really? where did you hear this?
It’s on their website. I’ll include a screen shot

To be honest just because it says you CAN preorder tonight for in-store pickup that doesn't guarantee it'll be at your local store. So wait until tonight before you cancel your preorder.
yeah im not gonna cancel until i know im able to pick it up at the store. thanks!

Anybody have any luck with getting FedEx to hold the package at one of their pick up facilities? I was able to do it easily last year with UPS, and was able to pick my package up first thing that morning. But FedEx is being difficult as all hell. Another reason why I'd rather deal with them UPS than FedEx

With UPS it’s never an issue, don’t know what the deal is with Fed Ex.

About 25 hrs to go until my iPhone X. Besides the phone, the only other thing being delivered tomorrow is my Zagg screen protector, which will be the first I install, once I get the phone. After that, I will put my new black leather Apple case on and restore from encrypted backup. :)

This took about 5 hours on the phone with FedEx/Verizon over the last three days, but I think I finally got it processed. WAY too much to type...

I wouldn’t wish the hassle on my worst enemy.
So it's possible to have the packaged held at a pickup facility but it's just a pain in the ass to get Verizon and FedEx to do it?

For anyone with a later shipping date than launch day that wants their order sooner, you can order a X for in store pickup via Verizon’s website starting at 3 am eastern time. Thought this info would help some folks out.

Called Verizon twice. They are totally unwilling to help and they even get FedEx on the line and they refuse to do it citing special contracts and that "no one" can change it to add the hold option on the tracking number. What did you say to verizon to let them help you with this request?

Nothing. That information is on their website.

Sorry, wrong reply.

What did you tell Verizon to get them to change this? I've tried twice and they or FedEx won't budge.

Canceled I just went into a corporate Verizon store. Guy said they had about 30. He showed me a picture of the phone and boxes. Not waiting on Verizon online anymore

Yes a regular but hardworking CSR with Verizon did the trick who conference called over several days with FedEx. Those conference calls with FedEx had to be escalated. Then if you get lucky enough to pass that milestone you have to hope the ops manager at your local hub doesn’t have an issue with the hold request because then you’ll have to start all over again. Once you start all over again then you have to hope you get someone at FedEx who will double check Verizon’s approval (another conference call) and will then call down to the local hub and set that ops manager straight.

As much as I want to bash FedEx, I believe this is more Verizon’s fault. They put very strict restrictions on FedEx while I think Apple gives UPS a little more leeway. I spoke to a few people today at FedEx who seemed genuinely concerned about losing their job if they stretched the rules regarding what they could do regarding my Verizon shipment under this “special” Verizon contract.

You probably should have just kept your online order until you have one in hand, then cancel it... Just my two cents.

What happens when you show up in the morning and there's 35 people in line? Wouldn't want to risk it.

For everyone who is fighting to do an address change, how did you end up with the wrong ship to address anyway? Seems like I had to type in my address during the preorder.

Just got a notification that my delivery was scheduled! It says it will be delivered by 4:30, so I really hope it doesn’t change to 8pm like most peoples did because I’m leaving town at 4:30.. we will see what happens. May have to change my plans for tomorrow night, but I’m hoping for the best.

They guarantee you one or you waiting on the morning?

According to the previous post, it is said you can pre-order online at 3AM and choose in-store pickup. Why wouldn't you just do that? What if there are 30 pre-orders and you're standing out there at 6am?
