How many people in this thread have said they have bad screens? 25, or 50 different people?

How many thousands of MBA's do you think they have sold recently?

I don't know - my new screen is beautiful and has no issues. I would go for it...
You may have a point there.

On the other hand - how many here replaced their MBAs several times, without any good?

How many people in this thread have said they have bad screens? 25, or 50 different people? Sure this thread is 11 pages - with mostlly the same people going back and forth discussing the poor screen they received (not a bad thing)

How many thousands of MBA's do you think they have sold recently?

I would go for it... Alot of us also got perfect, top quality screens....

You are reading only a small percentage of owners issues here.....

This is not a logical argument!!! Your assumption is only users on this forum are having issues. The facts are simple unless you work for Apple
1) you have absolutely no idea how many macbook airs have been sold
2) how many units have been returned for this issue!

I wish people on these forums would stick to the issues at hand.

My experience is I went into an Apple store to buy a Macbook air as a second laptop (i already own a macbook pro) The first thing I noticed was the demo screen looked bad especially compared to the old model. So I wasn't sure if it was just me or was an isolated unit. So Knowing about this web site I decided to check it before i bought the Air. Sure enough other people had noticed the issue. Since I really need this computer now for traveling I decided to go to a different apple store and check out the units. Same deal.
I am sure many people have noticed the problem and have no idea this web site exists!

For those who either don't have the problem or believe it doesn't exist
why spend your time reading this post? I can guarantee if I had a mac book air with a good screen I certainly wouldn't be wasting my time either posting or reading about this issue.

Agreed! I think it might be only a few.

I read this thread wondering IF a problem does exist. Maybe many are just too Anal?

Echo,
If you need it now, would suggest you get a 1st gen SSD. They are cheaper.
It took me 3 of those to get one that was right but I think they dealt with the early heat issues and bet the models available will be reliable. Price I paid to be an early adopter--something I am less likely to do again.
True, I am interested in more than the 64GB that I have and less heat during video playback or Parallels would be nice, but I wouldn't want to buy a bad screen.
(Also, count me in as a big fan on Invisible Shield. No laptop case and no scratches.)

Doubt it. This is the same level of concern and questioning as if it is "a real problem" as we had with the heat issues on the first generation. That was a real problem. This screen issue is most likely also a real problem.

Hopefully this time, unlike the heat issue, Apple will "man up," admit they have a video processor glitch (or whatever) and report on corrective action in a bit more of a transparent fashion.

chill out, he was just kidding. You're right that you don't deserve a defective product after paying a premium for it. but you're not the only one.

and you can always choose to return it and take your money somewhere else. you realize that right?

I am aware of this but considering the fact that there is someone in this forum who returned his MBA several times to still receive the defective one - I certainly do not want to hop on this trial-and-error game and waste my time. Furthermore, someone in this forum have gotten response from Apple that this issue can be fixed with a firmware update. It either implies that there is a mass production of defective MBA or it could be a problem that can be fixed with a firmware update. I just hope Apple is responsible enough to acknowledge this issue early and lay out plans for remedy and do not wait until we have purchased and installed tons applications on our MBA.

I feel for you but i have looked at many in apple stores and mine I wish I could see them but everyone looks great to me:)

Did u use Mac OSX (About this Mac->More Info) to check on the system spec? Over in Singapore, the resellers display the latest specification yet showcasing the units that are Rev.A.

I got my Third MBA and it has the lines, but I have decided to keep it, it's not very noticeable !! But I also got a free Airport Express worth £65 for free. I was talking to just one guy (Mr. Frank Topping) throughout the whole Drama and he is a very nice man, I didn't even ask for a compensation but he offered me and I am no fool and I took it with a thanks !! :D

The only way he said this problem could be sorted at the moment, is to take a refund wait for a couple of weeks and then buy again !! But I can't do that as I will be left without a laptop and also I will be going back to India for my University's winter break.

Cheers

I do not know who Mr Frank Topping is, but obviously he admitted that the MBA is defective.

I just received a replacement (week 47). On the previous one I could easily notice the lines on the aurora desktop. Now I can't see any. The white and greys are still a bit grainy, but nothing to complain about.

The info i got, is that the four-finger-swipe is missing on all MBAs, with no US keyboard. It will be fixed with a software/firmware update.

Yes you are right, I was talking to some senior engineer Mr. Gusto Stavas and he said that this issue will be fixed with a software update. Lets hope they release it soon !!

That is still missing, but I've exchanged it for the screen. The four finger swipe isn't really an issue for me. I've mentioned it to Applecare though and they confirmed more people had called about it.

Just got my MBA 2.0 128/ssd. Everything else is flawless (4-finger swipe included) however the only problem is the screen lines. My question to everyone is how many think it is hardware and how many think it is software that can be fixed through an update. I don't know if I should press my luck and keep it or try to get it exchanged.

a possible way to check whether the lines are a hardware issue?!

Hey,

I've just got an idea how to it might be possible to check whether the line issue comes from the hardware.

Hold the display in front of a bright light source when its turned off.
The apple is transparent enough to let some light through.
If its possible to see the lines in this situation (turned off MBA, display in front of the light source) then its definitely a hardware issue.
If there are no lines to see... well, then it can be still both. A hardware or a software problem...

What do you think and see?

I am on a business trip at the moment, I don't have a light source which is bright enough here. I tried it, but I couldn't see anything...

Attention: Don't grill your MBA, bright light sources are mostly hot!!

Tom.

Well I called to return mine tonight because of the line issue. I was transferred up the Apple Care line 3x. The final guy I talked to grabbed one of the new MBA units they had there and looked at the issue as I described it. He said that he could see what I was talking about, but that it was within spec and not to expect a fix via firmware or driver upgrades :((((. He told me that he would submit my complaint, but not to expect it to be addressed until the next revision because they have had so few complaints on this issue. At least they gave me a full refund.

ALL I WANT IS A 13" MACBOOK WITH A NICE SCREEN!!! I don't care if its an Air or not. I hope apple can deliver this at some point. I find it quite pathetic that a company so bent on details has failed so miserably in this regard.

Back to my trusty MBP...

Pretty annoying...

I´m curious if and when Apple publishes a statement on that concern.

All i can say is: i won´t buy an MBA as long as this issue exists - an i was prone to get an MBA from the moment they released Rev. 2.

Shame on you, Apple, no other company would dare to charge 2300 Euro / 2500 USD for minor quality!

Hello Not everyone has the issues, I have not seen a photo of the issues..
Perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
