I got the m4 base 24GB/512 GB model for 1k at this price is it better to just get the pro for $400 more? I don't need the extra power right now, but like I said earlier my last Mac mini I used for 10 years
Do you need it, or do you foresee you needing it in the next couple of years? If not then don't. I like the higher end specs of the M4 Pro, but I don't actually need it right now, so it's not worth the extra CA$600 to me. The extra performance is irrelevant to me, so it mainly comes down to stuff like DisplayPort 2.1, which I won't need anytime soon either. If I do need the upgraded specs in say three years, I'll get a new machine and sell the old one. That's what I'll do with my M1 Mac mini, which is actually totally fine for my needs with its 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.

Hi,

i work in an Apple Reseller and like many of you i'm waiting for the mini 2013 refresh.

From monday the two major Apple suppliers in Italy are suddenly and completely out of stock of minis. I know that this happen from time to time, but the timing is no coincidence.

Trust me, a new mini is coming next week, or at least we have solid evidence to believe it.
A new Mac Mini has come........

The new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming, eternally.

If anybody is thinking of trading their Macs to Apple for the m4 , for a few reasons, not wanting to deal with eBay or Facebook marketplace
For example for the m2 mini pro base ,Apple is offering $390, Best Buy is offering $575 , the downside to Best Buy they might not have the custom model m4 you want , like I only see the base m4 pro & m4 base non pro 24/512 as the highest base model + 2 cheaper options

Wonder why Best Buy is so much higher? Usually Apple and Best Buy are the same or close in trade in values.

Likewise, my first thought was more like a baby studio as well. The way it sits up off the ground with the round bottom vent.

But I can see the notion that its smaller and puck sized towards the Apple TV size.

One thing that hasn't been talked about much is the potential for Macs (post M4) to be a platform viable for gaming. I've gotten into it a bit with people on here and IRL about this topic, but my hunch from a few years ago is finally coming to fruition.... the new Macs, with 16GB+ of RAM have the graphics capabilities to run some AAA games. With 50,000+ Metal benchmark scores in Geekbench for a base M4 I would think games should be able to run at 30fps+ similar to an Xbox Series S.

Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the finest graphics in the industry and the announcement that they are going to port it to Mac in 2025 is kind of a big deal.

There will obviously be some limitations compared to the big GPU's in PC's but if a base Mac can be on a par with the likes of an xbox series s, then Mac could be a reasonable platform going forward as anything above base is only going to be better performance.

I've long not understood why the likes of the xbox is not able to run as a desktop system via a custom windows os. Such products, to me, would make for great platforms in the home/student/kid environment. A single, reasonable small box that can do the gaming and work as a productive computer / full internet in one small box.

With the price of the base Mac mini ... that's bordering on a possibility.

wow that's nuts can you post a link to where it says this.
I had heard that somewhere(?) too ... I think the 512 GB is striped in two 256 GB modules so it was faster ... I don't know what if Apple has done anything about that for the 256 GB. Otoh, for the lightweight usage I have ... unless I need it for the nascent AI I don't know what to say about any significant effect on my usage.

My wife and I decided we'd buy a new dishwasher instead of an M4 Mini. Anybody got any ideas of the timeline for the M5 Mini?
The Mini went from M2 to M4. I guess it is possible that M5 will be skipped in favor of M6. That could be pretty far in the future. Apple has shown a willingness to leave the mini untouched for many years, hence the length of this thread.

My biggest worry is that, hopefully, the cooling system works as advertised. I guess that is why I just went with the M4 base model. In the past inadequacy of the cooling systems in older PCs have caused failures. Not to say that these minis won't be up to it ... but they are a very small enclosure.
