I noticed a lot of websites when they were reporting about HTC One availability said it would ship April 19th, even though HTC themselves said it'd be available the 18th.

The scary thing is that it doesn't even seem "available" on their own website. Everything still says "pre-order". And all our order status still says "pre ordered" and "backordered" (together) and "Not in stock yet".

Is this the start of HTC's final demise?

That's the problem with buying from small manufacturer. The distribution system is just not efficient.
I'm not going to stress over this and hopefully they ship it by tomorrow.

Everyone (especially past HTC owners) has every right to be wary of HTC. There is no denying that.

HTC will have to prove themselves this year with updates, with their customer service, with their delivery of products, and more.

Time will tell. I don't blame anyone for not giving HTC the benefit of the doubt.

If it wasn't for their insane value for the 64GB unlocked developer's edition ($550 after the blackberry-rebate! No tax, free shipping, no restocking fee if I should change my mind!) I don't think I would have gotten it either.

Thanks for not accusing me of trolling for doubting god's phone manufacturer, HTC :p

also, if you guys remember, a lot of people got their iPhone 5s without the tracking ever being updated. So, don't worry just yet.

I'm on the phone with them to find out what's going on. Don't expect a real answer, though.

Boy, I really like the waiting music they use. Makes waiting on hold almost enjoyable. (Being serious). It's a pleasant melody.

You and hundreds of people from xda calling about the same issue Letstalk is having a real good day today. I hope bombarding calls will not delay the shipping even further.

Lady I spoke with sounded very competent if that's worth anything.

She said devices are arriving tomorrow and will ship tomorrow especially if you ordered early (ie. closer to the first day).

She also confirmed the overnight shipping is free. Hooray.

Hopefully all plays out true...

Generally speaking, what are the folks at XDA reporting when they call?

They're getting similar responses but some people are upgrading to Saturday delivery with $10 extra if they ship tomorrow.
My shipping is still 2-day not sure why some got free overnight. Did you enter some kind of coupon when you placed order? It probably doesn't matter since it's still going to be next week.
Here is something to entertain yourself while we wait...

If their support and build quality is better than it was before I think they can do great

Anyone here had any issues if you have gotten the One yet when it comes to its build quality? I see on XDA there are multiple people who have had 2-3 replacement Ones then just gave up and ordered a GS4 instead.

The phone just came out yesterday with carrier. I'd take those comments with grain of salt. Maybe Samsung paying them to write negative comments.

I've been telling people all along HTC has shoddy build quality lately.

Is there any word from HTC on when they'll update the "back button as menu button" option that's missing? What an oversight. Again, HTC can't afford slipups like these.

But they can save themselves with this one by just sending that update.

I'm reading that the menu button is in a lot of apps (even games) and it's horrific.

Ugh, and again... can't help looking at the stupid reconfiguration of the home buttons as the reason for this wholly unnecessary issue that they created for themselves.

Seriously, you have to ask yourself, what do you stand to gain by reconfiguring the home and back button ? What do you stand to gain? The only thing I can think of is a place for your logo. And that's a very poor reason.

Really trying to decide between this and the iPhone 5. The fact that the iPhone 5 has been out for so long just eats at me; but I know that's my inner tech geek talking. I'd be perfectly happy with the 5 whereas this would be a gamble.

The famous question: What would you guys do? ;)

And no, waiting isn't an option. I'm getting on my Dad's family plan and will be going away for a while after that.

+ I'm probably technically savvy enough to root to a clean Android install, if that's recommended. Does everything work fine and smooth with that?

I would make sure return policy is clear and then try the One and return it if you don't like it.

Very good advice. I was sure to look into this myself before ordering.

14 day return policy from activation or in the case of the unlocked and developer's edition from the day you receive the device.

No restocking free.

Free return shipping (they generate the UPS label and you just print it). Just save the shipping box it came in.

100% money back if it's within the 14 days. And you have 30 days for an exchange.

I've been telling people all along to watch what lives under bridges before they cross.

My one is perfect, no imperfections what so ever.

There is always going to be some issues with a few phones, look at every launch of every phone and go into forums and you will get the same thing, whether is iPads, iPhones, galaxy tablets etc....

What you have to remember is that a lot of these stories from folks who had to get 69 of them and wait for a gs4 instead, are probably trolling for reactions and they never had the phone in the first place. It always conspicuous when folks who post these things tend to be newbies to any particular forum, or they make one post in that section where every other post has been in the section they are now claiming they have decided to hold out for....

Also if 20 people post on a forum of problems, what you must realise there are thousands without, it's how customer services deal with people and sort out their returns.

But you only have to look at this site every time a new iDevice is released to see the same claims repeated ad-nauseum. I suspect only a small minority of them claiming defective devices are genuine, and further still they do not represent the vast majority of users with perfect devices.

C'mon now.....if you keep posting things like that.....people are going to accuse you of making sense......

Well, though I'm a bit dissappointed, can't say I'm really surprised by this update. :(

HTC is really shooting themselves in the foot with this launch.
