Is the double dip case free with a pre-order, or just free with the dev editions, or free regardless?

I don't see a double dip case in my order. I'm okay with that. I plan to use it naked (with screen protector) anyway.

I already bought a really nice pouch off Etsy. And people think I don't want the HTC One. =]

Ahh ok - i read in that article that the "free" cases were delayed - didn't know what type or pre-order or purchase triggered a free case.

Not that I want one - quite frankly, I won't use a case when I eventually get my HTC One (September).

Me too. They'll do their best to get it before end of April, says the email.

So even closer to the S4 release. Shooting themselves in the foot, indeed.

I wonder if that is just for the developer edition? They should be in the stores today....

Only the Dev edition got delayed. Most Att stores have them in stock. I'm itching to get one from them but I had carrier branding.

For people who have the One, is the pesky menu bar button still there when using apps?

If so, HTC automatically loses all interest from me in favor of Samsung. The last thing I want is another smartphone forcing my hands to keep re-learning where the keyboard might appear thanks to that menu bar. Already did that with the iPhone 5 in the first three months when many of my apps were not scaled (some still aren't, but JB tweaks help), it is super annoying to see it jump up and down in different apps.

You must have been deeply involved in the early testing of the One then if you knew this before its release.

No I've based it on HTC's history.

They have had bad build quality for a while.

The original EVO was a great phone but the build quality was terribly built

Not sure about that...I had the original EVO and it was a great phone. But the battery life was horrible and the phone was heavy. But the build quality was on par with any other phone.

Please don't tell me the on-screen menu bar is always on the bottom even when you pull up the keyboard.

That... makes zero sense.

Someone in another forum mentioned it appears on top of the menu bar in Facebook, but may be they were lying...

Still, that bar turns an otherwise clean experience into a bad one for me. Never liked the bar on the One X and I am amazed HTC decided to take out the long press methods for it for the One. Guess they never learn.

Side note: What's the deal with this?

They say it was an oversight and plan to put it back in there in a future software update.

How far into that future is the real question...

I don't blame anyone for not giving HTC the benefit of the doubt. They are the ones that have to win people over. They've already made a few missteps...

*EDITED*

Scratch that - I was wrong

Looks like the M4 is simply a budget HTC phone with specs comparable to the HTC First - just with JB instead of Facebook Home.

So I'll say again - nothing to worry about as far as flagship competition.

Cool. That's actually pretty interesting stuff. It'll be good for HTC to offer current generation options.

What to do now? I can't trust Letstalk anymore, it may not even available end of the month. I don't want to get from Att with branding.

I've fixed so many charger ports that came a loose it isn't even funny.

Batteries were built poorly, headphone jack was saying phones where plugged in when they weren't, battery cover lost it's grip, huge overheating problem, that isn't good build quality.

A lot of those issues transferred over to the one x, the DROID DNA, among other HTC phones.

Also build quality isn't truly determined in just a few days, weeks, or by just holding the phone

I give at least 6 months before I try to make a determination of build quality because if stuff stops working like that, then it isn't good build quality

The answer...

Yes it is there momentarily.

But...

On pre-release software the menu option was available to assign it to a long press of the back button, however due to a bug in the retail software the menu option has been removed even though in the instruction manual tells you that its there.

So What happened?

Some digging by models looking into the official roms from HTC have discovered that on pre-release software a simple Model Identifier is in place to allow the menu option, but it looks for the pre-release model iD and not the retail iD which changed slightly. Simply changing this model iD puts it back and that's how the rom makers have put it back.

It appears to be an oversight, bug and should be restored in the next software update. Until then yes the pesky menu is there in some applications. However in most applications it isn't but that's no consolation.

So what does that mean ?

If you flash a rom you can get rid of it now, otherwise we'll likely be waiting until HTC roll out the 4.2.2 update they said would appear a month or two after launch.

Double Dip folio case.

So I picked up the leather folio style double dip case and I like it. I saw some folks say the lid was flappy and read advice that it settles down overnight if you leave your phone face down. Mine isn't flappy however, but will leave it face down this evening anyway.

It actually feels lighter on the phone than the double dip plastic case, and the device looks better because your not covering up the aluminium speaker grills. I like the red felt on the inside too, used with a red desktop wallpaper it looks quite eye catching.

disagree

The original evo is still in people's hand today with no case so it's pretty durable but yes the charging port crapped out many times and that was a htc flaw but durable, the phone was damn durable.
