Does anyone know how Tethering works with this device? The reason I ask is because with the iPhone (if you had it jailbroken) and used tethering, AT&T could find out and charge more to your plan.

Does anyone know if they still do that?

You can enable free tethering after unlocking the boot loader through the HTCDev site, rooting, installing recovery (CWM), and then flashing the zip in this thread on XDA:

What I'm worried about, is can they detect it? Is there a difference between tethering on the One vs the iphone that may make it undetectable?

Because I did use my iphone 4 to tether maybe a year and a half ago, and got a call from AT&T that they see I was tethering and if I didn't cease I'd be moved off my unlimited data plan, to which I could not return. Rather than risk that, I quit tethering.

I'm not sure how they detect it, but I don't think it has anything to do with using insane amounts of data. My data use was pretty consistent from month-to-month, and I was only tethering occasionally to surf the web when in public on my laptop or wifi only tablet.

Now I have an HTC One, and wondering if there is anything about tethering that makes it undetectable or different from my previous iphone tethering.

I had a Galaxy S3 for the past year and used a similar method and I never once got a notice. I used it to tether my macbook, ultrabook, ipad, and other wireless devices with no problems. Nothings guaranteed though...

HTC One is easily the sexiest phone on the market. Looks like iPhone just got officially trumped!

Makes me HTC One S look pretty tame now. Oh well. I'd prefer the 'mini' version of the One though, the 4.3". Not a fan of gigantic phones.

I can't stress how important it is for HTC to fix the damn Home button glitch.

So not only is the Home button located in a stupid place, it sometimes doesn't work! (Ditto the back button for sometimes not working).

And it's not from any screen protector or anything because it happens during specific stretches for like 20 seconds, then is fine again for the next day or two. Then again, randomly, a 20 or so second glitch where the home button is utterly unusable. Can't tap, can't hold. Neither is the cause from "missing" the small touch points or lack of sensitivity, because how in the world can someone "miss" the home button when one is continuously pressing it for 20 seconds trying to get it to respond?

There is something deeper with the OS or something. And HTC needs to address it ASAP. It's extremely frustrating when you really need to do something important on your phone and you can't press the home button to navigate. This just happened to me moments ago. It was infuriating. A basic function like the Home button has to work reliably.

It's a new phone that was just released, so fine, there will be glitches as there inevitably are with all phone launches, but my patience for this particular glitch is wearing thin.

This is also what I would like to know. If there is no way for them to detect it, that would be great.

Any Developer Edition owners rooting their device?

I'm interested but a bit wary... Especially since I can't find instructions on how to unroot on a Mac.

I likely will eventually but I'm going to let the developing community have at it for a while. And yeah, I also want to wait until there are confirmed instructions on how to unroot the device (via mac)--was a bit more difficult on my Note 2 than on the Nexus 4.

The biggest reason for rooting, flashing ROMs on the Note 2 was to get a slimmed down version of TouchWiz without all the carrier/Samsung bloat. I did the same with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, well frankly, just because I could (really liked Paranoid Android and the PIE controls) and wanted to experiment. The only reason I'd consider doing it on the One is to add better gesture controls and activate the HTC logo as a button but right now, I'm satisfied using it stock with Nova Prime.

Yeah, I'll admit that Nova launcher makes things a lot better. The One is a very enjoyable phone except for a few hiccups by HTC that I think 4.2.2 can solve.

I mainly want to flash for gesture and the HTC Logo usage, too. Keep us posted if you do.

I agree. The latest update from HTC is supposed to fix this. It's much worse with a screen protector. I still have my Zagg HD on it but am waiting to see if the update solves this problem. If not I will cut the screen protector so it doesn't cover the home and back buttons.

Hey All

Been following the thread closely for a while now and finally was convinced to jump today. The phone is awesome, the screen is the best I've ever seen.

I am having an issue though and don't recall it being discussed here. I came from the iphone 5 and for the life of me cannot get iPhones texting me to stop trying to iMessage me. I have went to my profile page and unregistered my product on apple, I have went into iTunes and taken my iphone off of my cloud devices, I have signed into my iMessage on my wife's iphone and turned off iMessage and signed back out.......all with no success. Anyone else having this problem and found a solution?

Apple's last attempt to keep me in the walled garden is a tricky one that I can't figure out.

Turn off imessage in all apple devices. IPhone..iPad etc... It sounds like this is your problem. I switch from android to my iPhone all the time and have to make sure that I log off all devices with imessage. Go to settings then message and turn off imessage on all iPhones and iPods etc...

I assure you, if you're truly experiencing the same problems I am with the capacitive buttons being unresponsive, it has nothing to do with the screen protector.

If it did, it would consistently and constantly have trouble responding (since your screen protector doesn't change in any way, shape, or form).

It's a software glitch.

Make sure people are texting you to your number and not your apple id, it won't matter what you do as long as people keep texting your apple id.

?
.

It is fixed in the newer software update we got. Hopefully it will get pushed to your device soon. Sometimes manually checking for the update is better than just waiting for te push, so don't forget to check that too.

The chances are people are iMessaging you not on your telephone number which will now be clear but to your appleID / email address. If they do that then any remaining device you can get iMessage on will recieve the message.

They are not sms'ing you.

Doh.. Got there before me.

Camera is better on my new model

Camera seems to be better. To the point where i'm more content in my decision to keep the HTC One :)

Did you turn off iMessage on your iPhone before switching? This is a fairly well documented problem and one I experienced the first time I switched to an Android device. If you don't turn off iMessage on the iPhone associated with your mobile number before switching, Apples servers still see it as active. Once you've done that, you then need to removed your phone number from iMessage on any other Apple device you were using (iPad, iPod, Mac computer). Once you removed your phone number from the iMessage preferences on each of these devices, shut off iMessage and when you turn it back on and it reactivates, your phone number should be gone.

Looks very good. None of that washed-out look that some of the previous photos you posted had.

Yep agreed.. Definitely a big improvement, clearly it wasn't just software alone that was a problem with my last phone but the lens itself.

Sure it's not going to make up the pixel deficit (compared to the S4) but it means I'm going to be happy snapping for my friends (social media) and my phone wallpapers :)

Your photos are very interesting and I'm stealing your dog haha

macros are very good with the one, video is good with the optical image stabilizator.

just dont do landscape shots with it, will look horrible.

i also found that reducing the size to 75 % helps with the noise. you end up with smallish pictures though.

oh, and the camera is obviously better in low light than the others, but not to the point that you dont need a flash, as pictures are brighter but als pretty noisy and soft.

caera flash seems good.

Yep landscape shots really require the extra pixels simply because the detail your capturing is in the distance and out of normal focal length.

For macro and regular shots its grand. But yeah landscapes / seascapes where your trying to capture distant objects will require more pixels and the one just doesn't have them.

Here are some more of mine today.
