Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Illustrator are available on Android.
I know it will be released soon, but Android hasn't had like Lumafusion or an equivilant video editing app, and in this social media day and age, I know quite a few people who like to use tablets (specifically iPads) for their video posts since they can just edit in Lumafusion and airdop or just just upload from the photos app if they are using iCloud for their videos

Edit: Adding that I am not defending the treatment that iPads are getting the past few years. Just noting that the Android tablets don't quite do it all.

I have been waiting months to upgrade to a new 11" iPad Pro--my current one is over five years old. After a year and a half since the last iPad Pro, the only improvements Apple can come up with is M1->M2 and slightly better wireless? No better display? No wireless charging? This lack of innovation has really put me off upgrading and I will think hard about spending $1K+ for another iPad.

There are still lots of reasons to buy an iPad. Because its fundamentally a different tool to a Mac.

Apple iPad keyobard cases have always been way overpriced in my view, although they're great. They offer very little real world protection and it won't be long until there are much better third party alternatives available, at half the price.

So today the 10th gen vanilla iPad was revealed, killing the headphone jack once and for all in the iPad lineup (which still makes no sense) but also FINALLY bringing USB-C to the vanilla iPad! 🥳

Additionally, the vanilla iPad finally gets a Magic Keyboard of it's own, and it no longer has the home button. It's glorious...well it would be if it wasn't for two factors: Price, AND IT'S STILL USING THE 1ST GEN APPLE PENCIL

$449 for 64 gbs. The 9th Gen iPad is 256 gb for only $20 more. Or hell the Galaxy S6 Lite gets you 128gb for $329, AND THAT COMES WITH A STYLUS.

But hey, it has it's own Magic Keyboard now...for $250. So to that, I'd like to do a little comparison. A 10th Gen iPad with 256 gb and a Magic Keyboard, is $850.

View attachment 2097164

Well that's fine and dandy...but there's another thing that is the same price as that with better specs: The M1 Macbook Air

View attachment 2097165

For the price of a 256 gb vanilla iPad and the keyboard, you can just get a much better Macbook Air, and not just refurbished, as Amazon is selling brand new M1 Macbook Airs for $800 now. I've said this regarding the M1 iPad Air/Pro that you're better off just getting an M1 Macbook Air instead of this, and now this also applies with the vanilla iPad.

Hell I can't even recommend the 9th gen iPad anymore, as the Galaxy S6 Lite is the same price as it and it has more storage than base spec iPad at the same price, and it comes with a stylus, as well as having a desktop mode with DeX mode. Not to mention not being bogged down by iPadOS and having features it doesn't, like being able to install software without an app store, AND ACTUALLY HAVING MULTIPLE USER ACCOUNTS ON THE SAME DEVICE WHY DO WE NOT HAVE THIS C'MON.

So with today's update, there's no reason at all to buy an iPad anymore. The S6 Lite is just a better tablet on the value proposition and featureset, and if you need to go higher just get a Macbook. And I'm not alone in this sentiment as the Mac has been outselling the iPad lineup for two years now since the Apple Silicon transition happened.

God...this makes me sad as the iPad used to be my favorite Apple thing since the iPad 2. Now, the Mac's my new fave, as my Macbook Pro has pretty much taken over all of my iPad's previous functions. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave at what his most important creation has become.
Galaxy S6 Lite. HAHAHAHA. actually compared that to anything? Just curious, what is the performance of the Galaxy? what? pretty poor?, like the multi-core score is less than the single core score of the iPad? oh no!

A complete, non-cellular, 64 GB 10th Gen iPad is nearly $800 ($797). That is 64 GB iPad, Magic Keyboard Folio and 1st generation pencil. Who's buying this? It has an A14 which is over 2 years old (though it is a TSMC N5 part which is good) and the weird 1st generation pencil on USB-C.

I generally find complaints about Apple's pricing boring and useless but this baffles me. This setup should be well under $700. I don't think they are going to sell a lot of complete iPad systems like this.

Nowadays iPadOS is more a negative selling point depending on who you ask. No desktop mode and no multiuser accounts as well as not being able to install whatever you wanted.
This feels like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It's annoying that Apple iPadOS has developed so slowly - clearly Stage Manager isn't the breakthrough anyone had hoped for. But it's still an excellent OS - fast, secure, reliable, with a great ecosystem of apps. I've come to really enjoy Slide Over as a sweet spot between the simplicity of using a tablet OS and having some degree of multitasking.

I can see why multi-user support would be helpful for some, particularly for kids, but I have no use for it.

I don't do everything on my iPad, but for things I do use it for - editing photos, simple video editing, marking up PDFs, browsing, etc - the iPad is outstanding as ever. The only reservation I have is the outside the US, the pricing is now pretty steep - but that's only partly Apple's fault.

Seriously, I get it, no one likes price increases, but the iPad is at least 20% faster than the old model, twice as many GPU cores (is that 100% faster), better cameras, faster data, better....... so at least you get something. And if you don't want to pay, get the older model, particularly on sale or as an Apple refurb and save tons

My first and second tablets are Amazon Fire 10s. 2017 & 2019. My Samsung Galaxy Tab A is also 2019. My refurbished iPad is 2019. My latest tablet is a 2021 Nokia T20.
For me, there is next to no performance difference in the Nokia and iPad.
My iPad is only 32 GB and is almost full. Nothing but apps and iPad OS.
For me, considering the new 10.9 iPad's cost, there is no reason to ever purchase a tablet again.
Yes, I am nearsighted and hold a tablet close.
That said, I could get a Chromebook tablet or a 2 in 1.
My iPad is too heavy to hold for very long and I use the Nokia more.
The iPad aspect ratio is annoying. The Nokia is better and only my Samsung is 16:9.
I can mirror all my tablets to my Roku. Okay, the Amazon tablets are not useful anymore.
The iPad looks stupid because of the aspect ratio.
So, for me, no more tablets are needed. Just a Chromebook or Chrome tablet, or both.
Don't need Apple or Android, since a Chromebook can use the Google Play Store and Linux apps.

Recommending Android Tablets? Stop trying to make Android Tablets happen, they have been dead for a long time, unless you like running blown up Android apps.

Besides iPad and maybe Windows tablets, Android tablets are pointless as there are hardly any optimized tablet apps compared to the iPad and maybe Windows UWP apps.

That said, the new regular iPad is a bad value when for a little bit more, you can get an iPad Air with more features or buy a used iPad Pro M1 or 2018/2020 model.

Personally I don't understand this new iPad. I really don't understand taking away the headphone jack. My biggest use for my iPad is because iPhones don't have headphone jacks anymore and Apple doesn't sell any sort of music player.

There's no room for the headphone jack on the iPho......

Oh, this is the iPad..

Hmm
🤣

(totally absurd to not have a headphone jack on all iPads, but particularly down on the base models, where wired usage is I'm sure very common, especially with kids)

If you really don't want to use AirPods or other perfectly fine wireless headphones/earbuds, then you can always just use a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter. I fail to see where the issue is. And if you're worried about charging and listening to music at the same time with wired headphones, then:

or similar

I'm one who says let the base iPad be base (which I prefer) and leave the headphone jack in place. The Retina display is perfectly fine for me. I don't need or want to use it with a pencil, keyboard, fancy charger, or other external connections. Let the higher end iPads provide those (at additional expense) for those who require them, and keep the base at reasonable affordability.

You should try teaching a classroom and managing those dongles.

Anytime a key feature that’s been around forever is removed and then requires a dongle/adapter, that can get contentious.

This is one of those grey areas whose inclusion (or exclusion) can be looked at as worse or better by a large # of people.

Good questions that should be asked:

How, and how many, does it does it help by excluding it, and does it hurt a large group?
How, and how many, does it help by including it, and does that then hurt a large group?

if you need a tablet, just get a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite at this point. The iPad lineup has become an expensive redundant mess at this point that's trying so hard to be a laptop replacement, plus the fundamental issues of iPadOS (Like the fact we still don't have multiple user account support while the Galaxy Tabs do) and you'd get more value out of the S6 Lite for the same price as the 9th gen iPad.
Thanks for the post and advice…

Uh, I do teach, and I'm trying to understand how teaching with an audio wire connected to your iPad for audio is better than using a bluetooth adapter. And if you have to be wired, then who cares about adding 3 more inches of length due to a dongle?

My Nokia T20 is very capable. I don't use any of the Apple apps on iPad.
I had surgery in 2019 an couldn't sit at my computer. So my tablet became my daily device.
That is still somewhat true.
I can't hold my iPad in one hand. It's too fat and wide. Also a bit too heavy.
My Nokia is lighter and I can hold it one hand, but it's a stretch.
My Samsung is getting too old, in Android years. I can hold it in one hand with room to spare.
A Chromebook can do everything I need. That tells you what I use a tablet for.
Android is stupid for the limited updates to the OS.
I agree! The iPad 10 is overpriced without M1.
I can recommend refurbished to anyone wanting additional savings. My iPad looks brand spanking new.

My 12 year old is required to have headphones for certain classroom activities. I assume it prevents hearing the cacophony of a dozen+ iPads in the room, and I assume it’s because not all students have Bluetooth/airpod headphones. Kids have a hard enough time managing their iPads and headphones/earbuds, let alone add a small lightning/usb-c to the mix, or the adding the expectation of expecting kids to come with charged AirPods/Bluetooth buds.

Once again:
How, and how many, does it does it help by excluding it, and does it hurt a large group?

It’s pretty easy to see how deleting a feature causes some negative trade-offs.

How bad were the trade-offs, and for who, when keeping the jack?

I mean...you really have no argument here.

Apple's updates today are confused and unimpressive to say the least.

But Android tablets are straight trash.

Until there is a real competitive offering out there, Apple can continue to do whatever it wants with iPad...and buyers will continue to be 50% new to iPad, every day.

Oh, you're talking about the students using iPads. I thought you were talking about teachers teaching with iPads. However, I still fail to see the issue. The dongle just attaches to the end of the headphones, so just treat it as one unit. Or simply buy USB-C headphones (example) so you don't want to use a dongle.

The phrase "complaining for the sake of complaining" comes to mind here.
