Ditto what MRU said, the update is quick and painless...don't ask me how much of my internal memory I have left now, I don't want to know!

Re: rattle, no worries, it's just my OCD! It is just the game cart when you are holding it in your hand, if you shake it, it rattles (why?). Once it is plugged in, no rattle...when I shake my Switch, all I hear are the tiniest of clicks from the joystick and buttons...sounds nice..

So there's something loose/broken and horribly wrong with your game cart? ;) :D

UGH A forbes article popped up in my GoogleNews feed ... "The Nintendo Switch's Virtual Console Should Be A Subscription Service". Such a turn off

Any feedback yet on the grip that comes with it versus the Pro controller and if you feel it is overkill?

$70 for a controller is rather pricey and it comes with a pro like set up if you will so going back and forth on that now before the Switch ships next week. May snag one if I see them in a store over the weekend or something but dont want to order it yet.

Also, in addition to the above, could somebody comment/post a photo of them to compare how much bigger (or not) the pro controller is? The regular controller places the joy-cons kind of close together. I wasn't thinking of a pro controller, but if it is any amount bigger I may go for one.

Unless your job involves posting repeatedly on Macrumors, your posting priviledge has just been revoked due to jalousy of everyone here that doesnt have a Switch. Now go play that game and don't stop until you finish it! ;)

I know! He's like a white man complaining he's got too much money... :)

Anyone got a link to a very high level overview of the Zelda story?

This is the very first Zelda game I will be playing.

I know, I know...

MRU's stash !!!

So jealous!

Tell us if the Pro controller is really much better than the included grip with the Joycons.

I really don't want to pay even more for a decent controller to play the games. It should come standard.

I think you might enjoy it a lot more if you don't know. (Have a look at a video review or two to see what type of a game it is, but don't try to get story/plot spoilers). It's a beautiful world to explore and get lost in.

The wikipedia article isn't bad...I don't see any obvious major spoilers (realize that if you read closely about the plots, they will synopsize the entire game, but they usually do it without any real spoilers).

I meant game history through all the others. I know they are pretty much stand alone but I want to have some kind of idea of what is going on unless it truly touches on some history of it.

Pro Controller is 150% more comfortable than the joy-cons.

The analog sticks have more travel, the d-pad feels a million miles more natural and just the whole feel of it in the hand is far better ....

BUT

I can't say it's an essential purchase if Nintendo continue to make so e games incompatible with it for what is no good reason.

I would suggest anyone try the joy-cons, you may find them more comfortable than me (I find them passable at best) and if you don't, then you can be assured the pro controller does feel lovely in hand, however sadly don't expect every game to support it ...

Each game is fairly stand alone. There are some lore aspects that cross over all the games (like, Link, Zelda, Triforce, etc.) but a) you probably already know those, and b) the games do a good job of explaining what you need to know. I wouldn't worry about it...

GameTrailers did a great retrospective series on the Zelda series. It's probably on YouTube (I dont have access right now).

Each game is fairly standalone. They all have the same story arch set in different times/places with different styles and gameplay elements.

I'm not in the US though. :D I think Europe/Germany is more Nintendo hyped than the US (could be wrong about that of course). Online stock is sold out everywhere I looked at. Granted, I'm not checking every single store around here - not that important for me. Somehow glad the Wii U version is said to be great as well so I can give her one last salute.
Oops my bad, shouldn't have assumed sorry.

As I walked into my Best Buy store around 11, a teenager walked out with one. Just so happens the manager had one in his hands I said to him let me have that :D There was at least one more on the counter. They were all out of the Pro controller and all cases. Plenty of Zelda. $190 out the door (I redeemed my rewards and had a giftcard) for the Switch and Zelda, can't beat that :D

Just got a chance to plug it in. First glitch was unable to connect to my wifi. I press try again and it connected so I didn't enter a wrong password. Then, while doing the system update (it's going extremely slowly), it put itself to sleep and it's plugged in o_O I would've thought it should temporarily disable sleep while doing any type of downloads...

Great, unable to communicate with the server at 46%..

I didn't even open everything in the box yet. I just plugged my MacBook pro USB-C charger in and it works just fine. Yeah I can share the charger with a $1500 MacBook lol.

Yeah I thought $50 for any controller is already quite steep. At $75 with tax it is a full 25% the cost of the whole thing which is quite insane. But hey it comes with a USB-C cable! I bought one at Target. It feels very nice. Very crisp D-pad. Feels way better than the joycon, which I plan on never taking them off. I'll just the pro controller while docked.

It lost connection to my wifi again while stuck at 46% update. Not a very good out of box experience..

I think i'd prefer to see a seamless 720p30 on the switch than an occasionally choppy 900p experience. I'm not too fussed about the resolution personally, but frame rate dips is something i would notice. I'm hoping the day1patch can fix that via a driver update or something.

Regarding the kickstand.... While I know many reviewers have mentioned it(negatively). I'll wager that it was made 'flimsy' on purpose, because they probably expect people to mishandle it, so at least this way, it's easier to reattach. IMHO.

Cheers
True! I saw a review on Nintendolife saying that the kickstand can be popped back in if it falls out, but it gets quite weak after a while and starts to get hard to put back. This worries me a little especially considering that the kickstand is the bit that acts as a cover cap for the SD card, so I don't particularly like the idea of stressing that one too much. (Lots of good ways around this problem though!) For example, Hori do a stand (but even though it folds up, it's still quite a bulky thing to carry in my opinion, so I would probably get one for home still, as I think it would be useful for charging if the battery dies whilst playing it in stand mode. (but I probably wouldn't carry it around with me)

I did like the functionality of Nintendo Licensed Hybrid Cover Case that came out which is alot better, as it straps to the console itself, so that one you could carry around no problem. It acts as a stand, and covers the screen like a laptop or 3DS does, so solves the vulnerable screen problem too. But the color in my opinion is really awful (looks like a mucky shade of grey. Even though the switch is grey, the console actually looks nice, but something about the hybrid cover on it aswell just seems too much, and the grey they use is kinda mucky lookin'! So it's a pity they don't do it any other colors, or this would be perfect).

I did have a look for others though. And I checked with the people I normally buy all my phone cases and screen protectors from, and they actually do a few good versions of both items that totally solves these problems. Their version of the Hori stand is virtually identical in every way except the Orzly version actually comes with a charging cable for the same price...

Orzly's version of the hybrid cover has quite a few colors, so I'll probably get one of those, but I'm not sure if I want the matt black version or (what I call) the zelda blue. On one hand, I can see the blue one getting dirtier alot quicker, but it matches really nicely with my other breath of the wild themed stuff, so we'll see. From the two pic below, which one do you think looks nicer?
(anyone else is welcome to chime in too btw. -The more brains on the job the better, because I'm kinda struggling to decide)

Ok ... Zelda is great and quite tough, can't go running into battle against more than one orc.

Haven't noticed any framerate issues on TV at 900p so far.

Have noticed that tablet mode seems to drop the distant object focus blur compared to TV mode.

Fast Racing RMX is essentially F-Zero or as close as we are going to get to it.

Snipperclips is a lot of fun on solo, I imagine it's really fun in dual play.

Shovel Knight is shovel knight, but it's still excellent.

Haven't played my copy of Bomberman R yet, and decided not to buy/pay €40 for I am Setsuna ...

Black definitely...

Then you can get a custom size skin from Decal Girl (my favorite place for skins as they have them in "matte" versions).

They are working on their Switch skins:

Here's part 1. Be warned that they theorize about the timeline(all Zelda games) and a lot of the "general" plot is divulged. Mind you this does not include anything "recent"....

They have made some other great retrospectives.... Metroid, Star Wars, Resident Evil. Highly recommended.

Cheers

Went to try the Switch today at that store. It is PLENTY available where I live. It's available on every store, with plenty of Pro controllers, accessories and Zelda games.

My impressions:

- The Pro controller is awesome! So so comfortable! I love it! Way better than the Xbox one. I couldn't try the Joycons with the grip.
- The screen of the device felt just okay. I mean, I feel like most smartphone and tablet screens are so so much better than this one... Meh... Just ok. I didn't fell in love with it. I could clearly notice this screen is inferior to the rest, both in resolution and brightness.
- Overall size is okay.
- Zelda looked better and worse than on videos. I played with it and it's good, but for me the graphics turn me off a little. I'm that kind of guy I guess. I do love high definition graphics.

The environment looks very simple and lacks detail. It feels like a mobile game more than a home console game. The gameplay is perfect. Very intuitive and playing with the Pro controller was a joy, seriously.

Still don't know if I would enjoy playing this game and other switch games. With better graphics I feel more immersed into the game and more attracted to it and to play it.

- The kickstand feels so so weak. I'm amazed.

So, all in all, good and not so good things. Nothing really negative. I need more time to think what to do. It felt more like a handheld console than a home console definitely, and I won't be playing too much in handheld. Good thing is that there is plenty of stock here so I'm in no hurry.

I got mines in about two hours ago and the first thing I noticed is those joy cons are tiny little things(my girlfriend loves them because they fit her hands perfectly) I have big hands so I'm going to have to get the pro controller I guess. I'm liking the simple UI, makes getting to the game quick. I haven't messed with any of the setting yet, we just opened it, set it up and popped Zelda in...I'll wait until my girlfriend goes to sleep to fiddle with the settings.

I just started Zelda and so far so good, I'll get Mario Kart when I could find a copy.

Yeah the joy con tininess took me by surprise too.

I actually thought that texture was from a skin lol. It wouldn't look too bad if that texture was uniformed across the entire surface. Looks almost like leather.

Hilarious you said that as I thought the same exact thing! Haha
