Why? PC gaming is a niche market at best. The Mac gaming market is tiny. Geeks maybe crying out for gaming machines, but the mainstream general public isn't.

while i dont play games on my mac if you remember the 1999 macworld keynote steve jobs promised that the mac would become a gaming system..... it dose have games and such but....idk.... i like my xbox/gamecube good enough!

Are the iMacs, MBPs, and MacPros on Apple's new CS3 pages only for CS3? No, didn't think so.

The Mac will become a gaming platform when it is suitable for games in it's own right: there won't be a specific model for games. If it's good enough then it is good enough.

Does it matter what Apple does to the iMac? I've been waiting months for the iMac upgrade and for Leopard to be released so I can get a new computer. At this point I don't care if they paint it purple and put a cupholder on the side. Just get them in the stores, Steve!

Looking for ...

- Penryn or Wolfdale 45nm (dual-core @ 6MB cache/1333 MHz DDR3)
- Blu ray writer
- HDMI (out) -not sure why i said this- seeing HDMI is audio/video and the optical drive can connect to a stereo or a/v receiver, you find a reason why it should have HDMI-
- Black (finish as an option)
- 5000:1 contrast for the display
- GeForce 8 (some how)

I can not think of anything else at the moment.

Haha... just an idea... but maybe they should add ambient lighting to the back of the monitor. Just like some of the new Phillips LCD TV's (though I hate Phillips).

Honestly, I really want a video in. What is the point of having a beautiful 20-24" (possibly 30"?) if you can't hook up your next gen console to it? (xbox 360 or PS3) I think that would be awesome.

I also think blu-ray will definitely be incorporated into the new iMacs since Toast 8 supports blu-ray directly.

I can see video in on the 24", but not the 20" or of course 17". It seems like Apple is positioning the 24" to be the consumer version of the MacPro.

video in would be nice ... but probably wont happen seeing you can buy Eyetv Hybrid.

I hope they add this to the next iMac Go 7900 GTX 512 MB or two of them lol

I don't think Apple will ever release a 15" desktop, its just not worth it, since most 15" LCD monitors cost the same or more than some 17" LCD monitors. Plus everyone is going for widescreen now, and a 15" widescreen would be ridiculously small.

I personally think the next iMac will follow more the form of the Cinema Displays, so Apple can attempt to sell more Cinema Displays since the two would match so well!

I would say there will probably be some bumps in speed, and possibly a quad-core BTO 24" model.

I would love to have a Quad-core iMac. 2xC2D or 1xQuad core something like that would be nice I wouldnt care if it was like 1.8 GHz or something like that per core.

If I were designing the next release of iMacs

I would pretty much leave the iMac line alone, and do a basic 'speed-bump'...

But, in keeping with my long-term goals for them, I would start now by adding a few key features, then a few more, etc.

NOW: Work on getting more RAM into the case (make dual/parrallel booting more enjoyable.) and better graphics cards, higher resolutions / more pixels per square inch.

EVENTUALLY: Better A/V in/out support: Adopt better standards like DisplayPort in/out HDMI in/out, etc. Blu-ray (HDDVD?) support. White LED backlight, with more dynamic range in brightness and contrast, as well as better color control. Better iSight. Slimmer bezels - and more options... such as White, Black, and Aluminum.
Eventually the iMacs will have almost an identical form factor with the stand-alone displays like the Cinema Displays, at least when viewed straight-on. This will make adding additional displays more aesthetic, as will offering displays in the current aluminum, but also the white and new black enclosures.

Why not Go 7950 GTX? It's better, and like so many people want, able to play games on max at a not-so-insane resolution. And if you see Alienwares new laptop you will notice how big it is with 2x 7950 GTX's.

WTF? You can get 3 gigs across the line...And isn't that a processor problem anyway?

And the case hasn't changed since mid 2005 I believe...it's time for some nip/tuck.

How big is it compared to like a 24" iMac ... shouldnt it be almost the same size or what not?!

I agree with you I'm also waiting for it to be shipped

The speed bump in the processors will help, as well as more RAM, and better graphics; all work together to make multiple operating systems work better together on the same machine, as does faster storage and better software.

The nip/tuck comes in altering the form factor to fit the future Cinema Display, with the added bonus of making multiple displays more enjoyable.

It seems that Apple is in IPhone mode. I don't think we will see new IMac now till around the one year mark (i.e. Paris Expo). I also think this will be the norm from here on out, with once a year updates. I also think that Apple in the next couple of years will drop the IMac all together in favor of the Mac Mini as a comsumer model and the Mac Pro, for high end user.

i really don't see apple dropping the imac. i can see a change in design, as well as name. maybe going to "mac", leaving the "i" behind. i also would be shocked to see apple switching to a once a year update for hardware. if anything i can see them going to a more phase-focused silent update scheme, where even larger changes happen with less fan-fare. especially once they make other iphone models, they will have to be able to release product frequently without the cost of big media events. it isn't cheap to fill an expo hall with fans/developers.

jmho.

No. Steve will miss saying "One more thing"

I don't think the iMac will be updated until mid July.

MacBook and Mac Mini will hopefully be refreshed before WWDC, some MBP model at WWDC, and eventually iMac.

I would research this whole santa rosa thing, but...
