If I were to purchase on Amazon, and get a defective one, would I go to Apple to exchange or to Amazon? Anybody with lined/not-lined MBA's buy from Amazon?

Thanks.

When I go tomorrow, if they give me a problem I will simply say,
It may not be a defect that is recognized by your geniuses at this time but one should consider that since this product is the only product that has these lines running across the screen AND it is these lines causing eye strain and headaches, one would assume that for $2500, this product does not live up to what one would normally consider a high quality Apple product. I'd also add that I am not the only one complaining. There are multiple sites, including this one, where over 500 people have complained about the issue and it is also not the first time where the people have complained a lot sooner then it took Apple to actually formalize a response to correcting the situation.

I'd say, find me a perfect unit, or allow me the opportunity to return the product today and in the future, when the product works properly, I would be more then happy to repurchase it!

I would take a 50/50 chance it not like you can't return it?
Hey I agree but you are beating this issue to death saying not to buy one!
LOL,, Really you can buy one at a store, and if you are not happy return it, could not be any easier than that.

LOL,

you really think i´m interested in several times ping-pong-ing MBAs back to Apple just to give up without MBA and totally exasperated?

I rather wait for a fix (or disclaim to purchase), my head and eyes are worth it

Well, here in Austria/Germany, no store has them in stock.

Besides, not every store here will let you open it and break the package seal if you do not buy it. Same applies for playing around for half an hour or more (to check for the headache/eye issue) if you don´t buy it.

HLDan, I said '10 times', a single good report from one person (especially if he cares to tell us the product model numbers and some other details) is great. It wasn't even close to saying "don't post". But you don't seem to read things well and cause flames out of nowhere, so I'll not waste my time responding to pointless arguments that doesn't affect the thread in any way from now on. Same with Ironic (We know you have a good one, and you are just inflating the thread and burying the information with pointless personal chatters.)

There are many people who are in serious problems, for those who are upset spending alot to see a product that they just can't cope with and those people who already sold their old laptop and can't take a replacement easily on their 2nd gen Air. So, please... you know... (I guess some don't). Annoying...

And to add something practical than answering bickerings.

At the moment, we either have to, try to keep replacing the Air until you get a good one (though somehow no one reported that an exchanged Air fixed the problem, but they may as well just not post here anymore feeling happy.) or stick to your old computer until we no longer see defective display reports on this thread at certain week models or Apple makes any official statements that they are going to get this fixed at certain moment, so we can finally take the better bet and grab one.

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!

You just said on your first paragraph that you didn't buy Rev B because the complaints stopped you. Look dude, telling people that have no problems to stop posting is stupid. By hiding the fact they have no problems only leaves room for the complaints and believe me many of the same posters repeat over and over the same issues to make certain it gets buried into our brains that their problems do exist.
The people having no problems should do the same thing until it gets buried into our heads that not every machine out their is defective.
If we conceal the good reports and only reveal the complaints then potential buyers will only get scared off. That's the main thing bad about MR is that the complainers don't like it when people report good experiences. They fear that their complaints will get overshadowed. Live with it.

Amen. Some people only want to bitch about problems when the MAJORITY of MBA owners do not have the problem. My machine, like most, has no issues (x10).

Oh, glad you are one of those nice people who never complain a problem that arises on you. Laughing at people with problem, because you got lucky sounds mature. This thread is for those who are having problem and discussing to have the situation any better, and what are you doing? (If I had to point it out... and oops, wasn't supposed to post these...)

As somebody who is still on the fence about buying a Macbook Air, I can say that this thread has made me hesitate on the purchase until the problem actually gets resolved.

You posted that others should not post if they do not have an issue, yet others have asked if there are any rev 2 MBAs without the problem. For example, this post from the "Thread Starter"

Just received a call from an engineer at Apple headquarters... Does anyone's Air NOT have this problem?

No one is laughing at others with issues, just pointing out that your request was silly and not on topic. A little advice for a first day member, it's always a good idea to think first before you post.

Please note: less than 50 % is a MINORITY

If you fool around, make sure you´ve done your homework....

Of the thousands of MBA-rev2's that were sold, a small handful have reported a problem. That my friend, is a minority.

i'm probably going to get flamed for this. But, maybe the problem is with your eyes and not the macbook air screen? :p

And you think every Air owner knows this thread? or willing to report same problem again? And sure it's a minority problem when some people said they saw that in the Apple Store...

zero, did you look at the screenshot? Some people say, they compared it side by side against first gen air.

Just went to a mac store in Sherman Oaks CA. BOTH the Rev A 1.6 and 1.86 Rev B that were on display had the infamous "lines" (and yes, I checked the configs).

They looked really bad IMHO. I went back and forth several times between the two Airs and the MB and MBP. The whites on the MBA's had a horizontal lines with a slight diagonal angle to the them. I couldn't believe it. The "recycled" paper is a great description. The text was INCREDIBLY difficult to read... I think reading/writing is kinda important on a computer.

I can't believe I am saying this, but the MB screen looked way better (I originally hated that screen due to the viewing angle and bad blacks, but it is way better than the lined screen on the MBA). I don't want to lug the MBP around, so it looks like I am gonna throw down some cash and grab a MB.

This issue is more serious than I anticipated from these boards. Oh... and the 4 finger swipe worked...

yes i did look at the screen shot, many times actually.

What I meant about the "eyes" is in regards to those who are saying that their eyes hurt and they get headaches because that sounds more serious than just a computer screen.

the Rev. A has this problem now too? People used to say the macbook air had the best screen and they were referring to Rev A.

Then rev B. lines issue comes out and people report they see them now too on the rev A.

I wonder if indeed, the lines are also on the Rev. A or are people just seeing them now because they've been reported.

Usually people find this site and others like it because they have an issue, not because everything is perfect. Which is why these claims become exaggerated and lay readers think it must be on every machine. It is important for those of us who actually own the computer and happen upon a thread like this to respond that not every computer has these issues.

Then again, what do I know, I've only owned two MBAs. I'm not an expert like yourself and others who have never owned one.
