Looks like no Broadwell until fourth quarter this year at the earliest, possibly not until 2015.
What does this mean for the Mini?
In earlier posts, I remarked that Apple -might- have been redesigning the Mini for Haswell, but at some point concluded that Haswell wouldn't constitute enough of an "update", so the designers chose to wait for Broadwell.
But this was -before- the "Broadwell delay" was announced by Intel.
Now, Apple's designers are left a bit in the lurch. Their options are:
1. Put a Mini re-design onto the shelf until Broadwell becomes reality, or...
2. GO BACK to their earlier "Haswell re-design" and try to get that to market.
As others have mentioned, the current Mini sells "well enough", and runs just fine for current OS releases. The longer they postpone a new release, the more they recover their "capital investment" on the late-2012 design. And again, it remains a decent (though not spectacular) seller.
We'll see...
IMO the smart thing for Apple to do if they keep the Mini in the Mac line up is to wait for Broadwell since Haswell is a small bump with little improvement in IGPU.
Broadwell will offer Iris Pro in the complete line of processors which will make for a Mini that will last for another 2 year cycle.
Well see...
