I had a few hopes that could be released today, now i hope that it comes in SEP / OCT, no expetations on earlier release.

If it is released it will make sense to do it in Sept/Oct. Summer WWDC, announce new software with Sept/Oct availability. Sept/Oct release new hardware with new software.

I would not be surprised if they release the new hardware at the same time they release 10.10. They often rely on OSX optimization for energy consumption in laptop. Intel had delays with their chips it must have impacted the delivery for WWDC.

I'll buy the next iteration, I'm not in a hurry, my iMac 2008 is still used every day even if I have a i7-3770k/16GB ram/SSD/GTX680 hackintosh.

Overall I'm totally happy with the current WWDC..

I agree. I might as well go pick up a refurb mini. This Apple Event was disappointing. Apple has gone downhill since Jobs left.:(

I guess APPLE is a software company in 2014 ...

ANYWAY: someday it must happen: Retina iMac, Retina TB display, Mac mini with decent graphics ... but 2014???

Them not announcing the exact product you wanted at a software event exactly when you were hoping for it doesn't mean the entire company is going downhill.

There were a lot of really interesting things at the keynote.

The updates to OSX and iOS were pretty spectacular. App interoperability is going to be a game changer, as are the Continuity features between OSX and iOS devices. Also, iCloud Drive for me is really great news.

So, personally, I thought the keynote was a grand slam and am very much excited about what's to come. Sorry they didn't announce the refresh you were hoping for but, to be fair, this is a software conference first and foremost.

+1 People are whiny. I wanted a new mac mini but I liked a lot of the software changes they made.

Not quite. As the last few years have shown it's all about iOS. Sure, Apple makes some really nice computers but they do not try to offer a full line. Even the Apple display is four years old and out of date. Now how much time and money do you think it would have taken to ship a TB2 / USB3 display last year? I'll chime in with "very little".

As soon as Apple's A chips are powerful enough I expect to see Intel phased out. Sealed up, pre-configured computers are what Apple is all about. Once the A10, A11 or whatever is able to run a laptop we will be offered nothing but Airs in various sizes.

It will take a little while longer to replace the iMacs but glued and sealed iMacs not much thicker than an iPad are probably already on the drawing board. If you are interested in computers per se and doing things to them then Apple is not your company. That's just the way it is right now.

After all this was wwDc (Developers), it's not really meant to showcase hardware. When it happened in the past, it was a bonus, but it really is about the software and I think a lot of very interesting things were shown today.
I for one, am more excited than I thought I would be!

Guess keeping my expectations in line with the purpose of the event did make sense and help :)

There will be a Mac mini update when there needs to be.

Minis back to 2009 run the current OS and most current software. The current Mini runs it all, and will probably be good for several software updates going ahead. That may or may not be true for Core 2 Duo (more likely the latter), which will have a bearing on whether I upgrade the 2009 I have at present, or replace it in due course, when needs arise.

For now, the current Mini remains all the computer many people need, if not the dream-machine of cash strapped geeks.

And so the thread soldiers on.

The software refresh is great and the closer convergence of apps across devices is a wonderful edition.

I think the Broadwell situation threw a wrench in the works for the Mac refresh this year.

Intel may announce something this week at Computex so maybe good news for the fall with Broadwell.

We will be lucky to get it by late october. Here is hope the mini is finally fading in amazon's top 100 list down to 13th.

that is the standing for last week. I think they update it every sunday.
it has been number one more then half of those 587 days.

this is why we wait the freakin mini still sells well.

Mostly due to usa people own 1080p screens.

This speculation saved me a ton today. Got a 2012 mini dirt cheap. People are selling them in droves hoping to dump them before the new one. Check craigslist.

I agree that the 2012 Mini "ought to be good enough for anyone" today. But if I buy a computer today I do it to run software comfortably on it in 2018-19, and the chance of that coming true would be greater on a 2014 Mini than the 2012 Mini.

Regarding Intel messing up the Broadwell timeplan, that does not change the fact that Haswell exists and Apple has chosen not to use it in the Mini.

However, I do realize that Apple has other priorities than satisfying every wish from the likes of me. The margins from selling the 2012 Mini for 2012 prices in 2014 must be pretty good. Who knows, maybe they make more money this way despite losing some customers who want current hardware.

new iMac and Mac mini must arrive soon:

I just checked again. amazon Germany is totally out of stock of iMacs and minis (since one or two months)

my theory:
1) amazon Germany sold iMacs and minis like crazy
2) so they are the first to be out of stock
3) apple doesn't ship current iMacs and minis with German keyboard and power socket to amazon.de anymore
4) at amazon.com iMacs and minis are also dried out
4) new mini and iMacs in the coming weeks ...

well, who has another explanation for this?

I thought the keynote was interesting, it makes total sense for it to be software focused and the closer integration and cloud developments I liked. I think being able to share data between aps is going to mean a lot of cool new things available on our iOS devices. The software utilities and graphics upgrades look very significant. I think no hardware announcements is as it should be, its a software conference.

On the ARM vs Intel debate, yes very interesting. If nothing else Apple can put pressure on Intel and it does make sense to have one chip family in all your devices, makes the app and OS development and integration much more straightforward.

Finally I must be getting old as it looked like half the audience must have been skipping high school to attend.
