Well, here's a toast to the last 5000 posts, and hoping there's another 5000. Maybe by then the new Mac Mini (anyone might want) will certainly be coming :p

Now let's see if we can get this sucker to 1,000,000 views! :)

BTW, I wonder if the OP ever visits this epic thread they started?!

5000 suckers. Bought mine. Comes at the end of the month

You beat me to it

The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming

Hi,

I work in a Macrumors Thread and like many of you i'm waiting for the next mini 2014 refresh.

From thursday the Mac mini models are suddenly and completely underwhelming and nobody likes them. I know that this happen from time to time, but the timing is no coincidence.

Trust me, a new mini is coming next week, or at least we have solid evidence to believe it.

LOL. There's certainly some truth in your post... Not sure which part exactly :p

LOL! No I actually did not know that. Being a relatively new user, coming over from 20 years on Windows, I just have always used Firefox :)

I did hear though that Safari on Yosemite is a fair bit improved. I am a pretty hard core FF fan. But hope that is true for those who use it.

loop error occurs on every 25th post

However, it did not happen on post #5000. I saw it with my own eyes, the 25th post of the page, numbered #5000, and no link to page 201, until after post #5001 was written.

I'm sure this means something, but I don't know what. I will need at least another 25-50 posts to figure it out.

Ew, Firefox has been crap for years. Did they ever fix those crazy memory errors? I remember having them as far back as 1.5.

To be sure….

As soon as a new Mac Mini is released, the (next) new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming

The way apple chose to buy time for intel is discouraging. OTOH, the soldered mini thread hit 1000 posts in under 36 hours. It may be drawing in people put off by the general transition away from upgradability but I can't remember the last time I saw this much passion for a Mac thread. And for the mini!

BTW, were their an 'xmac' model in between the mini and pro, the mini would not be asked to do so much and the loss of the quad would not matter.

Yeh, BAD APPLE.

Next year is our year for Broadwell and it will bring 4k 60hz. Keep the faith. Also HDMI2, h.265 codex and the latest gen of USB and DP.

We will still get charged the Apple tax for soldered ram and flash storage but we should have some decent CPUs and integrated graphics. :)
This is what I am hoping for, I can wait another year. I've looked at the various configs and I can't justify this Mini upgrade so unless my machine dies I'll wait

I'll be in the NY store next week for an iPad and I'll check to see if they have Minis in yet and post here.

@Virtual, congrats on the 5000 !

I'm just going to hold on to my 2012 until the IGPU supports H.265 and has the HDMI 2.0 for 4K TV support.

The 2012 does 1080P fine and I mostly use my Mini for HTPC. The new Mini will not improve that from what I have.

It works for me all day every day :)

I like the NYC store, I have been there!

Agreed. I was a Firefox fan for a while but it became very buggy for me so I switched to chrome. Now that Safari has much of the same functionality of chrome, I may switch to safari.

Now that the Haswell mini update with soldered RAM, minus Firewire 800 and neutered CPU has arrived (similar to the features that many mini users including me predicted here for the last two years). How about if we recycle this thread into the "real mini update" the Broadwell mini that is "almost certainly coming" in 2015?

It is a fine machine as soon as you throw an SSD into it.

Agree... If you need raw processing power and have the software to utilize it then the 2012 i7 quad core Mini is the way to go. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the return of quad core on the higher end model(s) with the Broadwell mini update. I like the GPU improvement but it's still too bad about the switch to non-upgradeable RAM.

The new Mac mini with Iris 5100 graphics should support a 4K monitor at 52Hz, just like the 13" MacBook Pro with Iris 5100 graphics, via Displayport over Thunderbolt.

Need HDMI2.0 to run 4K TV ...

Nope. Use Displayport not HDMI. It's confirmed to work on a 13" Haswell MacBook Pro and the new mini (except the base model) use the same graphics and the same Displayport over Thunderbolt 2 interface.

Will not happen on a 4k TV. No display port. Need HDMI 2.0 for 60 HZ refresh.

It will work on a 4K display that has display port.

My Mac Mini (Mid 2011 model) died during the last 2 weeks of February (2014) and I have been waiting for a new Mac Mini model to arrive since then. In the meantime I have been using my gaming PC as my main computer. When I had my Mac Mini (Mid 2011), I've always said I wanted my next Mac Mini to have a quad-core CPU, even though the dual-core i7 in my Mac Mini (Mid 2011) was fine for me (Mac Mini was used for surfing, checking my mail, playing music, photo editing and running a VM now and then).

Now that I've seen which horrible move Apple made with the latest Mac Mini models (no quad-core CPU), I'm not really tempted to buy a new Mac Mini/Apple computer anymore (even though I want to play with Yosemite). In a way I'm still terribly angry at Apple, but at the same time I don't give a ***** anymore. My gaming PC will probably stay my main computer for a while now (even though I hate its noise). Somewhere I hope there will be Broadwell Mac Mini's around June/July 2015, but seeing how much love Apple is giving to the Mac Mini's, it will probably take another 2 years before they update the Mac Mini again...

I'm out for that. After this update I'm certainly not waiting for another mac. Now it's a Broadwell windows box for me. i7 quad core K-series processor.
