Given the raft of indie games getting released on the Switch it is possible that the older games may be ported to switch soon, besides the next 2d platformer everyone should play is Sonic Mania
Yeah, Sonic can go either way for me. (The ones that are really good are great, but some of them were really not my cuppa tea.) For example, the old sega 2d platformers were awesome. Then they changed the format for the 3d ones they did on the wii, and most of them were not great at all. Then later they changed the format again a couple of times for the sonic games on WiiU (both Sonic Boom and Lost world for WiiU I really enjoyed quite alot). So it depends what they do with it. Was sonic Mania the one that was made by fans rather than Sega themselves? Might try this one either way, especially if you reckon it's worth picking up!
I've got a little theory. Nintendo have either been releasing or heavily promoting one major new release on Switch a month. I dunno if they hope to continue this pattern, but if they do I reckon next year we'll see a lot of Wii U ports. I think the reason we got Mario Kart 8 and not Smash Bros is because Arms was due for release and maybe they didn't see a killer racing game in its upcoming library. I think we'll get a New Mario All Stars like game next year - as the switch hasn't got a killer platformer yet.
Definitely up for any mario platformers, I love platformers generallly. The next good quality platformer for switch will be the definitive edition of Rayman Legends. Was great on the WiiU, but never finished it. (kept meaning to go back and play it, but just got caught up in other games so never did). So the Switch version is definitely on my list for this year.
I agree with your theory that new games seem to be coming out each month. I'm seeing tonnes of new ones pop up from all over the place at the moment. (Probably more than I'll ever have time to fully play) This month has two that are already coming, but the rest of this year has easily got at least one that I'm ordering. (now to try and figure out how to freeze time so that I can enjoy them all properly) lol.

Rayman on the 12th should tide us over
You beat me to it on that one. (just realized you had already mentioned it when I replied to Dagless).

Anyone know if Sonic Mania will be getting a physical release on the Switch?
Yeah, it's on amazon already from what I can see...
(seems to be a pre-order though, because it's a collector's edition with a figurine) but I could have sworn I had seen the game available somewhere in physical form, so thought I would check this for you...)
