just tried muxing my .mkv files (which are directly from MakeMKV) with tsMuxer.
anndd...
the movies now work on ps3 when streamed from PS3MS!
im so relieved. i havent been able to watch >50% of my ripped movies, but now they are fine. all i have to do is remux them now. it took 25mins to do a movie, its just disk throughput that slows it down.
it was all my movies pretty much! regardless of formatting. i remuxed to h264 + ac3, bceause the ps3 likes to play them. it works flawlessly now. im pretty happy.Im still kinda new to the whole thing, why the need to remux it?
Were these all of your VC1 movies? Those seem to be the cause of most of my issues.
HA! grats on the bonusOn another note, Im still debating if I want to add a Mac Mini to my Home Theater. I just got a bonus today and its eating a whole in my pocket!! I almost feel like I cant wait for the rumored Mini with HDMI.
good question. ive never had that happen on mine. on the xbox can you change the format of the movie using the controller? are you sure there isnt a setting wrong there?I have been testing PS3MS with my Xbox and I was trying to watch an .mkv and the MEncoder in PS3MS was changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 or something similar. It was cropping the sides of the film. I didn't see a way to keep the aspect ratio the same in the encode settings. Does anyone know what I was doing wrong?
hahahahahahahahaha well that was an impulse buyI might be done with this thread DoF sorry! I just picked up my Mac Mini. Ill still stop in to say hi once in a while though.
How does PS3MS handle seeking? >1.5x fast forwarding for on-the-fly transcoding?
EDIT: ah, not that well on my computer apparently...heres to hoping the new MM is cheap.
booooo wirelessI'm trying out Medialink 2.0b8 and PS3 Media Server 1.20.409 and they both work rather well, smoothly as long as I limit to 30Mbits (sadly it would be troublesome to hookup my PS3 over ethernet). I was happy to find they both work with the subtitles in the files I have.
switching subtitles/audio can be done through the PS3MS interface. transcoding settings->video files engines->mencoder. then subtitle settings etc. you can also choose subtitles from there. audio language can sort of be chosen from there, its very picky though. ill have a deeper lookThe problem I've run into so far is that I have some files with dual audio tracks (English + Japanese, and English subs) and on the PS3 there doesn't appear to be any way to switch between them?? The Audio option in the PS3's media player only chooses between Left, Right, Left+Right (what's the point?). I'm hoping I'm missing something. On one particular file, PS3MS gave me Japanese audio with no subtitles and Medialink gave me English audio with subtitles.
you would hope so. open the file with QT7 and hitPS3MS also seemed to confuse the center audio channel with the right front, putting the majority of the audio over there. Same file with Medialink had correct audio. Edit: But other files seem to be OK so it might just be a compatibility issue with this one file, I hope.
Thanks, I did manage to get the audio/subtitle situation sorted how I want it, I think. The "audio/subtitles language priority" setting was making things behave oddly, so I just left it blank, and prioritized jpn audio and eng subs in the other fields. I found out that one file I had has working subs for the opening credits but not for the rest, I think it's a SSA/ASS issue (plays the same in Medialink too). Did have some stuttering with playback but changed the preset to "Good quality for HD Wifi Transcoding" and 25Mb, haven't tested it much but that should work. Quality is good enough for the convenience for me. I'm not going to be watching super high quality blu-ray rips, that's what the PS3 and Netflix are for.switching subtitles/audio can be done through the PS3MS interface. transcoding settings->video files engines->mencoder. then subtitle settings etc. you can also choose subtitles from there. audio language can sort of be chosen from there, its very picky though.
Looks like the file I had problems with has 6ch AAC instead of an AC3 sound track, not something I encounter often. And I can indeed re-assign the channels in QTP7.open the file with QT7 and hit+ J, im pretty certain that you can edit each channel of audio in there.
great to hear that you got that working kinda! so annoying and frustrating trying to get it going! Thanks, I did manage to get the audio/subtitle situation sorted how I want it, I think. aahh ok, maybe you should try to convert it into AC3 sounds then? i thought tsmuxer could do it but im not 100% sure :\Looks like the file I had problems with has 6ch AAC instead of an AC3 sound track, not something I encounter often. And I can indeed re-assign the channels in QTP7.
I got a 10/100 ethernet switch to hookup the 360 and PS3 (my router doesn't have gigabit). I tried to stream a 1080p Bluray rip but it was unwatchably stuttery even when I changed the preset to Low Quality. Also gave Medialink a try and it stuttered even worse. Bandwidth didn't seem to be a problem (not using anywhere close to 100Mb) and it was using 150% CPU... still, it could be that my Mac just couldn't handle the file. Can't think what else it would be. I've had no issues with 720p stuff even over wireless and another lower quality 1080p file seemed to play OK.
Ah, I didn't know I could pause it and let the buffer build. If i do that it plays perfectly smooth, but the buffer steadily drains so it will eventually empty and stutter. So I guess it's a matter of not enough CPU, even if it's not using all 400% (see my Mac in my sig).
it does seem to be the computer.. however it has PLENTY of grunt.^^
It's not a bandwidth problem, I know my PS3 will play media streamed to it at 30MBytes/s (ML converts to MPEG2 or something) over gigabit.
2 things. this really should be setup automatically, but it isnt. And, I'm sure this has been answered, but I can't find a straight answer: But is there something special I need to make sure to get PS3MS to find my PS3? It worked ONCE ever (and liked to crash when watching youtube) and how it always fails. The stable version gives up after 2 seconds, the beta consumes a core until you force quit it.
Computer -> Switch -> Netgear -> PS3
yay! i helpedAh! Finally, that worked. I saw those settings but didn't think it would fix it.
awwww poor coreduo machine!Going to see how well Ratava works on this now. Not hoping for much, as my machine won't even play this in VLC without lagging.
awwww poor coreduo machine!
wanna still grab that MP
im probs thinking of buying a low powered PC for my central hub. dum de do. haah
oh yea! it still struggles? oh right, VLC.. use bloody Plex for crying out loud! That's core 2 duo to you mate!
hahahahahaha. just priced up a $546 computer for my data storage, not too bad i guess... it has 8 HDD bays! twould be enough for me i thinkOne day, but for now, I might be asking for a Arrandale MM when they arrive. Plex is gonna rock my living room then.
well that depends on the quality etc. a 1080p transferring at "full" quality isnt going to last long, as it would be roughly 40mb/s! but an avi might be able to encode the entire thing, depending on how long it is. remember, the buffer holds the transcoded stuff - so if you use uncompressed then it will always be a constant bitrate. sort of... hahaAs for an unpdate, PS3MS is working like a charm, my computer can play, without pre-buffering, about 5 seconds before it stutters and catches up. But for now, I'd like to know how long a 600MB buffer lasts. Also, the buffer is draining at about 1 MB a second. Not bad I guess.

fair call. damn you h264! haha (not really, i love it)I can play much, much higher bit rate videos on VLC no problems, it's the h.264 profile they used is higher (thus more complex).
yup and getting a lot more TV shows etc too now.. hate having to buy external drives! one nice big hackintosh to store them allNot a bad deal. I'm thinking you need it because you're backing up BDs?
48mb/s ->72mb/s. thats pretty intense for BDs. but yea generally any sort of transcoding/encoding will make for quality lossDunno, it's only moving data out of my computer at 6-9 MB/s. 1080p ~1MB/s encode. It's mostly on default settings. Seems to work fine, although the jury's still out on that I think is slightly reduced pic quality.
