I didn't see this pic posted. It illustrates the motherboard design - two tiers to save space.

Better airflow too. However, it will be a dust magnet at the bottom.
BTW, Luke Miani says that based on the appearance of the boards in Apple's animation, the power supply is the bare board on top, and the motherboard is in the middle of the Mac mini, with what may be a curved heat pipe extending from the underside of the motherboard to overlie the exhaust vent.

I know the new mini was only unveiled a few hours ago but the old minis already look and feel massive by comparison. Like can you remember when the “mini” was so big??

So is that the end of this thread, or do we start talking about the anticipated M6-powered Mini for 2027?
🤣
A new thread needs to be started for the next Mac Mini redesign. That should last at least another 10 years.

it would be nice if we could run TVOS on this new Mac mini with the Apple TV remote working, but I understand Apple would prefer I buy the Apple TV too
I'm waiting for the next Apple TV to be announced, is going right next to this new m4 mini, father & son together

and 3 TB5 ports...base M4 Pro is the best deal for those who use both cpu and gpu and ports
That makes zero sense. $1399.00 isnt a deal. The only differense is two more cpu cores, and TB5, memory bandwith, and more GPU cores.
1. They both have 5 ports.
2. I dont game on my mac
3. TB5 i dont care about
4. Geekbench for the 10 core 15000, Pro estimated 18000. Difference in real world to me,zero.

For $600 i would have to keep the pro for a good while to get my moneys worth. I have been getting the mid range mini for quite awhile and upgrading when a new mini comes out. About every two years or so. I have an external ssd 1tb drive and reuse it.

I spend around $400 every two years or $200 a year to upgrade. That is the biggest bang for your buck in Apples lineup. You will probably spend $1400 or more and have a outdated machine when i will be on my M6 mini in two years. To each their own but i think the plusses of the $800 model outweigh the cons.

The base mini is $599 and the mid range is $799. You get 250gb ssd for $200 more. So $200 for each upgrade. With the 256gb slow ssd speeds a 512gb is a wise choice.

The pro starts at $1399. To go pro you are spending $600 more for two more CPU cores and Gpu, 8gb Ram, and Thunderbolt 5. So you are spending $200 on each upgrade. The Apple tax applies here.

Not knocking the pro, if you need it go at it. Be my guest. You need it you need it. What are you going to do.

But if you dont need the extra power, getting the mid range model and upgrading more often is the smart way to go.

Awesome! Pre-order placed for the 16/512 model. 16GB RAM should be future-proof for a long time, and I mostly use external and Cloud storage, so 512GB internal storage is plenty. Slightly tempted to bump up to the 24GB model, but it's a slippery (uphill) slope to the Pro model "well, for only $200 more, I get..." repeat over and over!

Can't wait!

Would have liked a USB-A port for some of my legacy devices, but the A-to-C adapters are cheap. Totally happy with the 5 ports (plus Ethernet!) on the non-Pro model -- more than I was expecting, given the M2 port options. :)
I ordered the same. It seems the mid range mini was upgraded the most here.

I haven't thought about Front Row in years, and you're making me miss it all over again.

Apple did it. TY

Best deal in the Mac lineup. The pro is starting at $1399.00 for two more CPU cores, more GPU cores and 8gbmore ram for $600 more. Almost twice as much.

I think that the best deal is 600$ model. To pay 1/3 of the machine price just for additional 256GB of storage is overkill. One always can add additional large external storage for much cheaper. Extra 256GB is almost nothing nowadays when just one game may take 100+GB. And 256GB of internal storage is more than enough for the system and utility programs.

? Even the base model has 10/10 cores. So 200 more (or 1/3 of the whole price) is just for the 256GB of storage.

Interesting - that I don’t think the new mac min has wifi 7 yet. Surprising they left that out since the new iPhones come with that.

Really like the smaller size, but not sure what I will gain if I upgrade from my 2023 Mac Mini M2 Pro with 16gb of memory and 1 TB SSD. Thought about going to the non pro new Mac Mini, but don’t think would see many new benefits besides the size.

I’m posting this cause it could be useful to some

Is a headphone jack cover plug and a usb c plug dust covers both in silver or black
I don’t plan to ever use the head phone jack and I’ll probably only use one of the 2 usb c ports upfront ever
Is only a dollar and some change from china
This can’t damage the Mac right ?

Here's some of my thoughts on the new Mini...

Industrial design: The size/port config. doesn't make that much of a difference to me. It all gets tucked behind my 32" monitor and will have a rats nest of cables, hubs and external drives next to it-nothing much I can do about that.

Specs: I ordered the 512GB with 24GB RAM. I currently have 256GB and occasionally run out of disk for working files. In that case I need to work on them off an external 512GB SSD. I would hav preferred a 1TB internal drive but can't justify the cost.

Benchmarks: Max Tech has posted what he thinks are close to the Geekbench metrics and I trust his math (albeit speculative). Processor is a touch over 3x what my 2018 i5 Mini does. Metal (graphics) benchmark is about the same as I already get with my eGPU which has been a lifesaver.

Compatibility: I'm running some legacy software that I certainly hope can run. Mostly it's some low-cost shareware I have purchased over the years. Only time will tell if I have compatibility issues.

Timing: New Mini arrives in just over a week. It will give me time to talk to the Apple store to get a few of my questions answered in terms of the switchover from Time Machine.

The 256gb has half the SSD speeds. Apple has priced each upgrade at $200 each.

The 10 core M4 is a faster chip, more ports, thats about it. But thats about it with every upgrade.

Ordered the base model. Was interested in the iMac (and still may order one) but this little Mac mini looks about perfect.

Base MM M4 (especially for education) looks like a great and really сompetitive machine for the masses with excellent performance/price value. Which doesn't happen often when it comes to Apple. Tiny, 16GB of RAM, 10/10 cores, 2x faster than M1. I think I'm going to upgrade my MM M1 when this f* war is over.

I got the m4 base 24GB/512 GB model for 1k at this price is it better to just get the pro for $400 more? I don't need the extra power right now, but like I said earlier my last Mac mini I used for 10 years
