The narrow form factor is a MUCH worse disease IMO, closer to a plague. Let me get this straight, the next Samsung flagship will be too narrow, have those curved edges AND have a notch? Yeah, no thanks. As much as I enjoy getting the new version of Android 9 months late and being unable to root my phone, I think I'll pass.

Yeah, I rather like the iPhone X design and feel that it's superior to any other "bezel less" design out there. The entire uproar over the notch is really baffling to me anyhow, it's just a bezel that doesn't go all the way across, what's the big deal? Look at it as a plus, the space that the status bar used to take has now been moved up and you gain a bit of screen real estate. It seems to me that phone makers are just using common sense.

I'll argue that it does indeed look better. When I initially saw leaked pics I hated it. But now I actually like it and highly prefer it over a full sized bezel. I think that on some subconscious level I really appreciate the boost in functionality that it offers by moving the status bar up. I'm definitely a sucker for functionality and this wouldn't be the first time that I like something that maybe not as aesthetically pleasing because it improves functionality. To flip that a bit, whenever I get onto a non notch phone I become slightly annoyed to not find the notch because I know there is wasted screen space.
I think other oems aren't copying Apple out of fashion, I don't believe there is a big vibe out there saying the notch is aesthetically pleasing. But as you say, there is much more of a feeling that the notch is not aesthetically pleasing. But it's not surprising that oems realize the benefits of a notch, and that reality dictates you still need space for sensors and front camera.
Hey Doc, haven't seen you around these parts of late--nice to see you drop in.
