Same. Was hoping for something starting at $1,200-$1,400 vs. $2k because I need a bigger hard drive. I was on the store earlier and the intro price was $1,799 which was a little better but looks like it has been fixed...
Yea… it’s tempting for me with a student discount but completely unnecessary. I wonder if the M2 will be at WWDC or if we have to wait until the end of the year.

So this image is currently on Apple’s Studio Display webpage…

EDIT: Tim Erickson on twitter reckons this is just a display bug and the white is supposed to be transparent.

I'm in a similar situation. I guess I'll wait or save up some more money, lol.

So Apple removed the 27" Intel iMac from the website, but the 2018 Intel Mac mini is still available for purchase...?

Maybe Apple plans for a M1 Pro Mac mini at some point soon...?

Yes, the Intel Mini makes no sense now.
Likewise, the absence of a M1 Pro Mac mini is puzzling. The only way to get a 32gb option is to go for a Studio box.

Why? If you look at the Mac Studio it's basically is a pro Mac Mini. The difference in cost isn't that huge. Plus you're getting more ports and more ram.

If anything it might have been nice if they had offered a M1 Pro model of the Mac Studio at a few hundred dollars off. Maybe $1599 or $1699.

Yep. A few years ago i’d have bought this instantly, despite not needing it. I’m older and wiser now, plus have my eyes on an RTX 4080 later this year 👀
we all are wiser now and we will order these for racks and what work we can do with them now
4080 will remain for gamers and miners

Here's hoping. I don't think I need the Studio.

EDIT: Although that never stopped me before. I am going to think about it for a while.

That's what I'm hoping. I've got the luxury of being able to wait a little longer -- I've got an Intel Mac mini from 2019 which I'm very happy with. An M1 Pro mini I would have considered. But ... nope, no such thing.

Will the Studio Max/Ultra be as quiet as the M1 mini? I'm thinking a little bit louder

The M1 Ultra is basically two M1 Max chips fused together. That's 20 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores. So it'll definitely produce some heat.

BUT... the cooling looks beefy. Two fans and a giant enclosure.

Big fans can turn more slowly while moving the same amount of air.

I'm sure Apple took noise into consideration when designing this system. But as usual we'll have to wait for reviews.

Thanks for freeing up a place in the queue ;-) I'm also on a 2018 mini, but feel the shortcomings of the integrated GPU quite massively in my workflow, so the Studio comes with perfect timing. Just have to fight the "Want" reflex caused by the M1 Ultra and take the rational decision for the Max.

I'm done with chasing the latest GPU tech - especially as the 4xxx series is said to bring another significant increase in power consumption over the already power-hungry 3xxx series.

Therefore the Max will more than suit my casual gaming needs (together with my PS5). Let's face it: The crazy price levels prevented many people from upgrading their GPU's, so game developers will focus on lower hardware (as that's what the majority is still using for gaming), thus rarely being able to really make use of the high end GPU's even today, let alone next gen. Unless, of course, you're a hardcore enthusiast going for 4k@240Hz+ gaming :)

I do assume that Apple designed the cooling system in the Studio for the M1 Ultra, so it'll probably be audible (though not disturbing) on an Ultra chip and whisper-quiet on the Max.

By my calculations, working backwards from $2000 starting price for the M1 Max studio and using Apple's usual M1 incremental formula of $25 per GPU core and $25 per GB RAM, that would have put an M1 Pro mini starting at about $1200, which seems entirely plausible. If they made one. Which they don't, yet.
