I don't think the iMac will be updated until mid July.

MacBook and Mac Mini will hopefully be refreshed before WWDC, some MBP model at WWDC, and eventually iMac.

I would research this whole santa rosa thing, but...

-=|Mgkwho

Can you explain your reasoning?

Seems like you have the iMac and Macbook switched to me.

iMac - Days Since Update 247 (Avg = 168)
Mac mini - 247 (Avg = 151)
Macbook Pro - 199 (Avg = 182)
Macbook - 184 (Avg = 204)

Also, to those who think they will drop the i from iMac, as others have said you cannot do that because all computers running the Macintosh operating system are called Macs.

...and about dropping the iMac all together in favor of the Mac mini that does not seem to jive to me because I am of the belief that the iMac is one of Steve's favorite things. It was one of the first new products he introduced after he came back. I actually believe that he thinks the iMac is the pinnacle of what is currently possible for desktop design.

In iMac's current iteration it is a consumer and school product. It has no business being released at WWDC unless it becomes a professional product. June is already a busy month and with WWDC and iPhone, there is too much to release.

I think it will take at least two weeks after iPhone to hear anything new from Apple; therefore mid-July at the earliest for new iMacs.

When I say "gaming" iMac - basically I mean an iMac that can have the latest and greatest graphics card installed and possibly sound card too ..... it would become a true "All In One" does everything, machine as opposed to being a compromise ......

And if you think the gaming market is tiny ..... then dude you have been drinking your own piss again !! :D

Apple make beautiful machines, yet they only have 2-3% of the market ..... until they make a kick ass iMac which can compete with PC's on every level ..... they are doomed to stay in a tiny niche ..... picking up the scraps from PC's table .....

An easily upgradeable Gaming/Multimedia iMac would make Apple a mainstream player !! :)

You need to pay more attention to what the computing and tech world is really like... gaming is a niche market and the business realm is what drives PC and windows makers. Consumers and visual/audio students and professionals drive the Mac market and Apple is gaining on both since it can now run every OS under the sun... get out from under the rock.

2-3% of world market. Most of the big game producers are European or Japanese, so although the US market is very important, it's not the be all and end all.

That is a big jump from where Apple was in the past... you are forgetting about HOW fast Apple got that marketshare... where it was before it had it... and what methods and innovations they used to get there... the rock isn't good for you my friend.

I think they should change the sizes. Have a 15", a 17" a 20" and a 25" to even it off. They would also shave off more of the sides, the part at the bottom w/power supply, Improve iSight capabilities, add a magnet to the left side for the apple remote. Change the apple remote to match the 2g shuffle, put a basic alarm on the remote (I dont know what I would do without my little buddy). Reduce the size of the foot by a fraction (dont want the iMac falling over and breaking ;) ) A firewire 800 on every model except the 15"
, have a superdrive on all models, increase the speed on the 17, 20, and 25" put a 4x superdrive on the 15"... so basically the 15" would be the new 17". Oh, and the reason for the 15" is because I am on a 17" and I really dont need the screen size, I would've liked a 15" option. Throw the option for semi-decent graphics in for those people who want to play NWN or WoW or...well thats like.. it. :p just playing.

Heres what I would like to see:

15" $799/ 4x Superdrive

Processor:
2.0 Ghz C2D

Memory:
512 MB BASE
1 GB
2 GB

Hard Drive:
80 GB BASE
120 GB
160 GB
250 GB

17" $1,199/ 8x Superdrive
Processor:
2.0 Ghz C3D

Memory:
1 GB BASE
2 GB
3 GB

Hard Drive:
160 GB BASE
250 GB
500 GB
750 GB

20" $1,499/ 8x Superdrive
Processor:
2.16 Ghz C3D

Memory:
1 GB BASE
2 GB
3 GB

Hard Drive:
250 GB BASE
500 GB
750 GB

25" $2,099/ 8x Superdrive
Processor:
2.33 Ghz C3D

Memory:
2 GB BASE
3 GB

Hard Drive:
250 GB BASE
500 GB
750 GB

: ) what do you think..

I love it... it may not happen with the 15" and 17" models though... Apple is talking about cutting the 17" from the line up since it costs the same to make a 20" monitor as it does a 17" one... I would like to see the 20" at the 17" price range or slightly higher... bring the 24" down to 1499 or somewhere near the original price (1699?) then intro a 27" or 30" model that has more space for upgrades and expansion... a Quad Core processor, 8GB of RAM, 1 PCIx slot for a changeable graphics card... more FW ports and maybe two HDD inside the case...

Don't ask me about how that 30" iMac would look...

Hopefully like this:

iMac 20 or 24" Back lit LCD monitor and Leopard that’s the sweet spot for me to get a new computer. Last week it was a powerbook for my daughter, university and all that. So will wait and plug along with my old Compaq Presario Getting excited about making the switch back to Apple after many years. I also think the 17” is a goner. 20 - 24 - ??”

Considering that there is no Core 2 Duo that runs with a clockspeed of 3Ghz, I find that an interesting choice. :)
Also, I don't see Apple doing a 30" iMac but besides that, they won't ship anything other than BTO machines with 3GB of RAM for a long time.

I think they'll keep the 17" around for education until their 20" is >$900.

Those double "??" question marks right there should be a 30" or 27" iMac as per another members suggestion.

That 30" is nice but it is just a bigger iMac with the same compromising design that gamers and "take apart" geeks don't like. I think it is time Apple answers the mid range pro and gamer market with a machine with some expansion capability and a feature spec that is right under the lowest end MacPro... I still want dual HDDs, PCIx slot (at least one) Quad Core and up to 8GB of RAM... less laptop parts, make the case thicker if you have to but since I am sure that this new MacPro Mini will constitute a new design that will blow our socks off... they won't have too.

I also don't think the price would be that low for that much hardware standard... maybe 2GB, and a 250GB HDD standard and mediocre graphics card (user replaceable GPU) for a price around $2099 or $2299. Since it has a built in 30" or 27" screen it will cheaper than the MacPro and since the MacPro can be loaded with way more hardware it won't cut into their sales... but it will give the mid rangers a machine to buy, upgrade, and expand upon for the future.

This is also true... I would like to see that in the this in the next revision or an empty PCIx card slot that I can stick one in.

I hope he meant Xeon... putting a single Xeon chip inside would make it a nice mid range pro machine.

Agree big-time. Thats exactly what I want. Many of us cant pay the big bucks right off, we need to upgrade over time.

Thats kinda why I hope they do something with the G4 iMac design. I have one, yeah I'm ganna upgrade very quick (if in month nothing hppends I'm gettin one). But I really like the lamp-shade design. I am always shifting the monitor around because I always sit in some sort of strange position.

Also a larger base allows more space for changes....we can hope...:)

Why would the 24" iMac only have 200 GB's when the current one comes with 250 GB's?

I do like the lamp shade design... I am going to look for a 20" iMac G4 when I get some spare cash and somewhere to put it. I am looking for the very last revision and I can upgrade the parts and OS later; but I don't think apple uses designs twice in one lineup... they used the iMac G3 for the eMac but they still did some minor revisions to it... that is the only time I can think of where Apple used a design scheme twice.

I completely agree but don't call me Shirley.

Why the Mac Pro doesn't come with eSATA built-in can only be attributed to having card slots. I'd like Apple to pitch FW800 overboard and get eSATA pronto. FW400 is probably a keeper for a while since so many devices besides storage still use it. Ultimately, I'd like to see HDMI, eSATA, and USB as the standard connection formats. I don't think much would be lost.

I think FW400 should just get swapped out for 800 as the standard.

Well, I just hope they release it sooner than later - I've been predicting this upcoming Tuesday for a while; I know everyone else says the 7th...

Any later and the early-September iPod family announcements will eat away from the new-product attention.

could that really be it??

One Word = NO

If it is it, that looks like a 17 inch screen, and many sources have told us that they were dropping the 17 inch. Also, if it truly is it, then it isn't "Wowing" Me. Doesn't look very industrial.

Ahh, the ever-fabled elevator pic. The sure-fire sign that it's a fake. I'm pretty sure the iHome and iWalk were supposedly photographed in an elevator, as well as countless other fake products.

Hi it`s my studies iMac and new apple Remote
iMac-Remote.jpg

The one thing that would be nice about that kind of design would be that it could be more seamlessly extended to a second monitor, without looking like the second ACD was out of place (ie. if they redesigned both the iMac and ACD so that from the front they matched)...
