So I'm typing this on the S24 Ultra. I let it charge to 30% avd turned it on, and it works perfectly.

I did originally mess around with some deep battery settings when I first got the phone over some YouTube video, but just now switched back to default.

Isn't there an update from Samsung due soon? I might hold off returning this for a day, let's see how things go today.

There it is, LOL. You didn't say that until now. Not giving you flak, genuinely want to know what settings you adjusted. The only YouTubers I pay attention to as far as phones go are Floss and JRE. Everyone else has lost me as a viewer or I just don't care about the drivel they put out.

The settings I changed were so minimal. I've done that in previous phones. Never had an issue

It was just some profile settings. Adaptive or something else or power saver/ normal mode. Stuff like that.

Those are stock settings, not deep dive settings. That should not make my phone not turn on for 2 days straight or go from 80% battery at night to completely dead the next morning.

Ah OK. Glad it's up and running. Hope it stays that way!

It's so frustrating watching reviews on this phone. They feel like they're all being paid off. Especially when you know these creators are die-hard Apple users. Hearing their thoughts and the whole "iPhone user switches to Galaxy" trend is awful.

LOL I'm with you, I can't stand it. Especially the iSheep reviewing the Galaxy, while still wearing the Apple Watch and you know their iPhone is off to the side, just out of view of the video.

meh, I carry an Android most of the time but I love my Apple Watch Ultra and wear it and sync it to my iPhone. Not the norm for the average user but those guys have lots of devices and I could see why they would wear an Apple watch but could still be an Android phone user. Although I like the Watch 5 Pro, to me there's just not a WearOS watch that matches up with the Apple watch for what I like to use a smartwatch for. I don't care for notifications, I mostly use it for the health tracking, morning jogs, sleep tracking, etc.

Fair but you're not a tech reviewer. lol I'm personally done giving these tech reviewers benefit of the doubt, it's just way too obviously biased now & clear there is compensation involved for their positive thoughts. (Not that it's not a fantastic phone, but it all comes down to the delivery method of their review. )

so your might have caused your own issues? The phone is working normally now? Personally there are no deep battery settings anyone should be messing with on todays smartphones.

Brought the phone to work, it's charging right now, 92%, and I was playing with it, and it totally works normal.

I have not put my SIM in the phone yet, just want to see how it behaves today.

Yup- I also like checking out Hayls World (a bit over the top though, she's had some solid settings tweaks at times), The YouTube Tech Guy and Tech Spurt (to keep tabs on the Exynos contingent).

I had a feeling it wasn't really DOA. I have had times when a phone will show a higher battery percentage than us true for the device. I use it or leave it overnight and it is dead. Since the battery completely drained sometimes that can make it really difficult to turn on. Sometimes an OS can go into a mini bootloop and recover.

I would suggest you fully charge the device. Reset the device normally. Then go into recovery. Navigate to reset and reset the device two or three times in recovery. Reboot. Setup as normal. Then once setup is completed all your apps are updated, restart. Then you should not have any more issues like this.

It could be a one off deal. In my personal opinion I would keep it unless it dies again and maybe opt to buy the monthly insurance for a few months and then if everything is good you can drop the insurance.

That way if you have any hardware issues with the extra insurance they will expedite any repair or replacement.

A lot less hassle then sending it back and then maybe purchasing again.

Either way glad your phone has come back to life. Never underestimate the phone God's. They can save you in a bind. 😅 I think they are on your side at least you have their attention.

In his defense no settings should make the phone inoperable for over a day and everyone is speculating that his adjustment caused the issue which we don't know. I know I have messed with all kinds of settings, battery, etc. Never had any problem so I don't know if one can logically assume user error here. And again even if it was user error there is no reason any settings on the phone should render the phone temporarily unbootable.

We also don't know how the initial user set up their phone, if there was a software corruption or bug with his individual unit, and on and on.

This is why I try to help as best I can to offer ways that might revive a "dead" device. I have seen a ton of devices come back to life from seemingly certain extinction.

So you have an s23 ultra in your drawer? Or you are sending it back? I am so confused. Sorry?

The s23 ultra is really nice in the hand. The corners are a little less sharp than the s24 ultra.

I really like the even more boxy s24ultra but I am weird. Lol

Disagree...i could go into developer options and totally mess-up my phone in 2 minutes and make it unusable.
People love Android for all the things you can customize. They buy unlocked phones so they can go into developer settings and tweak things. There are warnings about doing this and you do it at your own peril.
But if you do bork your phone doing this...you can always flash it back to default setting through Odin.

Sometimes you cannot protect people from themselves....

Oh and I agree we don't know whether his phone would have had this issue on its own. Insert all the things that could go wrong with mass produced products.
But if you tweak things and your phone bricks.......kinda like.... if it walks like a duck...quacks like a duck.....its probably a duck....

personally i don't tweak anything on my phones. i use them at default settings. Gone are the days when i flashed and imaged phones according to the latest roms on XDA

Developer settings is not something most average consumers even know about let alone tinker with.

Also he said settings and I am sure if he or anyone went into developer settings they would have mentioned that.

No regular setting on any phone should disable the device-period.

Developer settings is not relevant to this discussion as he did not state he went deep into settings. So it is a misdirect to justify your response.

People on Apple side of things tend to exaggerate the dangers of the open source nature of Android and the added level of user control. I like freedom. I like to be able to do the things I can on Android but I would also take responsibility if I did something that could potentially damage the device, like rooting, installing custom firmware, etc. But if I take those actions I understand the risk and I highly doubt TigBitties messed with Developer settings without disclosure. Changing a setting in the battery and then having an issue the next day it is easy to forget even Changing the setting ad you wouldn't assume it would do anything catastrophic.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would blame someone even if they did something wrong as long as they just set the phone up normally and adjusted settings to their liking if they had a situation where the device would not start despite numerous attempts. I get from your posts that you are leaning toward user error. I am not trying to attack you or your opinion but trying to push back because I just don't agree. My tone can be misinterpreted and I just want to be clear I respect your point of view but I also disagree.

Playing with this phone today ( brought it with me to office, no SIM yet ) but this thing truly is a beast, super sharp detailed amazing display, and the rectangular sharp shape seems so chiseled and just to futuristic looking. Like what I expected a future smartphone to eventually look like, and now were here.

The smoothness of unlocking the phone to the homescreen is fluid, and everything feels snappy and fast. And OneUI 6.1 is shockingly very minimal, like it feels pretty darn close to Pixel OS, but with way more customization and tweaks available. I have to say I am very surprised in a good way here.

So long story short I bought the phone through Swappa ... Used it for 3 months then the phone was locked out because there were payments owed on the phone I guess .. I got a refund through PayPal and never bought a new one and the old one is just sitting there with a message on the lock screen at boot up that says your phone has been disabled by Samsung

That really sucks. Glad you got a refund. You have to be really careful when purchasing a used device within a year or two after release as a lot of people will sell before they pay they device off and then just let whomever disable the device due to non payments. Almost had the sane situation but just barely made it though by harping on the seller. But it is a really crappy scam if you are on the losing end. Luckily you got a refund!

Wish there was a way to revive it. You could sell it on ebay for parts. At least you could put whatever you get towards a new phone? Bet you could get $150-200 easily.

agreed...but this person was a known tweaker that used to image his phones from XDA...he has admitted it numerous times.
Then from what I read it didn't die right away.

Then lets keep things separate...we are not talking about the average user....they don't read forums like this or buy the latest and greatest phones having multiple phones in the rotation.

You don't know developer setting is relevant or not...for the same reason you listed. It is relevant until it isn't.

But coming out with disgust that his new phone died for no reason and how he wanted to give Samsung a shot even though he doesn't like them from the past and all the derogatory names he used to call them.
Then LATER admitting he tweaked the phone...but only the battery _shrugs_.

but i am not sure the phone was bricked think it just died from running out of battery. That why it is fine now after charging overnight.

Anyway...done...talking about. it seems it has miraculously risen from the dead to be amazing....

I have zero clue what happened. All weekend I kept pressing the power button for 30 seconds at a time, or power button and volume key at the same time. And nothing would happen. It was the strangest thing ever.

And I'm not a newb to smartphones, I'm on XDA and used to Root and ROM my phones back in the day, I think I know what I'm doing.

Then this morning, as I'm leaving for work, and planned to box it up and RMA the phone. I tried yet again, holding the power button down just to see one last time if anything might happen. And holy cow I saw a little symbol on the screen, an image of 0% battery with an animation of a plug.

I was totally blown away. Could not believe it. So I charged it, agd it took awhile, at first the timer showed like 2h10m to fully charge. So I let it charge and turned it on and it worked just like I left it on Friday night. I have no freaking clue what happened? I'm stumped.
