I've played it countless times but will still pick it up for switch even if a release date is still ??? (Nothing 100% definitive).

Mario Odyssey is the only major game on my radar for the holiday season, so I wouldnt be too fussed if Skyrim got delayed past the end of the year.

From what digital foundry had to say, it seems like the pubs/devs are actually putting in some heart&soul and blood&sweat into the port, for a change. That isn't something i'm accustomed to as a Nintendo fanboy. So, I'm looking forward to supporting that effort (unless, of course there are major issues with the final release, which...from what I hear about Skyrim on other platforms, is entirely possible). :)

Cheers

Well Mario Odyssey in October and let's not forget Xenoblade Chronicles in November should keep my Switch busy too ...:)

Just tried the Pokken demo. It’s fun! I’ve been wanting to get into that new Tekken game on PS4 but I’ve never liked how you have to memorise movelists for each fighter, and I expected Pokken to be similar so held off on it with the Wii U. So imagine my surprise to play it and it’s as simple to play as Smash Bros! I’ll definitely be picking this one up. The demos available on the US and EU eShops at the moment but you can only play a limited number of fights.

I just played (downloaded last night) forma.8 for the Switch - only $10 (it is on sale for other systems but wanted to give Switch the nod).

It is beautifully awesome!

It controls just like Atari Lunar Lander... (but with the stick now instead of four buttons).

You can just explore around (love that).

Beautiful retro-scifi aesthetics.

Buying and downloading now for AppleTV 4 (controller required - yay! No more Siri remote requirement!) as I want to give the nod to AppleTV Gaming as well...

Really looking forward to Mario and Rabbids tonight. Well. Hoping it’s a midnight release like other non-Thursday eshop releases!

Currently 45 hours into Disgaea and they’re still unlocking huge gameplay features. It’s gotta end soon.

Mine (physical copy) is due to arrive tomorrow and have to say I'm really looking forward to Mario & Rabbids.

After weeks of dark souls 3 and bloodborne being my main play, i need the bright light hearted world for a change ...

I havent seen much about it but is it an RPG?

Would it be good for a 5 year old? My son is craving some Mario but the Switch is letting him down so far minus MK8. :)

No it's basically fireaxis's XCOM reboot. Turn based strategy that is reportedly quite deep and very challenging even if the bright Nintendo aesthetics would fool you otherwise. Honestly it looks awesome :)

However it's sadly not a kids game, it's meant to be challenging for adults so not sure appropriate for your 5 year old.

I remember trying to play the original Xcom on the Amiga when I was about 7, and I had no clue what I was doing :D but who knows maybe the Mario one is simpler to understand and maybe kids are smarter these days?

You could always buy it and if your kid doesn’t like it you can get a refund if requested within 2 weeks.

Rats!

Maybe i can play and let him add in his little flair here and there. I don't know any of the games you mentioned above but hungry for Switch content so I may grab it.

He has wanted Splatoon 2 but unsure if thats a good one either for him.

Mario + Rabbids is pretty good! Only played maybe 30-40 mins of it last night but really enjoying it so far. Played it in handheld mode and unfortunately there seems to be some technical issues as there were a couple of "freezes" where audio continues to play but the video stopped for a moment, only to suddenly refresh and "catch up."

Not sure if that will occur in docked mode but it's an unfortunate blemish on what seems to be an otherwise fun and engaging game.

I played similar amount docked yesterday but didn't experience those. There was a patch when I put in the game and checked for software update. I'll try handheld later and see if same thing happens to me.

I bought it digitally and it didn't prompt me for a patch, so maybe it was included in the initial download?

It happened twice. The first time I think happened when Mario initially met up with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Luigi, I can't remember for sure. The second time happened right before where I decided to stop for the night, which was when Beep-0 got the attachment to provide our heroes with their special abilities. It hitched right when it was introducing Rabbid Peach's ability (the animation of the orb dropping down to her hitched for a moment, then the shield appeared around her) and then was fine again after.

It's interesting because I listened to Jeff Gerstmann talk about the game on the latest Bombcast and funnily enough he mentioned how the game might not be super smooth in docked mode, so now I'm a bit more concerned than before. Thus far it hasn't happened during gameplay, only during cutscenes, so there's that at least.

Yeah, unfortunately this is true. Both me and my daughter were really looking forward to it, as they're two of our favorite franchises rolled into one. I downloaded mine first night, but after playing it for a little while, I can already tell that I think my daughter's probably not going to get into the RPG side of this game so well. (She's not had chance to try it yet since I got it, so I'll let you know if I turn out to be wrong). However, the cutscenes are awesome though, and I think she'll get a huge kick out of those.

I haven't played it enough to be able to form my own opinion of the actual game part yet, but I have to say on first play, I do feel a little underwhelmed compared to how good I thought this was going to be. (I'm hoping I'm gonna get more into it the more I play it) I'm loving the overworld Mario map side of things so far, but the RPG element of it that is most of the game is the part that I'm not sure I'm that into yet, so I really hope that part does grow on me, as I had high hopes for this game, and it would really bum me out if I turn out not like it.

One game that did surprise me though in the opposite way to what I expected, the new "Minecraft Story Mode" game looked a little crappy on the demos we saw on steam. (at first it seemed like this was less of a game, and more of a *partially* interactive movie that you spent more time watching than actually the interactive parts where you actually play anything) Basically the demo spent more time on the cut-scenes, and what they showed didn't even look that entertaining of a story. Most of what we saw on that looked like dead footage of nothing much really happening, attempts at jokes that really weren't at all funny, and cheesy characters that weren't at all endearing). However, playing the game was a totally different experience. My daughter had been following it on youtube, and got to see way more of it than we saw on that demo, and begged me to get for her Switch. Now that she has it, she's absolutely loving it, and is playing this alot. Turns out there is alot more to do than the demo made out, the story does get more interesting, and the jokes are alot funnier. (so looks like steam just chose the wrong parts to showcase on the demo, so whoever put that together ought to be fired). Don't get me wrong, I still prefer playing the original minecraft on switch compared to playing the story mode version personally, but the story mode version is still way better than I thought, and has quickly become one of my daughter's favorites.

HOW GOOD IS SONIC MANIA?! It's very good. I've reached the end with only 5 chaos emeralds and half of those sphere levels finished. It's great. I love it!

PS: Thanks to all the heads up everybody on Sonic Mania. Downloaded this myself aswell on all your recommendations, and really getting a kick out of that so far. (even just the music in certain zones is worth it for the nostalgia alone, but the game itself is alot of fun, and just how I remember it from back in the day). Probably my favorite of the three new Switch games I've played this month. Ironic that it was actually the cheapest.

Does anyone else not like the a b buttons on switch joycon?

Too stiff my 3ds xl has nice travel squishiness

Then again I don't like the individual d pad directional buttons either

I hate the dpad buttons. Sorry Nintendo but that was a bad move. At least I don't have to use them with my pro controller.

It feels wrong on puyo Tetris and street fighter in particular/most of all

And binding of Isaac but I use the joystick

How do ya feel about a/b/x/y?

Really uncomfy holding down a in mario kart for example, being not squishy press or surface areas

If I don't set to auto accelerate

I so wish handheld mode was just more comfy in general

TBH I play most of the time with the pro controller even when using the device in handheld mode simply because I find the joycon controllers to be ok but not very comfy for extended play.

Probably a good strategy. U just use a hori stand or something?

I find that even detached joycon while comfy to not have hands together doesn't overcome my gripes with joycon even attached to the rails

Glad there is a pro controller! Phew

Especially when I was playing lots of BoTW but need to get back into using it regularly for most things and do your approach

Used in the "marketing" way haha awesome

I'd be worried abojt that thing falling face first. Then again I use the hori stand on my couch. Sometimes on my end stand next to my couch but not often

To me the sticks and triggers are more of an issue than the buttons. I played some single player on Splatoon 2 in handheld mode and hated how it felt compared to playing with the pro controller. On the flip side, it felt fine when I played Mario + Rabbids in handheld mode. Might have to do with what kind of expectations I have with the game I'm playing...?

I think so. Ive been doing lots of Splatoon in handhel,d but it gets uncomfortable quick for me too

and i realized table mode w pro controller, I need to take off the joycons for Mario + Rabbids,

Table mode w/o joycons honestly is pretty clean anyways :D
