Did we break this thread with too many posts? I'm seeing page 200, but I can't go to it.. :-(

Looks like there's an off-by-one error. It shows the next page one post before there is anything on it.

In any case, to return to the topic, I'm a bit disappointed, too.

In January 2013, for $750, I bought the quad core i7. I spent $110 to upgrade to 16GB RAM, and three months later, I bought a 1TB SSD for $570, bringing my total to $1430 to max out the performance of this mini.

Today, I can spend $1200 to get the dual core i7 (performance difference to be seen), and the max of 16GB of RAM in order to get two things... very slightly better graphics, and an M.2 NGFF SSD slot (which enables you to get an SSD that is twice as fast as the fastest SATA SSD on the market).

I'm all excited about that M.2 slot, but $1200 to get it? If there was discrete graphics, I'd be thrilled. If there was a quad core i7 with Iris Pro graphics, I wouldn't be as thrilled, but I'd at least feel better about it. Lacking either of those, like many others in this thread, I will be skipping this cycle, and waiting/hoping we get a refresh next year, and not three years out. If there's not a refresh next year, I will be abandoning my Mac...

Edit to add:
I also spent $400 on a 4k Seiki 39" screen which this mini handles with a driver patch. The new mini doesn't even have HDMI2, so it is also limited to 4k@30Hz, and not 4k@60Hz... So there's not really much upgrade available in the new machine

I have owned every model since 2006 I may skip these.
I am in the spot of owning 3 right now a 2011 with discrete gpu a 2012 base and a 2012 quad all have 16gb
I run them with external t-bolt ssd's. I would like that flash drive but I am eyeing a sony 4k tv and these models are meh for that.

Next year is our year for Broadwell and it will bring 4k 60hz. Keep the faith. Also HDMI2, h.265 codex and the latest gen of USB and DP.

We will still get charged the Apple tax for soldered ram and flash storage but we should have some decent CPUs and integrated graphics. :)

OMG will it ever end? Apple can piss all over its flock and some of them will just keep waiting until next year. Wow.

The answer is so simple. Apple just needs an in between computer. Real 2014 power, $1500. Done. Of course, it has to be small, beautiful, silent, fast.

And I really do not care if they solder the Ram or not. Just make Ram prices REASONABLE.

Have Timmy call me if he has any questions.

If they were to ever do such a thing I wonder how they would go about it because Apple isn't keen on too many products in a computer class.

For example there is the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro for Laptops, iMac for all-in-ones and Mini and Mac Pro for desktops. Considering desktops are at the bottom of the barrel I don't see a shot in hell they introduce a third separate desktop Mac.

If there ever was to be a $1500 Mac it's either a Mini with high end Macbook Pro internals or a Mac Pro stripped down with much cheaper mid-level iMac type internals(quad-core Intel Core i5/NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M). Apple has been moving away from any midlevel solution so can't expect it to happened anytime soon.

If it were not for dreams, this thread would never have existed. Hold on! I think that is Mr. Cookie calling me now to find out how to run his business.

I would like to take this moment to remind everyone to go back and VOTE UP the post that got this thread started. It's sitting at a very modest three upvotes right now. We should all be ashamed for not getting it higher!

Sorted!

2.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz)
16GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel Iris Graphics
$1499

*laughs/cries*

Silence and speed are much appreciated, but are you really bothered about the small/beautiful stuff? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, obviously, but I'm starting to think that the ever-decreasing size of Apple computers is simply a plot to justify the lack of user serviceability.

Are mini users crying out for a smaller footprint?

Do iMac and MBA users value thinness/lightness over user upgradability?

Were Mac Pro users dancing in the streets when told they'd have to buy external enclosures for their PCI card collections?

No way! As long as we get fewer cores inside, we are happy with keeping the same footprint!
Heh. I'd have been less unhappy if the memory/disk arrangement had stayed the same. If that had been the case then the 2014 still wouldn't have represented an 'upgrade', but would have given users a much easier choice between the CPU-centric 2012 and the GPU-centric new model.

But life would be so much more pleasant if Apple would simply sell you a nice roomy $199 iBox complete with power supply and three or four 3.5" drive bays, then you get to mix'n'match CPU/GPU/memory/storage as you want. And that includes buying a 'zero slash zero' config where you bring your own memory/storage.

It's been way too long since they discontinued the IIci.

:(

Apple should have just released a 399 base mini and price drop the 2012 models. Wait for broadwell to give power users s better option. Downgraded specs was dirty!!

Small is practical. I like desk space. And would not ever again consider putting a computer on the dusty floor. Yes, desk is dusty too, but not as muhc.

And as per the beauty, that I just put in there. Do not care much as long as it is not fluorescent pink I am OK :)

"I'm all excited about that M.2 slot, but $1200 to get it?". I agree. However, is that slot upgradeable and does the SSD that comes with take advantage of its speed, or is that an upgrade (assuming that it is user upgradeable and not soldered)? If the former, I will most likely get the new mini.

Because I have always liked snappiness with my computers. Not proud of it, but I just love when things really SNAP open, even the big stuff like Outlook and Adobe :)

You know you're really supposed to mention Safari in this context, don't you?

I would take it in pink if it had an i7 with a discrete gpu and was 1 inch taller with a power brick. while we are at it I would not mind if it was soldered ram and soldered pcie only ssd. It could even cost 1500.

I am back to imacs with screens I don't need or nMP with a second gpu I don't need.

I am considering a class action lawsuit from vision challenged people such as my self. (double cataract surgery). The best screens for me are large tv screens. 4k sony tvs make great monitor for me. Apple forces me to buy a nMP to drive it. I would like to buy a downgraded nMP with 1 lessor gpu .

I wonder if a lot of people like myself had sued them over the smaller iphones and this issue if they would bend. The iPhone 6 + is finally big enough for my eyes. so I could get that , but I stayed out of phones for years and have now just said f- it while waiting .

I am not going to buy a nMP 3k for features I don't need is a no go.

I do have a really good pc running windows 7.
I will rebuild my 2012 mini add parallels and windows 7 and leave it at that.

So basically Apple is losing a guy with that can and has spent 5k a year on pc's. Yeah I am 50 years old plus a few not rich but I can spend decent money and do spend it. I just can't see spending on gear I don't need : iMacs or nMP's or Macbook Pros have a long list of features i don't need

iPhones that are too small (until the plus) how many years for that to come out?

or mac mini's that don't cut it. oh well.

LOL! No I actually did not know that. Being a relatively new user, coming over from 20 years on Windows, I just have always used Firefox :)

I did hear though that Safari on Yosemite is a fair bit improved. I am a pretty hard core FF fan. But hope that is true for those who use it.
