Lol ok. :)

I use macrumors as a way to avoid homework and relax, I usually don’t put the same effort into it as an English class. I commend you for doing so though.

Something tells me you simply don’t like my opinion and are grasping at straws with your response. Keep loving the SE, it along with the 17’ pro and the 11’ Air are gone despite a small but passionate group of supporters. Apple is not afraid to tell people they need a different screen.

You have no way of knowing whether it was successful because of form factor or price. From talking to the few Apple store employees I've asked about it, most people bought it for their kids because of price. They even tried to talk me into one instead of an iPod Touch saying a lot of people bought them and just didn't put a SIM card in it.

Hardly proof of a great demand. Outside of this forum I've never even seen one. If people want them so bad why aren't they around?

This is niche sH*T. Geek stuff. Like me refusing to drive an automatic car. I don't think I'm wrong but I don't tell everyone else they're wrong. I have common sense enough to know manual tranmissions are a niche market.

This thread is seriously lacking in reality.
I don't tell anybody they're wrong, either. To reiterate, it's about options. I've recommended the SE to a few people, admittedly women, who were specifically looking for a smaller phone but weren't even aware that the SE was on par with the iPhone 6s when it comes to its internals. All of them are very happy with their choice and (being doctors etc.) could have very easily afforded the bigger phone which they would have reluctantly gotten otherwise. It's all just anecdotal evidence of course.

There's absolutely nothing more appealing / practical or useful about having a larger screen than 4 inches for a smartphone.

This is the perfect iphone and Apple just killed it.

Those are your opinions, and most people don't agree with you. The trend is definitely going toward larger screens on phones, not smaller ones.

Similar story in my family. My parents both love the SE. My dad specifically told me not to get him a bigger iPhone because he thinks they look ridiculous. He loves the ergonomically friendly look and feel of the phone, as do I.

Like you said, it's great to have an option like the SE. I'm not sure why people with larger iPhones are so incredibly insecure about the existence of a smaller iPhone. They can stick to bigger screens and let everyone else live happily ever after with smaller ones. Everybody wins.

Not sure why it's such a difficult concept to grasp. Some people prefer smaller phones for a variety of reasons. Deal with it. Just as we're not trying to convince anyone with an iPad-sized phone to downgrade to the SE, they also shouldn't try to desperately convince the SE crowd to upgrade to a larger phone.

In every thread on the iPhone SE, I see some troll argue his way to a bigger-is-better iPhone. Why?

Wish they'd stop calling it an i'Phone'.

The phone part is becoming increasingly irrelevant for a lot of people. I use the call function on the device a couple of times a week at best, and would rather not have to use it at all. It's noisy, not private, and the person on the other end of the line has to be available right at that very moment.

Quite old fashioned.

iDevice :D

Apple will probably do a limited edition run in future years just for nostalgia sake but it will not be like $500! Appler will be do it right with the whatever the top of the line technology components are at that time. That what I would do and charge the price of a flagship model too. Have a limited run of 20 million 4" and price it at $1,500. After it is gone; third party seller will probably charge $2,000+ for one afterwards. Components are shrinking down in size so 4-5 years from now; the 4" iPhone will be so easy to make too.

As I mentioned, IMO. In My Opinion.

To be honest I don’t care about whatever ‘trend’ or ‘most people’ want- I’m simply stating what is perfect for my needs.
Feel free to ignore my message if you are totally fine with large phones.

That makes perfect sense considering where you are from.

ps. I'd love to go visit your tribe but i'd probably wipe them out with the common cold virus or something
Having survived several seasons of working on farms amid, the quaint tribes on the dismal island you call home, sans telephone and without contracting any exotic virus, I reckon we would have a fighting chance of survival should you choose to grace us with your presence.

What good small android phones comparable in size to the SE? Sony Xperia compact line (they advertise “for those who want the best, not the largest) And for years has been considered a tiny android has a 4.6’ display and is as large as an iPhone 6/7/8.

No premium android manufacturer makes a good phone the size of the SE anymore. The iPhone 8 size is now what is considered “small”. You can always find 4’ screen Androids for $20-$100 at the grocery store, It’s not gonna be a good experience.

The iPhone SE was equivalent to the iPhone 6S. You kind find a decent android phone comparable to to the iPhone 6S.

I kind of figured people would be able to adjust to larger phones eventually. Have many of you tried for an extended period of time? It honestly didn’t take much getting used to on my end and I never have problems holding it or fitting them in my pants. I tried an SE sized phone the other day and it feels almost claustrophobic. Obviously it’s just what people are used to and I’m certainly not bashing anyone’s preference, I’m just more so surprised that you can’t adapt. Or is it you just prefer not to? The benefits are pretty tangible to me.

There are plenty of smaller Android phones.
Care to list them? The only one that comes close to the SE in size (it’s still larger) is made by Sony and it lacks the features and performance of the SE..
Never say never. We simply don't know where the market will be a few years from now.

Some technologies, despite being outdated, are still utilized years later when manufacturers realize they were practical and demanded by a significant amount of people.

Don't believe me? - Classic example: manual transmission in cars. It's ancient. Archaic, in the automotive industry. Automatic cars took over the world. But guess what? - The most prominent sports car manufacturers started offering cars with a manual transmission again! Porsche discontinued it on the GT3, only to bring it back due to demand. BMW discontinued it on the E60 M5, only to bring it back the next year in North America. An overwhelming amount of Porsche and BMW owners still buy automatics (SMG, DCT, etc.), but there are diehard manual transmission enthusiats who refuse to go that route. The demand is small, but it's still there. So they continue to offer manual transmission cars, despite the fact that all of the automatic cars are much faster. Nothing can replace clutch engagement and the fun factor that comes with it.

If enough people bitch and whine about Apple phones getting too big and sales are lost for that reason, why on earth wouldn't Apple update a smaller phone? - I am very confident that they will.

Take me, for example. I love the iPhone SE. I have three options:

1. Buy the latest smallest iPhone Xs at $1k. (which I haven't done and won't do)
2. Buy any of the older smaller models like the 7/8 (which I won't do)
3. Stick with my SE for another several years

So, if Apple doesn't release an updated SE-like phone, they will earn $0 from me in the next few years, until my SE craps out and they force me to upgrade to a larger phone. Had they released an updated SE-sized phone, I would be all over it and likely pay up to $800 for it, no joke.

You’re right about the GT3 though

Have had a 6 and on my 7 now almost near end of my contract. I still barely manage to reach the top edge.

Have a spare 5s that i use at niht to read or listen to music and browse the net while my 7 charge before i sleep

I still find the 5s more comfortable to use. I would buy a SE for a main phone but I use more then 128GB of storage on my 7. I will not be upgrading to a new iphone. First off no 4.7 inch model. I have tried the X but it is still bigger then the 7 overall. I will just keep the 7 until it dies.

You got it.

It’s amazing all the people who say that the SE is fine if you don’t play games, watch video, or browse the internet.

What do you think people do with their SE? o_Oo_O:p What did people do with their iPhone 5s when it was the flagship? Anyway, I do all those things, except gaming. I do it, but it’s not like I play any intense FPS games or anything. I played NBA 2K 2017-18 (last season), and it ran great on my SE. It would have looked better on a bigger screen, but it’s not something I really think about when I’m playing a game I like.

My previous phone had a 5.2” screen, and before that, a 5.0” screen. ;)

I know Tim Cook and the folks on the board of Apple know a heck of a lot more than I do about making money. But I still would hope the SE in some form would be made at some point.

I have an 8+ and I like the extra real estate when typing. But for a lot of other stuff that I do on the phone, the 5S/SE size would work just fine. Especially when travelling. And it's such a nicely designed phone too. No fugly antenna lines across the back like my iPhone 6 had.

And I would think it would be a nice entry level iPhone for even more folks to be hooked on iOS and the iPhone world.

But I can also see why they wouldn't. My guess is they want to move people away from Home Key/TouchID. No more iPhones will likely be made with that sort of case any longer. So they would have to make a smaller case size to house their current move to FaceID. And that would probably take a lot of $$ in research/development for a phone that wouldn't have a big profit margin. Too bad, since I still think there is a place for a smaller sized phone in the marketplace.

The reality is, it's 2018. Like BlackBerry fans, it's time to just move on and accept it .

I think it's harder to move on because for a lot of people that have been Apple fans for a long time and didn't come to the company in recent years, they feel a little betrayed. This isn't the Apple "they used to know." There's even that video from the 2012(I think) keynote where Phil Schiller says something about "it can be used with a horizontally opposed thumb that everyone has." These new phones definitely threw all of that out. My wife uses a 6S, and I don't like using her phone one bit. Every time that I borrow it, I feel like I'm going to drop it. I have to shift the phone around in my hand in order to utilize it. I know there's that accessibility thing, but it's tedious to keep double tapping the home button.

I bought an iPhone SE last week. I'll use that for the next 2-3 years, and if there isn't anything else made in the future, oh well. I'll be on something even more basic.

One of the biggest issues I can see is it would require a X style redesign at this point which doesn’t come cheap - it would be difficult to recoup those costs on a lower volume, lower margin device. I don’t think Apple will be wanting to introduce more home button based devices from now, the direction of travel is gestures and faceID.

This one?

I wasn't talking about that. It was Phil Schiller at a keynote pretty much saying the same thing though.

But yeah.... that commercial is beautiful. You can't make that commercial with any of these new phones.

I laugh every time I see the new "welcome to the big screens" commercials. It'll be time for me to say goodbye to Apple when this SE dies.

I'm typing this message on a 2011 Macbook Pro. I probably won't buy another Apple computer when this one dies. We had a good run from 2006 when I was teenager in high school with my first Macbook. I remember bringing that thing to school and people looking at me like I was cool.

I see this on every SE thread. The phablet fan boys just can't restrain themselves from telling those of us who PREFER THE SE FORM FACTOR...YOU better like the phablet...OR ELSE!!! Sneering, almost derogatory smugness. Sales suck...nobody wants a small phone any more...you Luddite...blah blah blah.

This may be hard for you phablet smugsters to understand. But not everybody wants a phablet sized phone. Pssst...and some of us even want a headphone jack and home button. Is that so hard to understand? I'm glad you guys got what YOU wanted. Some of us did not.

Just bought a SE and am loving it. Classic retro form factor. Compared to my 4S it is HUGE and FAST!!!
