A gentleman on the Apple support boards reports that his stock 20" has recently been moved on to "preparing for shipment" as of about 11pm EST.

I decided to do the right thing and ordered from a small reseller here in Aus. Paid the $1,000 deposit, only to be told:

"Oh yeah, it should be here in three weeks, but no guarantees."

And that's just for a standard 17-inch with upgraded hard drive and RAM, nothing special. I think I'll give the online Apple Store a go next time.

I also only got 2-day...we should have splurged and gone with the next day (it would arrive on a saturday in that case).

Haha! I had suspicions that that would happen, so I did an online order ... no being left in the dark about shipping or anything.

ETA for my base model 17" with BT Keyboard and mouse is next friday.

UK order here for the 20" iMac, put after the announcement on Tuesday the 3rd evening.

The confirmation email had initial estimate for 5 days for build and 3-7 days for shipping. On Wednesday midnight I received the dispatched email with tracking number for TNT UK. Yesterday (Thur 5th) the item was shown on their tracking system as received on the central depot.

I'm not quite sure were it has been shipped from, but currently it's morning on Friday the 6th and I called them to find out if it's coming today and they said that it's going to be here tomorrow morning. That's quite fast, considering I've used the standard free shipping option. Maybe it is because I have ordered the standard spec model with no optional extras, thus avoiding the factory build stage.

Oh boy! can't wait for it to come! It would be a worthy update to my old trusty Pismo which definitely I'm going to keep around for its portability. I guess I'm gonna be blown away in terms of it's speed and extra features.

Let's see...

TNT are morons!

Despite all clear guided requirements that the iMac should be sent to me at work (as confirmed by the nice lady at their call centre), the imbeciles working at their delivery hub took it upon themselves to send it to my home address this morning ... which, during my work hours, remains relatively unoccupied. I hope the buffoon busts a hernia carrying it up and then back down the stairs from my flat.

I now have to pick it up from their hub after 7:30 tonight and bargain with photo ID, two rocks for them to bang together and a carcass of raw meat for them to feed off.

Can I post a "waiting for my Power Mac" here? :)

- Ordered 4/27 BTO "Ships on or before 5/4"

- "Sent to Manufacturing" on 4/27 or 4/28 (i forget)

- On 5/3 was "Replaced with new product" (though exactly the same product with the same product numbers" and status reversed a step to "Processing"

- On 5/4 "Sent to Manufacturing" and now "Ships on or before 5/12"

As the non-BTOs stay on Same day shipping. :(
Must have patience!

I'm baaaack!

I placed my order for the low-end 17-inch iMac G5 Tuesday night. It will allegedly arrive Saturday. I'm too excited to sleep... I want it here now!

But, I guess I can wait...

In 1994, my father purchased me my first computer - the Macintosh Performa 550 - for an 8th grade graduation present. I loved that computer lots, but it only lasted me three years before it just stopped turning on. I never got it repaired.

When the time came to purchase a new computer, my father made sure I would not buy another computer from Apple as they were "a dying company." Thus, I purchased a very expensive Sony Vaio, which lasted me six or seven years.

That one died in early 2004, I believe, and while I had been wanting to switch back to Mac, I was unable to afford a new computer at all. Thus, my father lent me his newly purchased Dell, which gave me much trouble during my first few months of using it, and has provided possibly THE most boring computing experience of my life.

Having graduated from university in December, my father promised me X amount of money to put toward a new computer. While he initially wasn't too keen on the idea of me switching back to Apple, after showing him the new iMac G5 at the local electronics store, he seems to be rather accepting of this idea now.

I had been debating on whether or not to purchase a Powerbook once they receive a significant upgrade, or a new iMac. These new specs on the iMac G5 were enough to convince me that the time to switch back is now, and so, come Saturday, I'll be in the land of apples yet again, and I can already tell: it's gonna feel good to be back home.

Hello, neighbours! :)

Has anyone seen a 20" iMac in the stores?

Unfortunately I won't be able to get to a store until Monday now. I just hope by the time I'm ready to go they have them and they're not all sold out.

I ordered a 17 in. I ckecked with the FEDEX website and it says shipping info recieved. I ordered just the basic model, no extras. (installing HD and memory myself) Also, its shipping via Fedex Ground so I assune that the new iMacs are already in the states.

Why is your iMac shipping within in the United States and my powerbook shipping from Shanghai?!

Hey chaps. When you do receive your new iMac does anyone feel like installing Screen Spanning Doctor and seeing if it works? Screen Spanning Doctor allows you to use an external monitor in extended rather than mirror mode... the decision on whether or not I buy a new iMac hinges on this. If not, I'll be "forced" into buying a PowerMac ;)

Cheers

OK, I've stopped pretending to work today. Anyone interested in first impressions? (I opened the box, stopped myself from touching anything and washed my hands carefully first. It's that shiny. I'd only seen an iMac in an Apple Store before, and they don't stay so clean for long. ....)

hehe...i would have posted pics last night, but it's mine! all mine! my precious...

anyway...i was so in awe of what OSX is supposed to look like (coming from a G4/500 Wallstreet) that i had all the lights off in the room, just to see the glow of the yummy desktop.

only complaint so far - i'm having issues exporting my 200 email contacts (split into two groups) from Entourage on the Powerbook so i can import them into the Entourage-iMac. if i have to retype all 200...grrrr...but at least that is a microsoft issue. nothing wrong with the apple stuff!!!

sadly, i'm now at work, back in the pc world. :( at least my weekend is again lacking of anything of substance. just me and my iMac.
