Looks like no Broadwell until fourth quarter this year at the earliest, possibly not until 2015.

What does this mean for the Mini?

In earlier posts, I remarked that Apple -might- have been redesigning the Mini for Haswell, but at some point concluded that Haswell wouldn't constitute enough of an "update", so the designers chose to wait for Broadwell.

But this was -before- the "Broadwell delay" was announced by Intel.

Now, Apple's designers are left a bit in the lurch. Their options are:
1. Put a Mini re-design onto the shelf until Broadwell becomes reality, or...
2. GO BACK to their earlier "Haswell re-design" and try to get that to market.

As others have mentioned, the current Mini sells "well enough", and runs just fine for current OS releases. The longer they postpone a new release, the more they recover their "capital investment" on the late-2012 design. And again, it remains a decent (though not spectacular) seller.

We'll see...

IMO the smart thing for Apple to do if they keep the Mini in the Mac line up is to wait for Broadwell since Haswell is a small bump with little improvement in IGPU.

Broadwell will offer Iris Pro in the complete line of processors which will make for a Mini that will last for another 2 year cycle.

Well see...

I would agree if Intel was going to flood the market with broadwell chips, but even though a large portion of those will go to apple, apple will use this first in their laptop lines, then in the mac mini. Since the updated haswell has the same configuration as broadwell, they could update the mini with haswell now and a year from now, do another update with broadwell without too much hassle.

Everyone seems to be assuming that the apple will put the latest in the mini, but I don't think that's been the history of the mac mini.

Yeh, No, it probably wouldn't.

I'm still worried about talk of that cheaper IMac and what Apple may have in mind.

If they want to supply Aisa and China with cheaper Mac's then why not the Mini that a cheap display and keyboard could be used.

I would be seriously surprised if the order didn't go like this:

- Air
- Pro
- iMac
- Mini

and probably that mystery 12" "tweener" device somewhere before the iMac get's them.

Hoping for anything else is delusional at best.
I'm actually happy for every day I don't have to read that they've abandoned the Mini.

Phil Schiller put it best when he said "Almost everybody at Apple is working on the iPhone" - they probably make more money with the cheapest bumpers than with the Mini.

I think your pretty much right except I can see that 12" mystery MB get it first only because it is suppose to be fanless.

The thing is how could Apple make the iMac cheaper and still have it an iMac and an upgrade from their current offerings?

Tuesday is coming

It's already here, where I am ... still no new Mac mini.

Tuesday is nearly done where I'm at….

But it's still coming, and will continue to do so at regular intervals.

Unlike new Mac Minis, which come at irregular intervals.

And just to brighten up you day, a photo taken today of a new shop a few doors away from iBeat, the Apple shop in a nearby mall. No prize for guessing the name of the shop.

Apple has just updated OS X to Mavericks. Could that mean that a new Mini is coming? :)

Probably not. It didn't happen when Mavericks was released and I doubt this will change anything. Now if that Server software doesn't support the current Mini, then you might have a reason to be optimistic.

I have just noticed that on Mars, they have discovered water. Do you think that means a refresh for the mini will be announced today? I am quite sure it does.

Unless the water is hot water. Then no. But if it is cold water, then YES, a new mini!

I love this thread!

Well we all keep hoping. However I suspect that the minis on its way out. Hopefully not to be replaced by a cheap imac like machine. However I don't mind being proved wrong.
