I don't know... if I don't see a new Mini come this Monday, I'm gunna slit my wrists, hang myself, THEN jump off a bridge...and it will ALL be their fault.

Having managed all that, you should be able to make a video of it all and post it here for all to celebrate your martyrdom.

Nothing so extreme for me. New Mini or not, I'll just meekly continue to use my 2009 until it is no longer meets my needs, at which stage I'll either upgrade it, or replace it with whatever is currently available, whichever is most cost effective….. boring eh?

The current casing cannot be improved on and Apple should leave it well alone, unless they want to add a double/treble height Mini Maxi with expansion slots. Which they don't. Obviously.

THey actually might be able to shrink the internal power brick if they use more efficient chips.

Bugger efficiency, I want a PCIe slot!

Actually, power consumption figures are quite interesting...

The 2009 revision was a leap from the 2007, but since then the figures are pretty constant. Right now I'd sooner have all the good things that Intel can offer me, rather than shave 50c of my monthly power bill.

Wow. the suspense of it all, despite not really giving a hoot. Here sunset is just an hour away, and it is still a couple of hours until the dawn in California. Here Tuesday will indeed be arriving as the WWDC starts.

Will I be awake and partying at that momentous moment? Nah, the junta killjoys have slapped a curfew on here.

+1...there was a post in one of the desktop/notebook forums here the other day saying something to the effect of:

"Apple needs to get back to their core computer business"

As demonstrated above, Apple's computer business is far from core and hasn't been for 7+ years now.

As of last quarter computers make up 12% of Apple's revenue vs 73% for iOS. That's the gravy train and thats what their focus is on plain and simple. There was an estimate of the Mini's volume by Digitimes from ~1.5 years ago of 1.4 million units. We also know that Apple sells roughly 16 million Mac units per year so the mini is 8.75% of a 12% slice, or 1.05% of total revenue. Considering that, its obvious why the Mini has been neglected for so long.

--------------------------------

I'm not optimistic of the Mini's future but a possible scenario came into my mind the other day. When there was originally talk of moving production to the US about 2 years ago the Mini was talked about. If I remember correct Tim Cook did an interview with Brian Williams and I think it was mentioned that the Mini was the line which was going to be moved (I'm on a slow connection otherwise I'd try to find the video to verify). We all know that turned out to be the Pro but think of this:

  • Apple built a $100 million dollar facility, where the Pro is made. The Pro, as we know, has had supply issues for 6 months now. It makes no sense for Apple to build this new factory which is instantly maxed out in capacity by one of their lowest volume lines.
  • There must be additional capacity not being used while they figure out the most efficient way to operate this facility, or maybe there is capacity that is getting lined up for something else.
  • It took a while for the supply chain in the US to be prepared for the new production, as evidenced by how long before their commitment to the Pro was voiced before it actually started shipping.
  • If they do want to move some production here it makes sense to move their lower volume products, the Pro and Mini
  • The Pro and Mini, being headless, are the simplest to move because the entire display supply chain is in Asia. Processors, logic boards, cases, PSUs, etc can easily be done here.
  • There were no leaks of the new Pro at all prior to Apple's first mention, which we can probably attribute to the new production being in the US. In China we hear leaks of everything down to Apple TVs and AirPorts.
  • This would line up with the Mini having no leaks or being on any analyst roadmaps for the last 2 years because there simply is no new line or supply chain set up, just small production of the old model.

What do you guys think, is there a small glimmer of hope for a new US assembled Mini?

These are interesting thoughts! Anyway it's time for apple to comment on the future of the mac mini ...

despite the obviousness of the "D" in wwdc i was rather disappointed at not seeing anything at all... most lovingly missing the mini love in the picture (despite the logical arguments about the nMP missing as well)

I do hope that it's an indication of a redesign.... the sting of hope after all is eternal... :D

In either case though i'm happy with the 2012 mini i bought this year.... :D

no mini! guess this thread won't ever die! :)

It's had a good week with nigh on 100 posts.

Doesn't look good for the Mini. Not even pictured with the rest of the Macs.

:(

That said; no hardware at all...?

A different interpretation could be that this is due to a complete redesign.

Did anyone see the new Mac Mini we've been waiting for? No? NO? I THOUGHT SO.

So…….
