The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming

Apple is skipping haswell for broadwell when introducing the next gen Mini. The smaller die size and lower consumption means they would be able to fit a quad core i7 equivalent with iris pro.

They need to do this if they want to stay within the 45w tdp design limit of the case and cooling solution.

"Almost 2014" in this context means they may (or "almost certainly will" if you prefer) update the mini some time in the 2013-2015 time frame.

I just checked bestbuy.ca and futureshop.ca and there are a few models of mac mini I have not seen listed before .I just looked at them quickly and it seems they have 3rd gen processors but with options for more RAM ,a fusion drive or a SSD .The prices are higher and there doesn't seem to be much new other than the options I listed before. Don't know when they will be available.

I'm kind of at that point as I bought a nMP instead (yes, I'm THAT guy), but I'm just interested to see what does happen. After all I still like toys.

The next on the list for me is the replacement for the thunderbolt display, if one comes out. Failing that I'll be looking at a display from Eizo when they have a 4k option.

I had a dream about the new Mac Mini last night. The optical drive is back, in fact the case itself was beige and similar in shape to an old CD-ROM drive for mounting in a 5.25" bay. It also has blue and red stripes around the optical disc tray door. Noise-wise, it didn't really sound like a jet plane... more like a formula one car.
