YO! I’ve been getting those issues with Mario v Rabbids! I get it now, it’s not slow down, the whole thing seems to freeze momentarily and then speed up through what it missed. It’s really annoying but thankfully it being turn based means it doesn’t impact gameplay. I only get it undocked, and I’m playing a download copy.
.

I'm still yet to have it (freezing or stutters or even slowdown) myself. It's a real strange one. I've actively been looking for it too, yet nada. It's a strange one.

Yeah it is brill. Ubisoft have redeemed themselves and the rabbids.

@GeekishlyGreek

...Oh yeah....Metroid Returns.... a Metroid game after almost 10 years!! That's next on my list.

You got to admit, it's pretty great to have so many good-to-great games to choose from on a Nintendo system. And i'm glad that's the case, despite the lack of showing from the big pubs.
Yeah, definitely getting that one! Speaking of metroid, just when I already thought I had too many games to play, two more I've just discovered are being released this month that I REEEEEEEALY realy want! (one of them is a 3rd party Metroid clone). It's called "Morphite" (obviously it's not as graphically as amazing as proper Metroid games, but as a game itself, it looks like it was made by someone who really knows the Metroid series well, and has put everything that us Metroid fans would like!

I learned about it from a youtube video of all the games out this month for switch (so props to these guys for showing me this)

The other game released this month that I really want is Lego Worlds (I normally like the lego games, but there are so many of them, some great, some not so great, that when I originally saw this one on amazon, I was like "meh, we'll see". However, after seeing the YouTube vid and them saying it's a lego game that has been done like Minecraft, I'm now REALLY excited to play it!! They've priced it pretty well aswell (is closer to 30 bucks than the outrageous 70 bucks that too many people are charging even for not so great games on switch, so I definitely want to encourage the better price points, and glad to see a decent game franchise charging more sensible prices!) Amazon uk actually has it for around 25 bucks for the physical copy of the game at the mo, so that's priced even better still, but I'm probably going to get the downloaded version (providing they don't jack the price up). If I like it as much as I think I will though, I'll probably get the physical game for my daughter (as she doesn't have a microSD card yet, and download it for mine, as I've put a pretty big microSD card in mine, and intend to go as digital as I can whenever the difference in price isn't too steep)

Re: Mario & Rabbids - I still have not encountered frame rate drops or stutters in docked or handheld mode on my physical retail copy. I spent a good 4 hours playing last night.

I wonder if the issue is related to downloaded versions only.
Good observation! -You may be right judging by everybody's comparisons on here. For what it's worth, I've not had any glitches or frame rate drops on mine though (and mine's a download copy) However, I'm not that far into the game yet, so it's also highly possible that those sorts of bugs don't start to happen until later on in the game as things start to get more complex. Too early for me to say though at this stage. Will let you know if I get any.

L.A. Noire confirmed for Switch on Novembmer 18th along with PS4 and XONE.
PS4 Version will have PS4 Pro support.

I am OVERJOYED at this news. L.A. Noire is one of my favourite games ever, and is so unique in its play style with the interrogation system.

Cannot wait. :D

LA Noire is coming to Switch. Now I fully believe Rockstar will port GTAV to the platform. They seem to be taking an interest in it, and GTAV is still a huge success remaining seemingly permanently in the UK charts years after its original release.

It’s just the versatility of the Switch. When I’m at home I don’t get much time to play games and big games especially never get played, but when I’m out I get pockets of free time that I used to spend just browsing the internet, now filled with playing Switch games instead. So I never got to dive into GTAV as much as I wanted to though I really enjoyed the time I did spend in it. Would like a PSVR version too, but Switch more than anything!

Just picked up a Neuro Voider. Looks like my kind of thing but like all these other games it just lacks a soul. Still enjoyable mind you. Tempted to pick up that Lichtspear game too, it’s the coop support that’s pushing me to buy it.

The only thing that Rockstar profits from with GTAV now is GTA Online, and given the Rube Goldberg machine that the Switch becomes in the face of online multiplayer, that have absolutely no incentive to put the time into porting it this late in life, and Sony's refusal to allow crossplay on virtually anything means that the largest console audience for any multiplayer would be absent. And, of course, there's the bloody size of the game itself. The install for GTAV on most consoles is generally 100 - 120GB for the initial install with a persistent data file of in excess of 60GB. That means, beyond requiring a mammoth SD card to even install it, even if that managed to optimise that by 50%, that's an enormous resource hog, unlike Noire's svelte 5GB install. Add into that Rockstar is deep into development on RDR2; if it's even a tenth as troubled as the first one, there's going to be no one left to handle the workload of porting to the Switch.

L.A. Noire makes sense from a porting perspective; excellent single-player campaign with decent DLC, the game is considered a cult classic with good word of mouth, and the definitive edition sells for quite a sum new even to this day, often about US$80. To get half of that amount for what is almost certainly a digital-only title means the numbers are good.

How's Sonic Mania or Street Fighter II Ultra?

I'm thinking about one or the other.

Bless
If it's a choice between Sonic Mania or Street Fighter II, definitely go with Sonic! Sonic Mania is an excellent remake, but Streetfighter II, not so much. (don't get me wrong, loved the originals of both those games). But what they did for thew Switch version of Streetfighter was really terrible. They've tried to say it was a new game, whilst keeping most of it identical to the original. (normally, keeping to the originals of a game is not a bad thing, but they way they've done it in this one just feels sort of half-assed). What i mean by that is, they haven't modernized it enough to feel like a game of today's standards, yet the changes they made to the look of the characters completely takes away the nostalgia feeling you could have had aswell (sort of a worst of both worlds scenario). They even managed to spoil the voices of the characters in this, where it just feels shoddily done.

So if you want a good streetfighter II game, best to seek it out cheap on another console. (good SFII remakes have been released on so many different consoles now, and nearly all of them way better than this poor attempt). But for Switch, Sonic Mania hands down wins that battle. (No contest)

Just started Cave Story+ last night.

If you've never played the game (like me), wow, it's an indie masterpiece! Couldn't put it down.
It really is wonderful. Such a lovely story and interesting world. I’m replaying it for the 4th time now (I think, maybe 5th or 6th!) and trying to get the second ending that I’ve never done before.

But on the flip side, knowing the hit it is Nintendo might ask them to port it over to get more online subscribers. The network side of it is much simpler than the Wii U this time around. There’s nothing overtly complex about it and it’s quite transparent... equal to PSN or XBL in that regard.

I can’t put it down. All I’m playing now is that game and I’m replaying so many old levels to get a Perfect score. The challenges really are that, I even struggle on the easy ones! Story wise I’m up to World 3 but I’m enjoying it so much that I really don’t want this to end.

The magic thing about this game is how it makes you use different characters for your team. For example, in Disgaea I only use the same 10 characters over and over. In MvR I flip between long and short range focussed characters - though I wish I could drop Mario from the team. God he’s useless. I really want to use Luigi, Peach, and Rabbid Luigi in a team but it just won’t let me. Grrr.

I adore Rabbid Mario’s personality! I love how during the battle set up screen he’ll just lean on a wall all cool like, if there’s one nearby. I love how he ducks if a shot goes over his head. What a personality. And what a powerful character! Though I much prefer Peach; healing AND tank abilities AND grenades AND lots of health AND a shotgun AND Royal Gaze. Yes please!

What hit, from a numbers perspective? It's sitting on what, a 4mn install base at the moment? At least half are probably children and young adults, so some tiny proportion of 2mn that wants the ability to play GTAV for a whole thirty minutes untethered from their television before it kills the battery. Online connectivity might well be on par traditional home consoles but Splatoon 2 makes it apparent that chat definitely is not. They can already play the game far more simply, with fewer compromises on the other traditional console they almost certainly have so that leaves only mobile. How many people will want to burn through their mobile data to play a rapidly aging online shooter whose development resources will be transferred to RDR2's multiplayer within a year?

The timing and profit for such a venture is all wrong.

GTA V for the Switch would be awesome but I don't see that happening, or any other GTA, for one reason: memory size.

How much would the game cost if they needed a 64GB card or more? Would be much more expensive on the Switch vs the competition.

We need to see if there's a game for the Switch bigger than 40/50GB.

Well Nintendo has said some games will require the purchase of a memory card, so you never know! :)

I'm actually wondering for all of us who have download copies, who has it on the system storage and who has it on an SD card, and if that makes a difference.

Someone did a comparison back in the day of I think Zelda and the difference in load times between game card, system storage and SD card. On-board storage was the fastest while SD card was the slowest, and I'm wondering if that is contributing to the "hitching" that some of us are seeing...

I've been trying to find some solid information, but YouTube and some gamer sites have contradictory info... has Nintendo released any news on a Virtual Console release? This is really the only thing holding me back from picking up a Switch. I still think the original Zelda is one of my favorite games, and as frustrating as it was, the original Metroid. o_O

It's crazy that I can pick up my Wii or WiiU and have that huge library available to me, and this brand new tech... nope.

Well sadly I have had my first couple of hitches last night, in portable mode. No slowdown, but the freeze / hitch thing.

I think we just have to wait for a patch and hopefully it comes quicker than the sonic mania patch that still isn't here ???

Nintendo Direct: Wednesday the 13th, 3:00pm Pacific.
45 minutes long, covering Switch games (including Odyssey) and 3DS games.

All we know: retro games play some kind of role in their new online subscription service for 2018. They've talked about providing free retro games playable in a 4-week window, updated with online multiplayer. They've also talked about more of a Netflix (AKA "NESFlix") approach where you have access to a catalog as long as your subscribed.

Here's hoping we learn more on Wednesday, during the aforementioned Direct.

Any bets that Mario Odyssey gets delayed?
I don't think so.
  • A 1st party Switch title has yet to be delayed
  • It's been playable at multiple events, and from what I've seen (and played) it's near-final
  • November 17th is the weekend (Friday before Black Friday) that Nintendo usually selects for their biggest releases. The fact that they chose to bump their biggest Holiday game up ahead of this date tells me that they were really confident in its timely completion.

OH MAN I am getting Doom again. Flawed for sure but I really enjoyed tip toeing through it looking for all the secrets. And was planning on getting Wolfenstein 2 on PS4 but I guess I’m getting that on Switch too. Apparently id had built an engine that really milks the Switchs graphics card so I’m excited to see how it looks, but I expect 720p60 without any bad feelings. Nintendo’s really killing this first year. I don’t think any console has had this many decent games in its first year (I got a PS4 6 months into its life and daaaamn that was a dry first year). Love seeing all these big devs clambering over the Switch.

Surprised to not see any Mario Odyssey stuff but maybe that’s just Eurogamer not covering it all? But I doubt that’s the case. No Mario delays are a good thing.

After hearing about Skyrim VR’s teleportation movement system I’ll be skipping that for the Switch version.

Skyrim, Doom, and GTA are all I regularly play on PS4 now. If it wasn’t for PSVR I’d be getting dangerously close to putting it into storage.

Well for me its looking like

Mario Odyssey
Skyrim
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Snipperclips Plus DLC

Possibly LA Noire (maybe PS4 Pro)

Not bad bunch to see the end of the year out on. Not really bothered about Pokemon DX or Fire Emblem Warriors at the moment but reviews could sway me.

I really need to get back to playing more Snipperclips, that game is charming as hell.

I'm was surprised to see Xenoblade getting a 2017 release date, I almost would've bet money it would turn out to be a 2018 game. Mario Odyssey was the only not yet released game that I had been planning to buy this year, but Xenoblade may sway me... depends on how my 2017 backlog goes and it might be prudent to wait for a price drop first, as I'm sure I will likely buy it and not get around to playing it until it eventually drops in price anyways, causing me to curse my unreasonable need to buy stuff on day 1.

Still reeling from last nights announcements. Very tempted to pick up that new Kingdom game on the eShop too. Apparently it’s like a tower defence thing with roguelike elements … so yeah right up my street! Also got into Neuro Voider yesterday too. It’s good but I find the locations boring and the art style generic compared to similar games. I keep hoping for the gameplay to suck me in and I really appreciate how the devs haven’t overly explained some functions. But I still just aren’t getting hooked on it.

Pokken did not interest me enough to buy it for Wii U but the Switch demo grabbed me.

Ooh I hope they bring classic Doom to Switch too :) and that Duke Nukem 3D World Tour.

So I’m nearing the end of Mario v Rabbids and it’s been one hell of an adventure. Definitely earned a place in my all time Top 10, especially due to the final levels that I struggled on for ages. Currently going through it to 100% it but I’m bracing myself for the end of this wonderful little gem. Do give it a look even if you’re not into strategy games. The art is incredible, I still can’t get over how nice the world looks or how catchy the music is and how “Nintendo” it all feels. Ubisoft nailed it and I reckon we’ll get a sequel eventually. (And hope that the DLC levels are good!)

Basically you should get it.
