GameStop's getting on my nerves. I preordered a switch bundle last week under the impression that it would be released April 16. So I figured that if I pick it up beforehand, I can cancel the bundle. But I just got sent 2 download codes from the bundle, and customer service told me I can't cancel it now. I think that's bs, especially when I'm expecting it nearly a month later.

GameStop would pull some scammy crap like that.

My greatest claim to fame is trading in 360 controllers a power brick (but not 360 slim since I would've oddly gotten less for brick and console trade in-- fine by me) and xb1 fatty scratched to hell for a difference of
50 bucks after selling the included madden disc asap to get the slim

Otherwise screw em

I miss the other game retailers that seem to have gone under. I remember when the PS3 first came out at $600 and I couldn't afford it, I went in to Babbages to see if they had any used ones and their price. They didn't have any and if they did it was only like $100 off, but while I was there someone came in looking to trade in their PS3. The employee offered them $300 in store credit, once they agreed he called me over and told me they accepted the $300 credit and if I would be interested in purchasing it from them at $300 cash. I immediately said yes and he turned to them and asked if they'd prefer cash from me instead of store credit and they said yes. So I was able to get the PS3 at that price a couple months after launch, and I always went to them to purchase new games. That's real customer service there, it unfortunate they're gone now and all we have is Gamestop. Glad Best Buy got serious about gaming as now I go there.

Last year, They in Store credited me $15.00 for a Xbox 360, two controllers and an external hard drive. When I asked what it was worth when GameStop sells it, The employee told they would sell the console only for $69.00. That's a serious profit margin for a dated console. (Which was in very good working condition, with the original box.)

That's depressing 15 credit

I only did well cause of a trade in program specific to xb1 fatty to slim.

That is *highly* annoying.

Yeah, if you look at games like the last of us on PS3, I would say the PS3 is still more powerful than the Wii U, so I guess that falls in between the two.

One advantage the switch has over something like the iPad is the fan keeps the processor cool, so it won't throttle as much. Don't know if that relates at all to the article, but maybe it is 10x more powerful than a throttling iPad?

I was thinking a couple of days ago, yeah I know the PS3 was released umpteen years ago and wasn't discontinued until about 4 and a half years ago, but just think...now you have something that powerful, but in the palm of your hand, and you can take it anywhere and have 3 hours of battery life.

Most people would agree that is a great system. I think the fact that it is Nintendo has some of the fan boys turning their nose up at it. Well, they don't know what they are missing!

I'm going to try to return it anyway. Maybe if I explain the situation in person they'll refund me. I thought the download codes would come bundled in the box or something. The fact that they sent it a month early made it ineligible for cancellation, and I can't even redeem the codes now.

Tell GameStop to Stop with their Games

Sounds like US GameStop's are really crappy. Whilst they are expensive here for games on launch compared if you shop around, they are good for trade ins and bonuses if you become part of their tiered rewards programme. I have their 'epic' reward and got free goodies in the form of hoodies and stuff as well as access to events and on top of that get 15% - 20% extra credit every trade, plus 2 weeks grace with whatever i buy. If i don't like it I can take it back for exchange or refund no questions asked. If i could finish a game in a fortnight I would be on a roll taking it back and getting a new one each week ;)

Yeah, I've noticed alot pf people saying this recently on forums about the Orzly ones taking ages to arrive. Mine turned up okay (but I ordered mine back in late February as a pre-order though, so that I'd have them ready for when the console came out). But it does look like lots of people ordering them after the Switch launch date are saying they are having exactly the same issues getting hold of them as you have, so they must be having some them real problems shipping them out since then. Have you tried contacting them to find out what's going on? I've dealt with them quite a few times in the past, and between you and me, you can sometimes get some freebies out of them when you contact their customer services for shipping issues. (I have done that once or twice in the past!)

I did have to contact Orzly but was surprised with the great customer support and they said they lost a shipment therefore they resent the package to me, I was pretty happy with what I got tho - the qualitly of not only the case but the screen protector made it worth the wait

Just an FYI I ordered one of these WAAAY after you and I've chased my delivery as it was due to arrive yesterday and didn't. Got a response that says the following:

Dear customer

Thank you for your email.

I am sorry to see that your package has not yet been delivered. I have investigated your order and found that this was one of the orders which has gone missing with one of our Royal Mail shipments. Unfortunately many of our customers have complained about their orders which haven't arrived in the expected time frame and upon investigating, it came to our attention that there was whole batch of shipment, gone missing from Royal Mails delivery's. Looking at your order date, it looks like your order was also in this batch.

At the moment, we are investigating this with Royal Mail to find a solution. However, I do understand the urgency of this product to our customers and therefore I would be more than happy to process a free replacement of this order for you. Just to be on the safe side, can I also ask you to confirm me your name and address, so that I can double check this with the information in our system?

Please let me know if you wish the replacement or if you prefer the refund?

Doesn't fill me with confidence. Going to ask for a refund and buy elsewhere.

This is what happened with me and they sent me it immediately, hope this helps :)

The specs clearly show the Wii U being more powerful than the PS3. However the kinds of games developers made for the Wii U compared to the PS3 is I think a bigger point. Naughty Dog has always spent a lot of time optimizing against very specific elements of the PS3 hardware.

I got an email early this morning for Orzly, basically (summarizing greatly), "We apologize that it was all your fault for expecting you would get the screen protector soon. Because you prodded us with your confused complaints, we finally bothered to set up a US logistic partner, and soon expect to be included with Amazon Prime."

I think Nintendo should be exploring better second-party-type relationship, such as the ones they had with Factor5 and have with RetroStudios(Metroid Prime, new DonkeyKong games). Getting talent of that caliber to develop games which Nintendo doesn't/can't/won't produce would help broaden the type of *quality* titles on Nintendo platforms IMHO.

Essentially Nintendo should may it easier or even pay studios to develop exclusive AAA games for their system.

If you really want a Switch I'd recommend checking out CraigsList.

The night before the launch I had plans to wait in line for a Switch but due to work issues I wasn't able to. The next day I saw on Craigslist the Switch for $380. I contacted the guy and was able to get one the day of delivered to me at dinner for ~$40 more than what it would have cost me to go to the store after taxes.

I'm sure Nintendo is doing something like that. They've historically been a bit more private than other companies.

I think the game stuff will work itself out longer term. The market is jumping on it pretty aggressively. Will we see each Call of Duty game ported to the Switch? Probably not. But I imagine we'll see plenty of new games from 3rd parties that make sense, plus plenty of Indie content.

I'd stay away from Craigslist. Your best bet would be to go to Target tomorrow morning for a couple reasons. Gamestop officially announced they're getting more tomorrow, but so is Target. Target just hasn't announced it, so it'll be easier to get your hands on one since most people will be checking Gamestop.

Another reason is that Gamestop gets their deliveries after they open. A couple stores I spoke to said they get shipments around noon. Target receives their shipments overnight, so you can just wait outside the store before they open.

And Gamestop opens 2 hours after Target, so you can try both stores anyway.

Yeah, I know what you mean here! While it doesn't always turn out well (depending on the developer), I've known some absolutely excellent games come out of 2nd party collaborations like that...

When you consider what a great job Koei-Tecmo made when they were commissioned to make Zelda Hyrule Warriors (still by far one of my favorite games on the WiiU). -It actually worked out better than the original Dynasty Warriors series that the game mechanics of that game was built upon. (I know being a Zelda Fan, I'm bound to love it and that makes me a bit biased) but I genuinely think they made a great job of that game in their own right. (the WiiU version anyway. -Not so much the 3DS version)

But there were lots of other great 2nd part collaborations too. For example, both Bayonetta 1 & 2 were collaborations with Sega (plus one or two other developers). (and both of those remain right up there in terms of my all time favorites) Still memorable to this day, and it's one of those games I can play over and over again without ever getting bored! So there's alot to be said with collaborative efforts. Sometimes one great mind is wonderful, but more great minds on the job can create some real EPIC masterpieces! (the outsourcing also helps them not to get so bogged down, and allows them to can create more great games, so it's a win/win in my opinion!)

I can understand your perspective. It depends on if you have the time to run around from store to store.

I was perfectly willing to wait 5 hours in line to get one the night of the launch. Reality just didn't agree with me that night.

For the right price you can have it hand delivered instead of trusting what a GameStop employee tells you.

Though what I did isn't for everyone I'm glad I did it. I've been loving Breath of the Wild ever since.

@GeekishlyGreek
A friend reminded me about MetroidOtherM :( and that other 3DS "metroid" game which shall not be named. While it could go either way, I think it's worth the risk overall, and *usually* leads to a very positive outcome/game.

Stylistically speaking, Nintendo seems to want to focus on "cartooney" games (while the other two focus on ultra-realistic). Second-party support could be a good way for them to get more AAA mature titles (Rogue Leader, RE4, Metroid Prime, Bayonetta, etc) onto the platform. (Don't get me wrong, I really like cartoons, but even I like a mature drama(Last of Us) or thriller/horror(RE4) every now and then).

Apparently Factor5 has been resurrected recently... fingers crossed....good things to follow for the Switch.

Cheers

Update: It turns out they sent the download codes early because my bundle has shipped, an entire month early. I guess they've gained my trust back. But I've heard people have been receiving their bundles without the console themself, so I'll be on the safe side and try to pick one up at gamestop tomorrow.

Just applied my glass protector. Feels much more pleasing to the touch than the factory plastic screen.

I can count how many times I undocked my Switch with less than ten fingers, and I seen to notice more blemishes each time I do. Noticed these "rub marks" while cleaning the screen to apply the glass protector. They came off with the included alcohol cleaning pad. Now I see those same marks on the glass protector. It is on both sides on the opposite corners. I really don't know how Reggie can deny the dock is causing blemishes on the console  Well I don't have to worry about it now, and can clean it as vigorously as I please.

CNet has documented the joy-con issue and official fix:
https://www.cnet.com/news/nintendo-switch-joycon-desync-connectivity-issue-fix/

TrustedReviews article about the same: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/nintendo-may-have-solved-switch-joy-con-desync-issue-with-foam

They claim that they inspected the internals of the left joy-con before and after sending it into Nintendo. Apparently Nintendo put some 'conductive foam' (probably to improve the reception of the antenna) into the joy-con.

Yep, totally agree! While I wish in some ways the device's original screen didn't have these problems in the first place, but in other ways its still sort of a good thing that they only used a cheap screen. (if the device itself was made of even the toughest glass, those things can still break, and would have made the device cost alot more to begin with). So it sort of still makes sense to have the cheaper screen on the console, but just put an external toughened glass screen protector on it (like most of us did), as at least with an external glass screen protector it can be replaced if that ever gets cracked, and your switch is still left completely unscathed. But if it was the screen of the device itself had a tempered glass built in and that cracked, that happening to the device's actual screen would cost way more (and be more difficult to replace) if we ever had to get the screen of the actual device repaired. So sort of a blessing in disguise that we've had to put external glass screen protectors on them, as it's alot safer that way.

Ultimately I kinda wish that the dock had some kind of guide-rail to stop the screen getting scraped anyway (but that's a different niggle for a different day!) lol

Borrowed my nephews today when I went to get a oil change/air bag fix on my car.

While cool to play Zelda on the go. It's not really all that portable.

It certainly isn't. I got my hands on one when I last went to GameStop; the attendant has his personal unit there and he let me take a peek. After so long with the 3DSXL, which is just under oversized for my taste, I couldn't conceive of carting that device around.
