I played my switch tonight as a handheld
Which I very rarely do. It is buzzing like it has a broken fan inside of it. Anybody have this problem?

Rocket league on switch has revolutionized pooping for me.

I bought the physical copy on sale at Best Buy for $20 - I guess no one is really buying it since most of us bought it online not knowing they were going to have a cart for it. Plus it was $40 (but had DLC). Even though I had the download, the only DLC I have is he DeLorean. So buying the cart it came with $20 worth of downloads.

Was wondering how the extras were going to work, but it the only thing on the cart is the game - the DLC are on a card so I used that no problem.

Nice that Nintendo is making the Devs program the game so the cart is useable without the Internet for future gaming when the services are no longer available.

So my understanding is the dock barely has any tech in it. Would be cool if they released a "mini dock", basically a cable with a plug, for travelling! I'd love to be able to just plug it into any hotel tv.

How are you Switch veterans finding the build quality and durability of the console?

Mine is three weeks old and I'm already having to send the left joycon away for repair. After about a week the thumbstick started making clicking, pinging noises, like there was a spring working loose in there, rotating the stick became less smooth, and eventually pressing down on the stick made it creak and groan.

I'd have bought a spare controller to tide me over while this one is repaired, but the price is double what I'd happily pay. Also there's some unwanted movement in both controllers when they're docked to the console - a small amount of play at the bottom of the rail.

Doesn't bode well for the long term, I haven't had a console break down since the early days of the Xbox 360.

I expect they'll just replace it, there are probably no repairable parts in there. The alternative would have been to send the whole thing back to Amazon for a refund, which would have meant losing all my save data.

I think I went through four Xbox 360s before finally getting one I didn't have to wrap in a towel to get it working. Controllers always wear out eventually (ideally not after a fortnight) but I wish these ones weren't so expensive.

1. The tablet seems to be warped a little out of the box (confirmed on several friends' consoles as well).

2. The tablet (screen and case) seem to scratch very easily(including by the supplied dock).

I bought my Switch on launch day and I haven't had any issues with it. My only complaint about the Switch's build quality is their cheap, plastic screen (hence I use a tempered glass screen protector). It feels like a really cheap move on Nintendo's part, especially considering that we've all been using phones/tablets/etc with really good glass screens for years now.

If I had even a single issue with mine, let alone all the ones you had, I would have returned it for a new one. Sounds like you got a lemon.

Got mine about 3 weeks after launch (when Target got a bunch in from when Nintendo flew them over?).

No problems whatsoever.

I would imagine with the way the have to pump these things out, quality is going to lack a bit...

I just bought a budget GPU for my budget PC build, a good price for open box. Found out it was open box for a reason - didn't quite work (gave rendering errors during games).

Same with GPU's - they're pumping those things out so who knows how the quality control is...

Producing mass quantity doesn’t mean poor quality - look at where we are , an Apple forum -remind me again how many iPhones apples makes a quarter.....and are any fraction of these sub quality?

I'm not super happy with the build quality.

The joycons wobble a little bit in handheld mode. I would have liked if they didn't move a millimeter. But I guess that is to be expected when you have parts of the console that can be separated.

Also mine has two strange color spots on the back. Don't know how they appeared.

I went through 5 different Switch until I got one I thought was ok.

I opened a few with scratches out of the box on both the tablet and joycons, one with the joycons that didn't aligned straight with the tablet, etc. Too many issues.

I wish the joycons felt completely tight when in handheld mode.

I would hope Apple and a $1000 smartphone is going to have better QC than a Game Company and a $300 console...

Well Switchgate never really happened on the web so much like the 8 people I know with switches quality must be ok or better. Never really had a problem with my game boy, 3ds , N64, SNES or GameCube hardware or controllers either so I’d be surprised to see the big N drop the ball although these things happen - I’m looking at you MS with the EPIC red ring of death fiasco ;]

Well I got my Switch and love it! It’s a fantastic little device! I’ve played a bit of Mario Kart, but mainly Tiny Metal and Hollow. I haven’t plugged it into the telly yet. I also have DOOM to play on it :)

I find the build quality ok, the screws on the back look like they were over tightened a bit by hand, but other then that it’s fine, really enjoyable not it, still find it funny an entire console is in such a small device.

Just wish the battery lasted longer haha, but I’ll try it on my telly at some point.

only issue I've had with my Switch is the left (blue) controller. When not attached to the Switch, it has interference. I need to send it in, I just haven't yet.

There was a pretty short warranty on those, expired now. I was able to call customer service and basically talk them down from a $40 repair to free by expressing dissatisfaction with the price. Good luck!

Mine was a launch console with the known interference issue. All it takes is a tiny stick-on of a mesh piece to fix it. If I had to I'd open it myself I guess.

I have found the build quality to be alright, the unit certainly has a bit of heft to it. Their is a slight tiny bigger gap on one side then the other between the unit and joycons. One of the joysticks has a slightly noisy spring every now and then, and I resolved the plastic screen by having a really cool Zelda sock on my dock, and being careful with the console, I put it in the case I have when not in use.

What’s the best think to use to clean the screen? Water and a micro fibre cloth? As it’s plastic I’m thinking maybe my glasses cleaning cloth as those are plastic lenses I think.

The little beasty has become my favourite console, no buyers remorse or anything, when I finish playing my indie games and get into DOOM and Mario Kart I’ll try it on the telly more, I’ll compare DOOM in my Xbox One S and Switch, they have an update for DOOM graphics too.

Been playing through HOLLOW which has some genuinely jumpy scary bits in it!

I’ve been really happy with my gadgets this year, got my Apple Watch and an Echo Dot for Christmas, and about two thirds the cost of the Switch in birthday money, I was saving my penny’s last year for it too :) and I am really happy with all of them.

My broken left joycon has been away for over two weeks now, which means my new Switch console has been out of action for almost as long as it was actually working. Got an email today to say they'd 'started work' on a repair and would send it back within 7 working days.
edit: they're delivering it tomorrow. Hurrah! Hope I can remember how to play Xenoblade.
