Thanks z970mp,
but this what I get when trying these :
Code:
Ign http://archive.debian.org jessie InRelease
Hit http://archive.debian.org jessie-backports InRelease
Get:1 http://archive.debian.org jessie Release.gpg [2,420 B]
Get:2 http://archive.debian.org jessie Release [148 kB]
E: Release file for http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/jessie-backports/InRelease is expired (invalid since 220d 14h 4min 3s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.

Maybe its normal ? dunno...
You need to set the time and date. Use this format;

Code:
sudo date -s "28 SEP 2019 08:40:00"
You might need to replace "SEP" with "SEPT" but you get the idea.

Mmmmh
Code:
Sat Sep 28 17:18:29 CEST 2019

My date is already set correctly... strange...

Try these sources, @galgot

deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src http://archive.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

No, that leaves out the backports repository, forgoing tons of additional packages. Plus, most people don't ever need the source codes. It just takes up needless room in sources.list and wastes space.

@galgot, you need to follow the install guide in the Wiki. It explains how to set up a modern Jessie installation (among others) - without errors.

I've forgotten, you needed to add this line to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00aptitude:

Acquire::Check-Valid-Until "false";

Add back the prior archive repositories. That will get rid of the errors.

Oops, wasn’t aware of that.

Thank you z970mp. I went back with backports repository. I also didn't had that 00aptitude file, so I added it. Maybe I didn't had it because I use "apt-get" instead of "apt".?.
I also kept the deb-src line in the source.list.
Anyways, it updates and upgrade fine.

z970mp, sorry I was looking in the Debian Sid Install guide :/ while I had to look into the Install guide of the PowerPC linux Wiki...

That's why I specified "Wiki", and "Jessie"... The Sid thread has neither of those things...

Well, this is awkward.. I was under the impression the Radeon 9200 was broken when using any kernel beyond 4.4? I have full 3D acceleration here.

@z970mp I'd like to thank you for this guide! You have no idea how many times I've revisited it over the last few days!

@z970mp have you had a chance to check Void PPC out yet? The LXQT live image is broken, as certain desktop functions do nothing when interacted with, but all of the others appear to be fine.

No, as I prefer Debian-based distributions. Besides that, I am busy developing in OS X, so I haven't had a lot of time to experiment.

This is a public Wiki however, so others are free to research and append. Or maybe we mark this one as Debian-based, and make a new one for Void. - Actually, maybe we do that since this one is already so hulking...

I have little to no knowledge of the xbps package management system, so I don't think I'm equipped to instruct others on how to use it lol. I'll be more than happy to contribute what I can to a wiki post once I have a better handle on things, and a stable release is introduced :)

Somewhat exciting news! I remixed lubuntu 16.04. Updated it to 16.04.6, added SpiderWeb/Mail, added right click for ibook/powerbook users, added sound support, added wifi firmware, added windfarm (fan control), and a slew of other things that should have been done originally for a better user experience out of the box. Posting from the live DVD right now! Yes, you can run the live DVD without the need to install! But you lose some things that get added once installed. I need to iron out a few things, but should have it available to download/test within the next 24 hours. :)

Here's a teaser screen grab.

Was this actually based off Lubuntu 16.04, or Ubuntu Server 16.04.6? Server fixes various issues with the vanilla Lubuntu images (like the VFS boot problem) and IIRC, receives continual support until 2021, where Lubuntu stops at 2019.

It was built from the original lubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop iso. It also gets updates until 2021. It's what i use on all my ppc macs, and i receive updates almost weekly. Only MATE dropped support AFAIK. Either way it's now updated to 16.04.6 with fixes.

Cheers

OK, SurfTube has been updated to use Invidious over vanilla YouTube. Streaming 720p HD video should now be viable on machines less beastly than a DC G5. :)

By the way, does anyone actually use SurfTube?

-

That aside, I may have finally found a way to get a YouTube mini-browser on Debian 10 (What did I say? ;)). Unfortunately, I don't have a PPC Debian 10 machine currently available for testing, so could anyone running Debian 10 on their PowerPC please see what happens when the below package, Ice, is installed? It's supposed to be for all platforms, and it needed to install Python alongside it to work on armhf, but I don't know if that's the case for powerpc, and if it does indeed work on powerpc.

Just remove the ".zip", and do a sudo dpkg -i *.deb in its holding directory.

Much appreciated. :)

There is no .deb file in the zip package. I had only a quick look as I had no time. Should I just literally rename the file into a deb file ?

Yes, as in removing the ".zip" extension.

I wanted to compress it, but since it was technically already compressed, I just added ".zip" so I could post it here.

Damn uploading limitations...

OK, do the apt --fix-broken install, and it should end up installing everything required.

What do you mean it did nothing? In this instance, sudo apt --fix-broken install installed all the required packages on armhf, and then another sudo dpkg -i *.deb would have installed the application. It should do just the same on powerpc, or at the very least explain why it can't and instead just remove Ice.
