Im really doubting this year in getting the 16PM or an s24u or 25u. iOS works fine, but is also getting a bit boring.
From the switchers, what are things that are better on android or options that an iPhone don’t have?

I know most apps all work the same, so that’s not a thing anymore nowadays. I know I’m gonna miss iMessage and Live Photos (motion photo on Samsung works but it it’s set up differently).

Maybe switching for just using something new is also worth it.

As you'll see above I've literally just made that move

Had the iPhones from the 3GS (bar the X series) and then 11 Pro Max to the 15PM and really like them; but I've always had an Android handset alongside too (recently from the Note 20 Ultra/Pixel 4XL/Pixel 7 & 8 Pro and now Pixel Fold)

But moving from the 15PM to the S24U and AWU2 to the Samsung Watch Ultra made me realise that I much prefer the customisation that I get with Android; but the size/build of the S24U I prefer over the 15PM and I quite like being back on a fingerprint scan for ID rather than FaceID

All in they more or less work the same; I'm not a massive user of iMessage but have that on my Mac anyways; FaceTime I've got on my Mac(s) also and my wife's M4 iPad Pro

I think it boils down to personal preference - Android vs iOS etc and maybe how much you're into one ecosystem over the other? 🤔

Why would you miss iMessage? At the end of the day it's a messaging tool. Too many got caught up on annotating the message but failed to understand it's about THE messge. Less than 6 months RCS + iMessge will be interoperable. How you convey the messge on either platform will essentially be the same. Video /audio conferencing will work as well or just get another universal platform - pretty easy and plenty of free options.

Like you said the apps all work so it shouldn't matter. Don't forget either messaging platform is still interfaces by an application. Did you GET that messge 🤔😉.

I would suggest Samsung Galaxy S devices before Z devices. Also you do NOT need to spend $1300US to get ProRes/ProRAW as both come natively on the Galaxy S23/24 and all over S devices and Z devices stock.

The most concern you'll have is ensuring:
All your online accounts ID/Password remain within Settings, General, Passwords. Remove anything from Apple's relay BEFORE using the migrating tool as you'll not be able to migrate or login to access accounts or mailbox, etc using that relay on the Android device - unless you have a Mac or iPad!!

moreimprtantly if you have Apple Cloud encryption enabled you'll be able to access any icliud resources u less again you have a Mac or iPad using your cloud account as thr MFA push is to the device with signed in cloud account. Both I had a VERY frsitrstng time with just before returning the 15 Pro I had as buyers remorse to my carrier.

NOTE: Safri bookmarks get orphaned from their folders and organizational hierarchy during migration into the Samsung Internet Browser. Although very powerful it lacks crucial bookmark/folder arrangement - VERY frustrating so export into Chrome, Firefox or another universal platform Browser.

i tried the 24u for a couple days. WOW! its a computer, it has so many possiblities. It feel like on ios apple decides which use cases the phone serves. On S24u you decide yourself. Plug it to a monitor for Dex, do real multitasking thats only available on ipads. Use firefox with ublocker to have no popups.
That part i really like. And indeed, i could just ask the people i use imessage with to use something else. That would be no problem.

I do miss FaceID. It just works without you even realizing. Fingerprint reader didnt always work.
But what i didnt like is the quality of Motion Photo. The Live Photo equivalent. Its a bit blurry sometimes and it takes 3 seconds before you hit the capture button. I really liked apples take to also use 3 seconds After you hit the capture button. That's, im my opinion, more of the moment I want to capture. The 3 seconds before is just me getting the phone in place and pointing at the object.
I need to think if I find this an issue. Most important is capturing memories, and this feels like a step back. But still, i really really really like the S24U.

Everytime i switch to one of my S24U the first thing i miss is FaceID.
But that goes away when i start to use the phone with the dedicated back button and how Android handles notifications.
It would be great if someone makes something similar to FaceID on and Android phone! Game changer.....

I thought I'd miss FaceID - I don't

Yes; it's great/works superbly. But zero issues with the fingerprint scanner (apart from when I've trained and I've mashed my thumbs a bit) 😂

yeah me too on all those points.

The finger print reader on the s24u isn't great at all for me no matter how much I train it. Face ID on the iPhone is perfect for me.

tbh the pixel8pro got very close to faceID so perhaps the 9pro will get there and then maybe samsung at some point!

I love the fingerprint scanner on my S24 Ultra, was never a big fan of FaceID but it was better than Apple's old TouchID scanners that never worked for me.

wow i like that colour!
The 24U is great. Connecting it to a tv is great. Its a computer with all the options. Using Firefox with addons to block popups is great. Much better than iOS. The freedom to manage apps, to have google, samsung or microsoft manage passwords and pictures is great. Its mostly having options to do what you want instead of how apple wants.
iMessage wouldnt be a problem, most people i use that with are on iOS for me. Dont mind switching.
FaceiD is better, but i think i would get used the the Samsung faceid and the fingerprint.

But, the photo picture quality is just not that good. In good lighting conditions, its great. Really great. But indoor and when there is a little movement it become blurry and sometimes it just looks like an cheap China phone. My 13 takes better, more consistent, pictures in those scenarios. I dont want to sacrifice that for the above positive things.

Maybe the 25U will be better at this. I think i will not buy the iphone 16P at launch cause want to wait and see what the 25U brings.
