see it.

Geez, the level of automatic Apple bashing is beyond ridiculous lately. And I'm an Android user as well (VZW GS3 running LiquidSmooth).

The only company? That's quite a big statement...
