I think so. Ive been doing lots of Splatoon in handhel,d but it gets uncomfortable quick for me too

and i realized table mode w pro controller, I need to take off the joycons for Mario + Rabbids,

Table mode w/o joycons honestly is pretty clean anyways :D
I was replying off the top of my head through my phone earlier and now that I've had some time to think about it, I think I know why I don't like the joysticks. The top (head) where your thumb rests is too small, to the point where when I'm trying to make quick, accurate turns in order to splat opponents, I'm afraid my thumb will slip off at some point and then I'm screwed. That and the sticks, for good reason, are a bit on the short side.

On the other hand, I don't have to worry about quick camera movements in a turn-based strategy game like Mario + Rabbids, so the issue is alleviated somewhat.

I have Skyrim on everything and still want it on the Switch...geez man what's wrong with me.

Bless
I'm one of the people that have never played Skyim ever, but have always been wanting to, so it finally coming out on the Switch was wonderful news, and have been looking forward to it for ages.

Mario Odyssey is the only major game on my radar for the holiday season, so I wouldnt be too fussed if Skyrim got delayed past the end of the year.

From what digital foundry had to say, it seems like the pubs/devs are actually putting in some heart&soul and blood&sweat into the port, for a change. That isn't something i'm accustomed to as a Nintendo fanboy. So, I'm looking forward to supporting that effort (unless, of course there are major issues with the final release, which...from what I hear about Skyrim on other platforms, is entirely possible). :)

Cheers

Totally! As I'm finding with alot of games on the Switch, there are often many I want all coming out around the same time as other games I want (or very close to it) so my biggest concern is that I then get stuck with the dilemma of which game do I dedicate my time to in order to play properly (especially for games I am definitely buying no matter what and intend to play fully). Mario Odysee is definitely one of the games I will undoubtedly be playing when it comes out, but quite a big schedule coming up already (what with Zelda DLC 2 pack, Rayman Legends, and Skyrim all coming out in close proximity.
(and that's just counting switch games. If I count the 3DS ones I have to play, like Samus Returns, Hey Pikmin, and Kirby, which I'm currently trying to find time to flit in between somehow, alongside also Darksiders on WiiU, and the remaining DLC 1 parts of breath of the wild, a shortage of games to play certainly isn't an issue even long before then)

However, there's a bright side to this...

While the part of me looking forward to playing Skyrim will always be secretly disappointed by a delay in any game I'm excited about, due to how many great games I will already have a huge backlog to play around that time, I won't be as anywhere near as annoyed as I would have been. (and you make some great points about better to have them get it working well, rather than rushing it and spoiling it).

An even bigger plus side...

I won't be at all tempted to pay scalpers for a SNES classic either. (let the b**tards starve). So many great games to play at the moment that I'm not going to have time to do silly things like that, so quite happy to wait it out. Gonna be busy with so many of these other great games for a good long time. (and enjoying every minute of it!) ;)

...Oh yeah....Metroid Returns.... a Metroid game after almost 10 years!! That's next on my list.

You got to admit, it's pretty great to have so many good-to-great games to choose from on a Nintendo system. And i'm glad that's the case, despite the lack of showing from the big pubs.

Well! I am in love with Mario and Rabbids. The music is tremendous, and the world design is sublime! Like, it reminds me of Captain Toad except the areas are larger.

The gameplay is really tough too. For comparison I haven’t died once in Disgaea 5 in 50 hours of gameplay. I’ve died 4 times in the short few hours I’ve played of this. It really pushes you to use your head.

It’s not perfect though. The interface feels cheap and for a £50 linear game there really should be narration. I don’t feel like there’s good value for money, just because the gameplay is tremendous doesn’t mean they can charge so much IMO. Compared to Disgaea it’s bad value at least, Disgaea with its huge number of story maps, plus a random level generator and level design/sharing system, PLUS full narration for the same price. But despite that it’s excellent. It’s much harder than Disgaea because there are much fewer strategy options - the more options the easier the game. In fact it’s deceptively difficult. There’s the Mario veneer and plinky plonky music, but you’re thrown into the deep end very early on. Enemy types aren’t fully explained, and the map can be confusing too, it all adds up to the player being forced to explore and experiment. But there are no penalties for it. You can’t lose/sell items and dying just means you restart the level.

I’ve always loved strategy RPGs but I’ve never been much good at them, starting with the PSP and it’s huge library of such games. So far the Switch has 2 and I think both are the best (for different reasons) in their genre.

I hope this is the start of a new, long lasting series up there with Mario Kart and Smash Bros!

Re: Mario & Rabbids - I still have not encountered frame rate drops or stutters in docked or handheld mode on my physical retail copy. I spent a good 4 hours playing last night.

I wonder if the issue is related to downloaded versions only.

I got it again last night, in the puzzle maze part where the walls go up and down to block your path. First world, I think after the fourth map? This time I was playing in docked mode.

I'll try and see if there's a patch available, or maybe just try rebooting my Switch.

Mines dreadful at times and I’m playing a download copy. The worst of it was in docked mode, the camera panned incheses past Rabbid Peach with a shield up and the frame rate plummeted. That’d be a pixel fill rate issue so entirely blameable on the GPU. I reckon that’s why the devs have given us such limited camera control options, to prevent us from getting too close to transparent, shader-covered objects. Or too close to grass as it looks ace from afar but dreadful upclose!

Yeah I played through that section as I'm well into world 2 at this stage and yep it's all been smooth sailing. I do wonder if there is an issue with downloaded version over retail physical copies ?

Yeah I've played a good few hours now on the physical copy and not a single blip.

It's strange that there is this disparity, but it does seem to point at the downloaded versions being affected.

How's Sonic Mania or Street Fighter II Ultra?

I'm thinking about one or the other.

Mania had me hooked from the start until I got all the chaos emeralds and unlockables. For comparison I’ve never done that for any other Sonic game. It’s just this one is so much fun. Well worth it for any system!

Is the home screen bug still there or has it been patched ? I'm waiting to get it on the switch until that's fixed.

Bug still very much present. Amazed it’s taking this long to fix a major bug like this.

While I have had some hitches during exploration, I've thankfully not had any issues during combat. I don't think I've had anything near as bad as that to be honest...

The weird thing was I went back and forth through that maze multiple times, to hit switches and go back and grab the chest and so on, and it only hitched exactly once. It didn't even hitch on the first time through, it was once randomly in the middle. Very odd... :/

Maybe? That'd be a bummer if true. I did power down my Switch for a good 10 minutes (at least) earlier today and then went on to play around 3 maps. Didn't have any hitches during that time but I'm not gonna assume I'm completely out of the woods yet.

I don't like turn based strategy games really (apart from Pokemon but that's completely different :p )

Would anyone recommend this or is it straight up turn based like Fire Emblem which I hate.

How is this "turn based mode strategy/fighting" stuff? I hate it.

But there are other aspects of the game which look fun.

I remember a game back when (there I go again) where you didn't have to do anything during the turn-based stuff (any planning or stuff like that) and you can have the computer do it automatically for you and you just watch the outcome.

Does this have a mode like that?

Thanks...

Have you ever played the recent X-Com games like X-Com Enemy Unknown ? If so it's essentially very similar to that with some basic adventuring and puzzle elements in between skirmishes.

There is an easy mode that automates a lot of the stuff.

Two thimbs up for Sonic Mania (they do have a couple of bugs to sort out). If you grew up with the MegaDrive/Genesis its a no brainer.

SFII however, I personally think is a lazy effort with a high price tag. If it was the exact version from other consoles(no weird wii-boxing mode) and same price, i would have probably gotten it.

Upcoming games for September, for me, Thimbleweed Park(Swiitch) and Metroid Samus Returns(3DS).

Cheers

Well I may be late to the party, but I finally snagged a Switch. I have steadfastly refused to pay more than MSRP, though I did come close to ordering one on Amazon for $375 or so. Wife needed to go to Target yesterday and as usual I had us stroll by electronics to check if they happened to have any in stock. And as usual they didn't. But they also didn't have something my wife needed so we then hit Walmart. Amazingly, they had two Switches sitting in the display case--I snagged one.

I only bought Mario Kart for starters but so far I really like the system. I didn't think I would ever use it as a handheld gaming device but, to my surprise, I kind of like that aspect of it.

I also like that it is less overwhelming than my Xbox One S. I don't care if they explain it like I am five, I like it. The home screen feels more comfortable, and doesn't feel like a Times Square of confusion. It also feels faster, despite lesser hardware power.

My first new Nintendo system since the Gamecube. I wanted a Wii but never found one in stock till the desire to buy one had faded.

Congrats.

I'm finding them all over (at least 2 or 3) in all the stores I'm at in the Chicago area. Nintendo is fighting hard to keep them in stock.

There's games for everyone. Plus, looks like Nintendo will be making available many demos and previews. Awesome - can't wait for the tablet apps to show up (YouTube, Netflix, etc.).

(*pulls mine out of my laptop bag - quick game of Fast RMX*) ;)

Lucky! :)

Here in Lake Havasu City, AZ (and surrounding cities) what little stock they get is sold out quickly, as in hours. So I was surprised walmart had it. I figured it was due to Labor Day, which around here means boating and BBQs, where no one was thinking about gaming. But on the other hand the guy at GameSpot said they had just gotten their biggest shipment since like forever just a few days before (though they all sold, he said it took 2 days instead of 2 hours). So looks like Nintendo is ramping up too.

YO! I’ve been getting those issues with Mario v Rabbids! I get it now, it’s not slow down, the whole thing seems to freeze momentarily and then speed up through what it missed. It’s really annoying but thankfully it being turn based means it doesn’t impact gameplay. I only get it undocked, and I’m playing a download copy.

——-

I got a Pro controller too! And I’ve got one of those mini docks coming from China. I like the pro controller but I’m still using the joycons, just because they enable me to play in more relaxing and comfortable positions. I tell you though this is the best controller I’ve held! It’s so nice to hold. I really like what Nintendo has done. For years they’ve gone against the grain and made weird controllers. And when they finally give in and make a standard one it’s pretty much the best right from the go. The battery lasts for ages, it has a great weight to it, vibration is brilliant (especially in Tumble seed), mega comfy in the hands. And that dpad. Good gravy!

My partners currently playing that Xenoblade game on the Wii U and it looks incredible. Looking forward to the Switch sequel :)

Oh and Mario Rabbids is brilliant. Round about the 4th battle I realised I was hooked. Currently on the 3rd world and taking my time with it.
