Isn't there usually a leak a few days before the Tuesday they're about to release an updated product? There was on Sept. 18th before the Sept. 24th MBP update...

I really want SOMETHING/ANYTHING to happen tomorrow as I sold my mini :( yesterday... but it's too quiet me thinks...

Bought my mini last August thinking there would for sure be an update in the next couple months. Surprised to see there hasn't been. But a little happy that my mini is still current in value. ;)

If there is one thing I would like to see upgraded, it's a dedicated GPU. Something as powerful as the iMacs come with or moreso. Something that could drive dual 4K displays and provide hardware support for NLE software like Premiere Pro. I do video editing on my mini and I can't afford a Mac Pro.

I couldn't wait any longer. I ordered the current i5 2.5 ghz dual core with SSD and 16 ram. I've had it for a few days now and this thing is super fast. I don't game so this model is fine for me. I am coming from windows XP with a 2.6 dual core pentium processor 4GB ram DDR2 with a 7200 rpm drive, I bought back in 2007. It still worked fine but ram was maxed out and just not sufficient for today and with XP going away next month had to make a choice.

I am very happy with the 2012 mac mini i5, it's super quiet, I can't get over how fast and fluid it is, iTunes opens in about 2 seconds compared to my windows which took 15-20. I used migration assistant which worked perfectly and brought over all my itunes, documents, pictures and videos. The only glitch I had was at first Migration Assit was not working and come to find out my Norton on my XP system was preventing it so I disabled it but that still wouldn't work, I had to literally uninstall Norton then it all worked perfectly. I can even use Chrome on my Mac and it kept all my bookmarks.

I am really happy and still getting use to how it all works but it won't take long since I'm a long time PC user. I'd like to get Office for Mac 2011 but I heard a new version is coming and wonder if I should wait.

Thanks to everyone on this thread who helped me make my decision.
Ok, now apple will release the new one, tomorrow is Tues after all....

Congrats, glad to hear it's fast as I went with the same exact setup. I got a bad unit last week (ethernet port was DOA) so hopefully this week I'll get the new one. If it releases tomorrow when I just returned the other one today for the replacement I'll consider myself super lucky but chances are it won't as I'm not that lucky. :)

Thanks, even though it's 2 yrs old, it's still 5 yrs newer than what I had so I can tell it's a huge jump in performance. I ordered a refurb Time Capsule 2TB and an apple usb keyboard so excited to get those soon. I soon found out that 4 USB ports on the back is not enough so I went to best buy and got a USB 3.0 hub to add 4 more slots, works perfectly. I saved money by keeping my own monitor which still works great. I don't mind if the new one appears soon, this one is working better than I could have imagined and will do me fine for many years to come.

Hopefully your right, I'm just hoping it doesn't slip all the way to the fall update round.

So, with all this talk does anybody know where is a good place online/BM to score the cheapest current gen mac mini? If I had to do it today it would be macmall. They don't charge tax, and my experience (three machines and counting) has been positive. I wouldn't mind the current gen mac mini, but I would prefer not having to pay the same price as they were when they first came out.

I thought macmall was the cheapest but i went with B&H since no tax, same great prices, and a free copy of parallels.

Well, there was a wee leak before the dreaming.

And now, for a great start to Tuesday, if it matters.

Thanks, yea B&H is not bad, although my previous shopping experience has not be as positive as I would like. I guess the best way to go about it is to maybe score a refurbished one. I think it might be the safest and easiest way to go about it.

I think a late 2014 Haswell refresh wouldn't make a lick of sense when a few months later in 2015, Broadwell will be available along with the latest generation of Nvidia mobile dGPUs for those who want to pay for the upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple felt the same way.

If you want Haswell with HD 5000 or Iris/IrisPro, buy a current gen Macbook Air or MacBook Pro. I'm not super impressed with Iris graphics on my 2013 Macbook Pro, but at least I have the ability to run a 4K display with 2x TB2 ports in theory. My 2.6 quad 2012 MacMini still outperforms it in CPU intensive tasks like a Handbrake DVD rip.

a new processor is always around the corner and in any case, they rarely update the mini with the very latest. I suspect if they redesign, they'll wait to release it in june with the macbook air refresh and then wait until well into broadwell to update it again (perhaps june-october 2015). Then again.. what do i know? Just basing this on previous mini releases.

The problem is that there isn't a new processor around the corner. It's over a year away, and they'll make more money putting those refreshed Haswell mobile processors in MacBooks than they will in MacMinis. They could've easily put Haswell in the MacMini last year or early this year, but they didn't, so that tells me they are either EOL'ing the MacMini or redesigning it to include Broadwell due to Intel's production issues.

Keep in mind all you get with Haswell is reduced power consumption and heat emission. Iris graphics aren't much better than HD 4000. Ivy Bridge in the MacMini for as long as buyers keep buying them keeps the MacMini profitable for Apple because those processors are super cheap right now and the performance is pretty good (except graphics, which will only improve if they offer a dGPU upgrade like the rMBP 15"). Haswell is great for MacBooks, but a meh upgrade for a desktop -- certainly not enough to justify turning a very profitable line into one that barely makes a profit because the new version Haswells are significantly more expensive.

Which would a current MacMini owner jump to buy: a redesigned Broadwell MacMini in early 2015, or a refreshed Haswell MacMini in late 2014? Quite possibly, the difference may come down to three to four months, so I personally wouldn't bite on Haswell, and I own a Late 2012 2.6 quad MacMini. I wouldn't think twice about pre-ordering a redesigned Broadwell with a dGPU upgrade option because that will have enough to power a 4k display without significant stutter. I'd also pay more for an upgraded Fusion drive option that has a faster 256 SSD instead of the 128 SSD I currently have.

If a Haswell MacMini appeared next Tuesday, I'd venture to guess the majority of people in the market for one, will jump on it asap.

You are simply assuming way too much. Apple has not updated this product line very frequently. If there is a Broadwell MacMini in the pipeline, it might very well appear late 2015 or even 2016.
