Well I don't really go along with that. In a way, I feel kind of the opposite… why do we need a new version of MacOS every year? Do they even have time to fix the bugs in each version? I just want a stable and fast operating system where all my expensive software doesn't become obsolete every couple years.
Hmm. I'm in the process of transitioning all my work back to Linux, and I've gotta say, there's something to be said for an OS that receives consistent attention and upgrades. I have no trouble throwing all sorts of ancient and modern hardware at the OS; drivers are constantly being added and improved. All the legacy open-source applications I used are still there (and still supported), while all sorts of commercial apps are now finding their way onto the platform. Heck, it's even starting to turn into a high-end gaming OS.
So here's my problem -- I like OS X. I like the beautiful, usable UI. But man, it just doesn't run on the hardware I want to use. And it isn't sufficiently better than Linux anymore to make me pay the price of the inflexible, unwieldy, over-expensive hardware I have to purchase in order to use it.
