What a load of big animal with horns excrement.

Please post your real scientific findings ?
Excuse me?
PWM can very quickly cause migraines, vertigo, dizziness and puts an enormous strain on the brain and balancing systems. Just google it, or don't. I don't care.
If you persist, the symptoms become worse and worse. Combine that with a situation where you are driving / moving or otherwise under stress - just see what happens and tell me it's not dangerous.

And just what agenda do you have to disprove other people's sufferings?
Either way, be disrespectful and expect zero further response from me.

Oh yeah, and don't forget, not everybody is *just like you*.

Current rumours suggest there may be a new iPhone to replace the XR in March 2021 (the “SE Plus” for lack of a better name)

one of the purported test designs is one that crosses the new iPad Air 4 language (single front camera and Touch ID button) with the XR body l, using the same LCD tech as the XR and 11 sans notch, plus hole cutout

Hopefully this offers an alternative option for those who suffer from PWM. It’s not ideal, but LCD seems to be slim pickings across any flagship brand so at least Apple has some options for those who are affected.
Thanks for this info 👍
I’ll be watching what iPhones get released next year for certain, maybe iPads as well. I’d prefer Touch ID back along with Face ID, a choice for users and more secure if you opt to use both. Also curious if LED technology improves or the touted 120hz refresh rate has anything to do with the effects of PWM or eventually tech with no issues for sensitive people!

My eyes are changing, aging you know, hahaha, I guess we all will learn together... we might be the test group or the group who warns the rest of users about potential eye health issues.

BTW if you don’t have this eye/brain sensitivity to new phone screens... then good for you... maybe just move along vs heckling those who are affected... frankly the blog/forum wouldn’t exist on vapor ware. This a place to discuss it and possible solutions to those who are affected. Just like how you can’t see wind doesn’t negate its existence. 🤔

Well Notebookcheck has not released their findings yet, but a Russian website that does similar testing released theirs- and it sounds like the flicker frequency on the 12 is 240Hz, which I think is the same as the XS. They show that 50% brightness seems to have the least flicker (oddly). Open the site, and click to translate the page if using Google Chrome:

I am not sure now- I am concerned, but am thinking I still want to try the Mini- it is the perfect phone, and I really hope it will not bother my eyes.

Probably the mini-led will help you but hopefully in 2021 or 2022 it will be released.

So for people who had not yet bought a 12 or 12 Pro- and are considering the Mini or the Pro Max- have any of you changed your minds now that we are finding out that the PWM flicker frequency is not any better than last year? Those of you who are sensitive to PWM, anyway? Or are most of you going to give it a shot and return the device if it causes you any trouble?

This is gonna be subjective but I don’t have eyesore at all anymore on my 12 pro at any brightness levels. I never do 0% even on lcd’s but sub 50% not a problem

I’m really glad that’s the case because X was a strain

Wow, even I didn’t know pwm affected balance. One of the reasons my family got me the SE2020 was because I’d fallen down our winding front staircase twice after switching to the 11 Pro which does not bother my eyes nor give me headaches. I also would get a bit bad with my hand eye coordination and found myself dropping that expensive 11 Pro more than I usually drop anything.

Having those subtle balance problems, I was wondering if I have MS or something like that. I was about to get into investigating the possibility and then the pandemic hit and put everything on hold. The weird issues did go away with me switching to the SE, but the SE2020 causes something else entirely which is a shimmery white curtain effect in my peripheral vision. I have no idea what that’s about. Our LED lightbulbs aren’t doing me any favors, either.

I returned my 12 Pro. That display made my eyes water and the weight made my hand cramp. There’s apparently a bit of a display lottery because my new regular 12 has a much crisper display that’s easier to focus on. It’s similar to the display on my daughter’s 12 Pro which was also noticeably better than the one on my 12 Pro.

I can also use True Tone turned on. If I tried to use True Tone on my 12 Pro, the display looked murky and made me a bit dizzy.

My eyes aren’t completely adjusted to the new screen yet, but I’ll give it a week. I don’t have to send my 11 Pro away until I’m sure I can use this screen.

It’s fascinating how different our nervous systems are and what they react to. While I have all of these strange issues, I am the only person in my family who can use VR Goggles (at least the ones I’ve tried so far) for as long as I want to without getting dizzy or getting headaches. In fact, when I used to have a migraine I’d put my Samsung VR goggles on and play a few games. I’d immediately feel better. Go figure!

Sorry to hear you're having these problems.
From my research and experience it's become clear that when the eye and brain don't perceive the same input, the inner-ear balancing system gets confused...things can be fine again when the source of the problems goes away (in this case the PWM screen).
However, more seriously, my belief is that long term exposure causes permanent damage/confusion in this very fragile part of the body. Doctors don't really fully understand the rising cases of labrynthitis / vertigo / BPPV - they will often put it down to stress or just hope it goes away with drugs.

Nowadays the one belief I stick to is - if it Feels bad it IS bad. Get rid. No amount of fancy new shiny stuff is worth risking your comfort and health. Sure as eggs, the manufacturers couldn't give a toss unless they get sued or lose sales.

I'm posting my findings here too: So far, day 3 with the iPhone 12, and no issues like with the iPhone X. The only thing I did was turn off the True Tone because it's yellow AF, but other than that, no problems. I used to get a nasty headache between my eyes with the X, so far nothin with the 12. I will update you if this changes. Apple has a 14-day return policy which I intend to use if needed. Something is different with this one... let's hope for the best.

Hi guys. Juts got back from T-Mobile. Using a beautiful 10r currently. Skidded the x and xs because 5 minutes of use I could tell it was messing me up. So juts checked out the 12 and 12 mini. The mini is a perfect phone! Sadly it bothers me still. I went to about:blank site on it. Gives you a white screen and I can then use your other phone camera to see if it flickers. I found the flicker. Noticeable at full brightness but not at lower birightness. Still though it bothered me at all levels. It’s almost too sharp. Back to my easy on the eyes 10r. Let’s hope Apple is the first next year w a new pwm free screen or even a new lcd screen. I have a feeling a new form of lcd will make a comeback.

I don’t care what anyone says, a few years ago I got an X in my later 20s and my head started feeling off.

I visited a Neurologist, had MRIs, and was convinced something was terribly wrong.
After reading another thread about PWM I got rid of the X and returned to a iPhone without PWM...I’ve been feeling great for years without issue.

I’m 100% confined the PWM was causing issues (for me) and I’ve been great since switching.

I currently use an 11 and I really hope they remove PWM in the future!

Hello again, everyone. It’s a sad day today. It’s been one week that I’ve had my beautiful, black iPhone 12 and today I had to make the decision to return it to Apple. At first, I did not notice anything going on, but now, slowly but surely, my headaches have arrived and they are getting worse by the hour. I put the phone away for a day, and sure enough, I felt so much better. Less headaches, less dizziness. I don’t get eye strain or fatigue with OLED, but I do get a nasty, drilling pain between by eyebrows. It’s not horrible, and if I would pop a Tylenol it would probably go away, but... I DON’T WANT TO HAVE TO DRUG MYSELF WITH PAINKILLERS TO BE ABLE TO USE A FRIGGIN’ PHONE! Sorry for yelling. But it’s absolutely sad. I will buy an iPhone 11 (used an XR before), and hang on to it until the end of time. Or until Apple smartens up. Which may very well happen in the next two years or so, when more and more people go OLED and realize that they cannot handle the flickering. Let’s hope for the best. I’m sorry the news are disappointing, but it’s important to stay realistic. (Posted this on the original eye strain thread too).

It’s crazy how much people have probably spent on medical bills and never actually figure it out that it’s their phone. You can’t physically see pwm, so most people wouldn’t even think it was a thing at all.

Using the pro max and in very dizzy/ feels like motion sickness.

I had the 11 pro max and no issue

what could be the cause?

The easiest way of doing it is opening a web page with a lot of white, like this forum, on your new phone. Then use another phone (girlfriend’s, wife’s, friend’s, old phone... anything with slow motion video, really) and film that screen of your new phone in slow motion, until the (new) phone screen goes dark. You can now literally observe what makes you dizzy. Apple’s LCD screens don’t do that.

I’ve had every phone since the 5 and this has never happened.

will my eyes get used to it? Or always like this?
