So I have the opportunity to return my iPhone SE and get the LG G6 but only one day left. My carrier is selling the LG for $150. What do you say? Worth it?

It depends on what you primarily want to do with your phone.

If you mainly call and message then stick with the SE.

I’ve been itching to switch to Android. Plus, I do work email and would like to play games.

The SE is a low end phone. For $150 the LG is a steal. I dont know, iOS is OK but imo it just dont measure up to Android anymore. Everytime i think i might want to try an iPhone i get reminded just by looking at the big icons on the screen how i cant do anything with it to make it look my way.

Been switching bot platforms regulary. Had the samsung s8 which i loved, changed it with an iphone 8 which i changed with an pixel 2. Started to notice my eyes watering and hurting alot with the pixel 2 so thought about the times ive used the galaxy phones (s6-s7-s8) and came to the conclusion that amoled panels are not for me. So switched back to an iphone 8 and love it,the size is perfect.

I do miss alot of features of android tho,but cant keep hurting my eyes.

Been considering giving android a try for the past couple of years. Pixel and note intrigue me. However, now that my wife is sold on iPhones it makes the switch more difficult. iMessage, shared calendars, photo albums, and apps etc.. can’t justify having both for myself. I am happy with the iPhone X it’s just the boredom with iOS I think..

Yeah that is the only issue.

Siri does suck a lot of the time. But you can get Google Assistant on iOS. You can go in deep into your account and see and delete and monitor most of the information that Google collects. Even recordings of your voice that are made when you ask Google a question verbally. It’s actually not hard to lock it out of your business and I can’t say I’ve ever been troubled by targeted ads since I learned to dig into my account.

Very interesting how is this done?

When GDPR is finally completed and implemented for the USA with presenting you the user to request full user data purge and ability to download and sell yourself to another company? Hmm. I’ve been volleying for this almost for 10yrs I’m these boards.

I'm looking to switch back to Android once I need to move on from my current iPhone SE. The challenge for me is that I have become accustomed to having the flexibility of starting a task on my phone and continuing it on the iPad. That will become more restrictive if I have an Android smartphone and iOS tablet. Android tablets are virtually non-existent these days. That in and of itself isn't a direct issue since I have a terrific one, Lenovo Yoga Book. But indirectly it is an issue since developers aren't really developing quality apps for the platform anymore.

So it'll be interesting to see what happens.

There are tons of good third party to do/task management apps across both platforms, including Google’s own new Tasks.

I have no problem going back and forth using Microsoft Office products between my Surface Pro and Note 8. I'm using the Microsoft Launcher which helps facilitate this a bit. Most of the time on my phone I'm just viewing stuff, except in OneNote which I do edit on both sides... and the pen working in both is awesome.

Picked up a similar computer. What has your experience been with it?

2-3 months with Galaxy S9+ and I love it, but I'm really missing iMessage and AirDrop. Sigh, the grass is always greener.

Never used iMessage when I had the iPhone. Guess it is good for sending videos. AirDrop was very cool between my phone & pad. After that the novelty fell off.

You’re forgetting this is ONLY mandatory in the EU for now, there is nothing forcing or punishing companies in North/South America or outside of the EU to not enable this.

I don’t see anything from Google making this effort yet I’m still reviewing I/O 2018 keynote. Being halfway there, Google is making Apple look like Blackberry did when talking about security when they failed to truly innovate and adapt to create end user solutions along with their core business following.

Right now Apple Watch, familiarity with iOS and iPhone 7/X design is keeping me with Apple. Yet I don’t feel very efficient in navigating web for answers, searching for travel routes and times and managing my day.

It isn’t a bad phone. Especially at that price. It got a bad rap as they really released it too early. Probably should have held on to it and worked out a few bugs first. If you’re used to iOS, though, it might be a tough transition. I’m having that issue right now. I have an angel on one shoulder telling me to go to Android and a devil on the other telling me to stay with Apple!

Every year or 8mths I have that then I force a switch and end up going berserk coming back to iOS.

Android P, PH-1 phone is really appealing in a lot of real useful ways. What’s missing is real research and a compelling watch design and feature set and the research and apps (quality in effective and UI design) to compete with Watch S3. Also direct on device music creation seems to not jive with the google geeks.

That’s essential home looked promising and it’s a full year of it being announced and nothing about a working product or launch date. It’s almost dead before production occurred. I hope Andy Rubin gets a better crew at Essential cause not even Danger Inc sucked this bad with delivering products and services they announced.

PS: years ago on these boards I mentioned Google will end up exactly like the concept of the originals brainiac in the superman commercials ... and that realistic Google Assistant making dynamic calls for bookings in a users behalf is FRAKn scary!! Like it’s happening! Death by cool!

Apple needs to ditch Siri and license Google Assistant or get something new!

PS: if I get Philips Hue for Siri and choose to fully switch to Essential will the Hue work with Google Assistant or do I have to buy a new kit!!

You can use google assistant with hue yes

Also not like you can’t use google assistant on iPhone and iPad either. Both work well on there

I know Google Assistant works on Hue. What I was asking/meant is the packaging individually states "Siri" or "Google Assistant" not both - not sure if it's a gen 1 vs gen 2 on the product of the hub/starter kit.

just weighing my options for first week of July. Also 2 of my pals use Android so would be cool if they have some lighting setups

Haven't wanted to return to iOS since I ordered my first Android phone (Alcatel iDol 4S. I'll never buy another TCL phone, tho, as the only upgrade I got after 2 years was a file manager nobody asked for. LG is as terrible with updates, but that's a whole nother can of worms).

Being able to customize every little aspect of my phone versus only being to put apps in folders?

Also, there are so many different ways to experience Android. If I want a stock experience... Pixel. If I want features galore... Galaxy. If I want a phone that will never get updates... LG or TCL.

Well my google mini arrives monday so will put it to the test. I see no reason why it won't work with both at the same time.

I love my google home and mini. I have it set up to control my lights, thermostats, and TV. I really suggest getting a smart plug or socket instead of smart lightbulbs. Then you can use your own lightbulbs and have the flexibility to work with other devices.

I don't have a hub. Right now google homes acts as my hub and assistant.
