Well, I feel it's a nice upgrade. The camera looks great plus the ai features. As to paying for them, we'll, that's 2 years away. Now, I'm just deciding on the color? Yellow looks pretty good and I don't have a yellow phone. We'll see...

i have images of what the error is.. first picture says i qualify.. second is what the military discount should be not logged in.. then i log in after 30 trys.. and it changes to the poop employee store and the price reflects.. 🤷‍♂️

That you dont need a new phone. Especially when S24 series is pretty much identical to S23 series.

I’ve re-ordered, if they do end up charging a subscription for the AI features I will just use the phone without them. At this price, with the £50 off, the free case and screen protector plus the free storage upgrade and the free Galaxy Watch 6, i would be stupid not to take advantage of it.

I've canceled my order, in the small print it hints to Samsung charging for the AI features after next year. I'm not ok with that.

Alot can happen between then and we don't really know what 2025 may bring Al wise in fairness. I think by 2025 people won't be paying for it.

Does anyone else feel like with the S24 series it’s a bit of a case of money for old rope? It’s like Samsung are focusing so much on the AI features to try and hide how much the hardware is just a relatively small iteration on the S23 models.

It says it is free basically until Jan of 2026. So almost two years free guaranteed in writing. They will probably ask owners through surveys and emails about if they are comfortable paying for the AI features they are using. I bet they will get a big No. Or if they just announce it Jan 2026 it is going to anger a lot of people.

There is no guarantee that they will ever charge you at this point and it seems premature to cancel an order over a possible future cost for something you can choose not to use or pay for??

I will certainly raise hell in the Samsung members forum to give Samsung some feedback. But I honestly don't think it will ever happen. I could be wrong and people are push overs but the majority opinion of most people is that they would never pay for it. Samsung has two years to convince us otherwise.

Look, as some have said if there is an extra cost associated with providing AI features beyond just adding the code in the OS like using servers for AI computation or other costs I have no idea about in the day to day running of the new features. Then and only then an at cost fee would be appropriate. In other words if it costs 39 cents a month per device for Samsung to run the AI then that is what we should pay. They shouldn't make a profit off of it. Then I would be okay with a charge. Anything else I will not pay most likely....

I expect the possible charge is for online AI services (mainly some of the photo processing) the on device AI features re chat and call translations I expect to remain free simply by toggling AI off

Like you I feel if Google think they will lose out it may well stay free

I just preordered the ultra my 13 pro is meh anymore. And don’t care for the 15 pro max.

15 Pro Max is the best iPhone in years IMO, but I 100% get where you're coming from if you're coming from a 13 Pro. Nice to change it up once in a while. I have S23U and love how fluid it is, but it's just too boxy - cutting into the hand, have the Pixel 8 Pro and it's the best feeling phone in the hand (again IMO) and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is as I said the best iPhone i've used in years. Love the Titanium and how much lighter it is.
Enjoy your Ultra though. Always exciting to have a new device on the way

To me the baseline S24 is now a mid-range phone with a high end phone’s price tag slapped on it. At least the plus model offers some hardware features that make the price look slightly less over-priced.

I appreciate what you said ! I played with the 15 pro max I wanted to love the thing. The camera and the focus bugged me a good bit. I’m sure I’ll be annoyed with the Samsung. My wife is always mad about the text color change lol

I tried a 15 Pro Max and I found it too heavy rather than too big so I returned it. Of these I’m tempted by the S24+ as it’s actually lighter than my iPhone 13 Pro. Especially as Amazon are now offering 12 monthly payments, 9% off and the watch deal as well.

Not a huge lover of these phones as most know, but wanted to say that Violet S24 Ultra looks soooo good. Great design, I love that it has a Titanium surround and just a flat block of purple with the titanium camera rings. Pops so nice.

Interesting camera choice this year with the Ultra... The telephoto samples banding around look a little rough which shocks me given how they’ve pushed the zoom agenda for some years now.
