I fear that the Mini will become the "headphone jack" of Apple's computer line. Something that they do away with in spite of user protests.
They have certainly proven in the past they are not afraid to do so. Or should I say, courageous.

More like they need a mob of Mac users to storm the Apple campus and throw everyone out of the break room and stand over them while forcing them to produce a new machine.

A microphone on the front is possible if Apple really do believe in Siri for the desktop.
I'll go with it will have USB-C for power/mains.
There will be four other USB-C ports (including Thunderbolt) - no USB-A - there will be one HDMI but no SD card slot.

I have a late 2012 MacMini which I added an SSD and 16GB RAM and runs perfectly as of today. I can't wait for my next computer to be a Hackintosh with all legacy ports and buttons. It's gonna be a Frankenstein of a powerful machine
A stripped down Apple TV 3 running Sierra Lite.
That's why they discontinued the Apple TV 3. Takes time to paint them silver and install Sierra Lite.
This is now all tied in to what new monitor Apple comes out with. I assume that it would have a USB-C connector which would give power to laptops in addition to Thunderbolt/DisplayPort. All of their recent monitors have built-in webcam, microphone, and speakers so Siri will work.
And, of course, the Mac Pro needs to be upgraded at the same time.

So Gigabyte refreshes their Brix with Kaby Lake ranging from i3 to i7! No reason why Mac Mini can't have Kaby Lake then

I mainly want a quad core CPU with decent graphics !
LOL It's a square box. Not saying that's bad but it would give Jonny Ive a nervous twitch!
If that ran OS X that'd be a great little box, I mean sure I'd love a quad core with iris graphics and built in power supply, but I'd totally be happy with that especially with the expandable storage and memory.
I know right? But the point is a Mac Mini compatible Kaby Lake is out in the wild which is good news
That's the 15w CPU that would be ideal for the Macbook Air. The graphics are not Iris Graphics but Apple have already gone down the retina route with the Macbook which has even weaker graphics with the 4.5w Core M processors. I expect economies of scale could mean Apple get a good deal by consolidating lines so if they do downgrade the CPU that they compromise by reducing heat or price. And with rumours suggesting the MBA will be refreshed perhaps we might see a lot of this next CPU.
Obviously there's already a Kaby Lake version of the Macbook CPU that would fit it nicely too.

You have to remember this thread was started in Dec 2013, the last update was Oct 2014.

An inside source (my dog) tells me that Apple's goal is to go 1000 days without updating it. It's a competition between Mac Pro and Mac Mini teams: who can do nothing longer without Tim Cook noticing?
Give credit where it's due…. the MacBook Air is also running in this race. The last "update" was to give the base 13" model 8gb instead of 4gb RAM while making no change to the 11" MBA.
Using the broadest sense of "update", this is true.
I view that update more like Apple said: "oops, we forgot to take away this, and this, and this, and oh yeah, it needs to be slower also."
