I never could get into that Rayman game.

Donwloaded the demo last night and found my eyes drifting up to the TV rather than the Switch screen as I was bored of it. Can't see me picking it up to be honest.

Bought Sonic Mania this morning. Downloaded before work and had a quick 5 minute blast. Can't wait to play more!

I am waiting for digital foundry to do a sonic mania test. Anyone with it on switch let me know if there are any performance issues / frame rate problems. Games like this need to be consistently 60fps and I am hoping its a good port and if so I'll buy on switch ...

never mind .... bought it anyway. :)

So my son (5) has been watching a ton of YouTube Kids videos on Mario Bros Wii U and Mario Party.

He loves MK8 but I want to find some games like those former ones and let him give a try. Any recommendations or are we stuck until the Virtual Console is released or Odyssey?

He is a HUGE Mario fan.

Given the raft of indie games getting released on the Switch it is possible that the older games may be ported to switch soon, besides the next 2d platformer everyone should play is Sonic Mania ;)
Yeah, Sonic can go either way for me. (The ones that are really good are great, but some of them were really not my cuppa tea.) For example, the old sega 2d platformers were awesome. Then they changed the format for the 3d ones they did on the wii, and most of them were not great at all. Then later they changed the format again a couple of times for the sonic games on WiiU (both Sonic Boom and Lost world for WiiU I really enjoyed quite alot). So it depends what they do with it. Was sonic Mania the one that was made by fans rather than Sega themselves? Might try this one either way, especially if you reckon it's worth picking up!

I've got a little theory. Nintendo have either been releasing or heavily promoting one major new release on Switch a month. I dunno if they hope to continue this pattern, but if they do I reckon next year we'll see a lot of Wii U ports. I think the reason we got Mario Kart 8 and not Smash Bros is because Arms was due for release and maybe they didn't see a killer racing game in its upcoming library. I think we'll get a New Mario All Stars like game next year - as the switch hasn't got a killer platformer yet.
Definitely up for any mario platformers, I love platformers generallly. The next good quality platformer for switch will be the definitive edition of Rayman Legends. Was great on the WiiU, but never finished it. (kept meaning to go back and play it, but just got caught up in other games so never did). So the Switch version is definitely on my list for this year.

I agree with your theory that new games seem to be coming out each month. I'm seeing tonnes of new ones pop up from all over the place at the moment. (Probably more than I'll ever have time to fully play) This month has two that are already coming, but the rest of this year has easily got at least one that I'm ordering. (now to try and figure out how to freeze time so that I can enjoy them all properly) lol.

Rayman on the 12th should tide us over ;)
You beat me to it on that one. (just realized you had already mentioned it when I replied to Dagless).

Anyone know if Sonic Mania will be getting a physical release on the Switch?
Yeah, it's on amazon already from what I can see...
(seems to be a pre-order though, because it's a collector's edition with a figurine) but I could have sworn I had seen the game available somewhere in physical form, so thought I would check this for you...)

Sonic Mania is the fan made Megadtive / Genesis game by fans. essentially the proper Sonic we all wanted for last 20 years.

The Sonic Forces out next month is the new Sonic game like GENERATIONS but has already been receiving mediocre preview response so I am expecting a turkey on that one.

HOW GOOD IS SONIC MANIA?! It's very good. I've reached the end with only 5 chaos emeralds and half of those sphere levels finished. It's great. I love it!

Trying to be as critical as I can, I think Sonic 2 (MD) is still my favourite. But certainly better than the rest.

I never liked 3&K. I found the levels were too big and therefore not as memorable or interesting as 1 and 2. Mania has huge levels too and I can't remember much of them, but they're fun to play through. The music is much the same - great jaunty tunes with some stuck in my head.

Demo available right now...

Played a few seconds - just like the consoles!

(Actually got rid of my Wii U version - didn't really like doing stuff on the touchscreen).
I absolutely loved Rahman Origins but didn't bother with Legends. I didn't like the touchscreen stuff - and now on the newer systems they want you to still control the touchscreen chap with button presses. That's an awful design. It just pulls away too much from the main gameplay. I was really considering picking it up for Switch and give it another chance… but the demo reminded me I won't get on with the full game :(

Fun fact! I was at EGX when Origins was on show, and I got to report a lot of bugs :) and I got to play Legends when that was at E3 but there were no Murphy sections in the demo.

ha, ha... they have their review online...

They said that the Switch version's 3D levels don't run at the 60fps. Maybe there will be a patch?

Got Sonic Manic on my Swiitch. There's something weird going on with the home button in-game.

I was finally able to pick up a Switch. To start I picked up Mario Kart and Sonic Mania. Haven't had a chance to play either game yet, but definitely reminds me of my childhood with these two games.

The game I'm really looking forward to is Super Mario Odyssey.

Switch's seem more available. One of the Targets I was at just got in 4 of each one...

The Gamestop I was just at got them in and sell them by themselves (not their bundle) - great if you got older systems to trade...

Yeah a desperate lag ... Hopefully should get patched

It's obvious the Swiitch is under-powered for this game. ;)

Saw a couple of of Swiitches at my local target the other day. I have yet to see a single Neon Switch in real life.

Oh yeah, they are definitely more available now. I got mine at my local Best Buy since I have the Gamer Club thing. But the Target next door also had them in stock. Here they usually get 4-5 in stock and they sell out same day usually. But it's still much easier to get it seems.

I’ve been trying to work out what’s going on with that. Sonic Mania isn’t a draining game - it gets more battery life than Minecraft, Zelda, and Splatoon and the fans don’t kick in quite as much. It’s not stressing the system and the ingame controls are responsive as usual. But the system UI within the game is broken. I imagine there’s a UI call on loop, but yet there’s no lag from the volume buttons which you’d think is part of the system UI.

I know they’ll never tell us what is happening but I’m super mega curious over it!

I’ve got 2 sets of joycons - grey and neon. When I’m out and about I like to use the neon ones just because they’re iconic now ;) but all I see in public are the grey ones too.

L.

I'm actually amazed this bug clearly in the game passed QA for it to be released on the store as it was.

I hit another repeatable one in Flying Battery Zone 2 where the player can get stuck in a wall. It’s pretty buggy! Also an interesting thing I’d love to see... in debug mode on Green Hill you can spawn physics balls that interact with the environment and each other - they must be pretty demanding. I didn’t count but I did hammer the CREATE button dropping countless of them into the world. It took a long time before there was any slowdown on the Switch version... but now I’m mega curious to see how many it takes before there’s slowdown, and how each of the other consoles stack up too.

Also! I 100%ed it. Unlocked everything except for getting all gold medals on the Blue Sphere stuff but content-wise it’s done. AND YET I keep playing through. It may be my fave Sonic game now!

Which led me into a thought this weekend - the Switch seems to (arguably) have THE BEST games from respective series and it’s only 4 months old. Zelda is arguably the best it has ever been, Cave Story is one of the best platform/adventure games, Mario Kart 8 is the best of that series, Splatoon 2 is a huge improvement over the first, Disgaea 5, Metal Slug 2+3 (I love the series but I always see fans are split between those as their faves), Minecraft is also considered one of the most played games in recent years. And in Japan there’s Monster Hunter XX which is a “BEST OF” mix of all previous MH games.

Technically games should get better each iteration but that isn’t always the case. So it’s neat that the Switch has so many games (most are non-exclusives though) that are the best of their series and it’s still so young.

The Swiitch 'bendgate' seems to still be a thing, with some new Japanese users reporting bent consoles recently (some right out of the box). I reckon its within manufacturing tolerance, as a couple of friends and myself have noticed the same with out consoles.

You've had that problem?

I read the new reports also and kind of worried this can happen if the system gets too hot while playing during hours.

@Sensamic This dude got a replacement from Nintendo which was bent. If you scrub to 2:20, you can see how "bent" it is. Mine is a little less bent than the one in the video.

Haven't really had the time to play much lately due to reasons, but I did end up picking up the Splatoon 2 themed joy cons for my Switch. I'm usually not one who buys a lot of accessories or extra controllers for my consoles, but somehow the Switch has made me buy a pro controller and an extra set of joy cons, despite the fact that I primarily play on it by myself.

They sure do look nice and sharp though. Funny how I didn't really like the Neon Red and Blue ones but I really have taken to Neon Green and Pink.:D

Digital Foundry were impressed with Skyrim on Swiitch in portable mode. A consistent 720p30 , apparently.

Having never played this game before, I'm pretty stoked.

Cheers

I've played it countless times but will still pick it up for switch even if a release date is still ??? (Nothing 100% definitive).

Good god I'm so absorbed in Disgaea 5 at the moment, it just keeps on adding huge new features even at 25 hours into it!

Just picked up Forma 8 (metroidvania type exploration/action). Looks and plays gorgeously, really thick atmosphere. Too early to give any real review on it though.

Oh! And I tried that Monster Hunter demo and now I really want the game to be translated and released in Europe :).

Unsure about getting Skyrim. I was really excited for it but each time I play it (PC, PS4) I go in expecting LOTR but it's just a bit soulless. We'll see. Would have loved the PSVR version too but the teleportation moving system sounds clunky as all hell.
