Has Apple ever released anything in the summer?

Actually the summer WWDC was a popular time to release the iPhone and computer updates until a couple years ago.

Ugggh, so September then?

I would hope Apple does another event for the Pro sooner; maybe next month? I'd think they'd want to cash in on some of the back to school crowd.

I get so terribly disappointed at Apple, how long do we have to wait for a new version of MBP . If Apple continues to make customers disappointed they'll lose them. YOU CAN NOT DO "EVERYTHING" WITH THEIR F**KING iPad. Now I will leave the sinking ship and look for other options. Lenovo or Dell?

It's what makes the most sense to me. Besides, if it really is coming this year (and it better), I'm not sure if announcing it along side the iPhone 7 is a good idea. And I'm also in that crowd.

I believe Apple will hold a July/August event specifically for the Mac line up:
  • MacBook Pro redesign
  • MacPro update
  • iMac update
  • 5K Thunderbolt Display
  • New Mac Minis*
*Just kidding.

Have they done something like that before? Done an event out of pattern, little notice for a product?

All the time. If I'm not mistaken, and just as an example, Apple released new Apple Watch bands at its April 2016 event.
Well they usually do a March/April event. I guess it's anyone's guess at this point. They could also do an October event after the iPhone event for the macs. I wish they would have just shown it off today, even if it wasn't ready for release until a couple of months.

new Apple Watch bands

I was being silly ;)

On a serious note: I'm pretty sure Apple has invited press to custom events that aren't cyclical. It's their game, they play by their own rules. I'm sure their schedule is always needing adjusting when taking on new product categories, and so on.

I was certain they would announce the new rMBP today. Certain! So I'm recycling my certainty for July/August.

So another event and no MBP updates.

Looking at the keynote, it seems Fall will be the launch of new MBP in line with MacOS Sierra release. Though I'll be surprise if they release it earlier, especially the 13" version to catch the back-to-school crowd, not that I'm complaining :D

I think they actually use back to school to push out current inventory, or at least they used to. I remember one year there was a full redesign during the back to school promo and the new models weren't eligible for the free iPod or w/e they offered...

This seems likely after the hardware free WWDC. What an exciting event that will be (esp. contrasted with WWDC)!!

The 2015 rMB top lid leaked, as have schematics in the past....have to remember that last real redesign of the MBP line, if you take away the Retina Display addition since it wasn't really a complete redesign...well it dates back EIGHT years! It was 2008...today there is a lot more interest and attention to every little thing Apple does, the extreme scrutiny culture of today's Internet blogger media is almost completely unrecognisable.

In relative terms it was ridiculously simple to keep a product/movie/story secret even as recently as 2008. Today it is virtually impossible.

Just look at iPhone releases. We are getting leaks and rumours 2 years out now. Only a couple of years ago the storm wouldn't start until a month or two before release. Cynics believe that it is Apple itself that starts the guerrilla marketing machine earlier and earlier every year to keep people talking about the company and its a products year round, but it is much closer to reality that it is in our human nature, and companies in Apples position have realised that they can roll with it and use it to their advantage up to a point while still outwardly putting up a top secret front by keeping their mouth shut officially.

It is sites like this that thrive on this stuff! And heck, it is entertaining!

This thread is a prime example, it is now three years old as of Saturday!
Well said.

It's funny watching all the people flouncing off and buying a dell in protest. You're the one torturing yourself. Is it not rather infantile behaviour?

It's patently clear a new MBP is on it's way. Weeks or months away.

Having watched the WWDC live there was no room for a hardware launch in that presentation and other posters made the point before hand. Hardware would have been lost. So there will be a separate release and/or event.

Clearly so much in iOS and particularly macOS will be tailored to new hardware and such that needs more time to communicate the novel features that interlink with hardware, which will be more compelling to upgrade from historical hardware. These new features are going to be hardware dependant.

I'm absolutely more pulsed to buy into the ecosystem with the PRIVACY direction and reaching out to Children.

Looking forward to the imminent MBP redesign and launch.

If the iPhone 7 is just a slight bump on the iPhone 6 design I wonder if thats what they are saving the MacBook intro for. Take a little sting off the iPhone 7 intro and fill time with the new MacBooks.

Still, waiting for September to update the MacBooks seems insane, its fricken 2015 after all. Oh wait its 2016 and still no new MacBooks. :(

waiting .....

WWDC 2015 was 2 hours and 30 minutes.

I recently saw an article with a supposed picture of the new MBP case, and according to the article, the case doesn't appear to be significantly thinner than the current MBP's.

I was thinking we would see a much thinner and lighter MBP?

Hopefully not. MBP's for their price need to be competitive with other laptops on the market, and not low end PC laptops which is about their only competition these days.

It's been a while since a Mac centric event, but it's not un-heard of. When Apple introduced the uni-body MacBook Pro, they held a out of sync 'spotlight turns to notebooks' event where they introduced all new MacBooks and iMacs.

Calm down, the best advice i've ever gotten from the site is if you can wait; wait and if you can't buy!
You can't blame Apple for not releasing a product they never announced in the first place.

Besides This wait is a piece of cake compared to my Arrandale 13" MBP wait back in 2010 or 11 (I drop that in as many posts as I can lol).

If you do want to join me on the Windows tip, go Surface don't even bother with anything else but if for whatever reason you don't want a Surface, Lenovo is the best alternative as long as your OK with the past scandals etc

If you're a through and through Mac guy, I would say stay on OSX, I think Windows 10 is brilliant and could sell Surfaces all day but I would not buy a rival when you're vested in Mac.
